As a 40k fan of over 25 years, what I love most about SM2 is that it is incredibly faithfull to the lore in its design and references. The best thing about it is that organisations, characters, and events are mentioned the way in-universe characters would be expected to, without going out of their way to explain all of them to newcomers, which would get awkward fast. While this could've ended up to be a hindrance, I found the opposite is the case: I've seen so many gaming streamers who know nothing anout 40k getting more and more intrigued by things they want to understand and learn more about. I think this will be one of the biggest, long-lasting strengths of the game in the future.
Yes, as long as Gee-Dubs stays true to the Grim-Dark nature of 40k, it will thrive. But if they continue to shave off the rough edges, IMHO, 40k will loose it's edge and become less desirable as a universe. The USP of 40k is that it is very dark and kind of a hopeless setting, where people either survive through being that gear in the machine, fanaticism, natural freak of nature or mechanical adaptation. Pshychers, well they don't last that long typically don't they.
Beat saber is a fantastic game to be weirdly good at. Also to your last segment: as a collector of 40k since 3rd or 4th edition, I like the idea of new people coming into the hobby and seeing it become as popular as I wish it was when I was a kid. For me, the problem with the hobby’s size comes from the fact that many businesses deteriorate the product as it gets bigger be nauseating they feel they have to appeal to more and more people, which on one hand they do in order to bring in new people. The evolutions of the game and the miniatures can be incredible and as much as I might not like certain armies or games, or particular models, I always enjoy seeing new sculpts. The company’s attitude also comes into question when their mindset is to focus on bringing in new people so they can forget about and not cater to those that are already in. If someone is in the hobby and they like building, playing, and gaming, then they’ll keep themselves engaged. 8th edition was a mass reset because 7th got out of control with rules bloat and power creep. 9th edition got to the same point in a matter of 6 years as opposed to what, 12 years? 15? Again, my issue with popularity is that while its a good thing overall, the thing that is popular changes too much and loses the charm. Business views changes as ownership changes hands and people who have never really engaged with the hobby in the same way as a collector like myself, starts to run the good thing into the ground. Great video! I LOVE more people coming into the hobby, my only worry is; as it becomes more popular , that it may become less grimdark. That being said, things like the Mordheim community, and Blanchitsu style of painting are more popular than ever, so its not like those things can be taken away from people... NO ONE WILL STOP MY RIDICULOUS OVERUSE OF STREAKING GRIME!!
I've had to say this on a few comments saying the same thing so maybe I should have put it in the video but I agree! I don't want them to 'tone down' Warhammer or it's over the top grimdarkness! I think that's what MAKES it so cool and attractive in the first place!
@@roguehobbies you're a standard bearer for the hobby so if anyone can't tell that you enjoy the hobby, that would be a bit silly. Waiting with bated breath to see Inquisitor Cavill on screen 😬
My biggest complaint about SM2 is in the Chaos side of multiplayer. The classes all seem to be Legion locked (Bulwark is Death Guard, Raptor is Night Lord, etc). You can change your colors, but you're stuck with the same armor design. I'd like to be able to pick parts from different Legions and mash them together. Loyalist Marines have little to no Chapter lock. I would also like it if the leveling system was not separated between Eternal War and Operations. Operations mode is Horrendously fun, but doesn't pay out enough in-game currency per mission, imo. Hoping they do add more missions and can't wait for Horde mode. That said, I was having so much fun with the Campaign that I ended up streaming for 8.5hrs straight and played through the whole campaign in that time. The final pay off was more than worth it, and the certain Chaplain reveal at the end just made way too much sense.
I bought this game earlier tonight. Super excited to see this pop up while the game is downloading. Fantastic video! Great job showing what the game is about and your enthusiasm has me excited to play in the morning! Feels like looking forward to Saturday morning cartoons 🥳
I struggled with combat at first but once I slowed down and started weaving in dodges it started feeling really satisfying. I think they nailed the easy to learn hard to master philosophy of the combat system.
Within A single week of being a Warhammer fan I have already created a homebrew space marine chapter called the Moon Angels Successor to the Dark Angels. My hot take on the popularity thing. WH is really a hobby of 3 parts. The modelling, the game and the Written lore. Some people like 1 of them, some 2 and some all parts. All is great. But what if there is now a 4th way? Computer gaming? We really have it already with WH Total War, we just havent had the big 40k hit to open that side of it up. Those that enjoy SM2 might not want to get into the other parts as mentioned, maybe they will wait for the next 40k video game. Or maybe they will read the HH series and go.the reading side? There is plenty of 40K to go around, whilst its a big thing in the tabletop world, 40K/WH isnt a big thing in the wider world, so having new people coming in via SM2 is not going ruin the fun of anyone already in the hobby, its just not.

Walking through the Astropathic Choir chamber was a real jaw drop moment for me & then again in Operation Mission 6 with all the servitors pulling the Nova Cannon shell along - masterfully Grim Dark.
I am kind of loving the public reaction to this game. I have friends that sorta knew about 40k and knew it was one of my favorite settings, now I get bombarded with all sorts of questions about lore, the table top, other 40k media etc, and it's honestly kinda cool. I genuinely feel much more at ease showing my army to people knowing that they at least will recognize my guys immediately as Space Marines.
A great video and despite your early warnings that this isn't a 'proper' review video, for myself and I imagine many other casual gamers this is exactly what a review should be; the info I need to decide whether I'm going to have fun with this and enjoy the sights even if I don't devote my life to button smashing and can't play it for hours and hours to 'git gud'.

Yo, I just wanted to say your videos are always a highlight of my day. Absolutely delightful. I was told I don't "understand" Warhammer Lore, Because I painted my multiplayer guy too look War Eaters and "they're the Bad Guys" But I am like "They're ALL the Bad Guys" lol you just pick a pretty armor you like and roll with it. I dunno maybe I don't understand, I just think Butcher's Nails look cool and I am a simple beach. Giggle. Thank you for all the videos, you have an excellent day.
Not going to lie, I teared up a bit when I finished my Salamander Tac marine with the Melta Rifle. Once I saw him covered in Tyranid gore with his chain sword and bolt pistol, I was hooked lol. Love the IP
I think it's the best 40k theme park ride you can go on. The campaign is a blast, and so are the other multiplayer modes. The PvE mode could use some tuning on the weapons (some just feel very weak compared to others and some perks are a little boring or uninteresting), but is still fun especially with friends. A great, classic style game!
I still remember many years ago, going to the local comic/hobby shop seeing ppl in the back having battles with their armies. I admit, I didn't get it. It was the 90s so I was there to get my image comics and the occasional magic pack. Thanks to youtube and it's massive uptick of popularity, I see the world is so interesting and rich (and of course wildly badass).. and those guys were really on to something awesome.
Honestly I found your channel because of the cool rainbow warrior video you did, and didnt know what warhammer was. Literally came for the cool looking armor, stayed for the vibes and interesting universe lol.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing the campaign and eager to get into the operations mode by going assault with thunder hammer in blood angels colours. The game has got me through a rough patch that happened recently. Can't wait to see more content :-) stay awesome
I played the first Space Marine when it originally came out. I think it's safe to say that the 10 years or so between that first game and Space Marine 2 being announced has allowed Sabre Interactive and Focus Entertainment to make the kind of 40K game many have been wanting for years. They've taken the first game as a foundation and built something seriously impressive. I'm playing on a PS5 and it looks amazing, especially the lighting. The level of detail put into the world building and environments is really quite something. Photo mode is excellent. I think my only real criticism would be at times it seems really clear it's designed to be a multiplayer game, you can't give orders to your squad mates so playing the campaign single player means relying on the AI which often means Chairon and Gadriel are either stood around awkwardly or running full pelt into the nearest horde of enemies like Bulveye the Berserker.
I did not know about photo mode ... looks nice. Actually I love the campaign over Darktide because you habe time to look around and enjoy the atmosphere.
My goodness. You are just GUSHING. I love it. Keep it up and keep having Warhammer fun! I can attest painting miniachoorz is the best and thuis game is "chef's kiss". Happy my Space Shark bois are represented. Rawr.
My favorite “Warhammer Media Thing” is the Rogue Trader CRPG by Owlcat. I lack the coordination to play shooters due to a nerve disorder so I have learned to love tactics-type and CRPGs. This looks really cool, but unless they make a super easy mode, I don’t think I’ll be able to play it.
I've lurked at the fringes of warhammer for a while now, wandering through the black library. but this game is the one that finally pushed me into buying some plastic, and now I am enjoying painting my first minis starting with tyrranids of hive fleet hydra :)
Looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for posting this and going on over the more "fringe" features that bend more towards the artistic and personal expression. I think I'm the opposite of the "first contact" SMII player - longtime WH40K fan/painter and only an occasional gamer (and very much lapsed - last things I played frantically were Starcraft and Warcraft). Well done to GW and developing team to make such an appealing representation of this amazing universe. This is getting downloaded... Last game I downloaded on Steam for myself and played was, I think... Grim Fandango. And yes, probably I'm going to mega-suck, too.
I have good friends who used to make fun (not in a mean way) of our warhammer hobby back in school / uni now sinking deep into the warhammer lore and world, with more hours spent on warhammer video games then I have spent in game stores… They may still never paint, buy, or play tabletop, but frankly warhammer has transcended mere tabletop. I bet if I did a quick and dirty paintjob of a friend’s darktide character as a gift, they would be ecstatic.

“Fridge full of bricks with a gun” is my absolute favourite. Totally stealing that…
Great video and awesome photos from camera mode... I have the same problem, taking photos non stop!!
I like listening to you while painting. It helps me practise my english (because you speak clearly and not too fast). And I like th topics you talk about.
Actually, thanks to you, I have put the game in my steam wich list, waiting for a future promo.
"Can't complain. But I suck." Same sis hahaha
It is a really tough game! I'm not bad on games and boy does Titus have to replay those missions many times 😂
Within A single week of being a Warhammer fan I have already created a homebrew space marine chapter called the Moon Angels
Successor to the Dark Angels.
They basically have this Planet they have made their home world and they protect it through converting the moon into a Giant Shield generation for the planet with rail guns on top.
That’s super rad. What’s your color scheme?
@@biggerthanjapan Its a darkish Turquoise on White, I have the scheme in a WIP Doc
if you wanna take a look

Sick.
The vehemence with which she mentions Leandros. That was amazing!!
Loved this...all of it...but that motivational skit about being cool now....*chefs kiss* 🤣🤣🤣
Hehehe it was my favourite bit to make too
My hot take on the popularity thing.
There is plenty of 40K to go around, whilst its a big thing in the tabletop world, 40K/WH isnt a big thing in the wider world, so having new people coming in via SM2 is not going ruin the fun of anyone already in the hobby, its just not.
the game has added soo much detail and flavor to that boring intercessor and phobos armor! and the painting system and colors are so much fun to use
My only gripe; I can't paint my hands separately to make a proper crimson fist
Love the video. Your enthusiasm is contagious…I want to play this game now. Keep on making great videos…and awesome Goblins!
This game has been a f**king blast! As someone new to Warhammer, it is an amazing jumping off point for new people. Having a blast! FOR THE EMPEROR
Yes! We want more people on board! (Public service announcement: you don't have to play tabletop to enjoy the hobby or setting).
Welcome, battle brother
But why no Capt. Titus led combat patrol? Would have been a good tie-in product.
You do sometimes have to wonder about GW's marking, or lack thereof
all i need to say is well said, i love warhammer since 2012 when i got my first tase of it back then and for space marine 2 to be way for more ppl to get into and love it like i do is amazing, this video defo made me smile thank you so much :)
Aw I'm glad you liked it 😊
The you were right section is 👌
Perfect, no notes.
Been playing this game since it released! Great stuff
Your ingame photo's are awesome!
Aw thanks I'm proud of em too 😊
@@roguehobbies I saw a few that would make excellent wallpapers; thought about posting them on Insta, Twitter, Deviantart, etc.?
I would love to see you to paint some model in the livery of this new custom chapter of yours!
Gotta love how you call the huge angry dude with a shield and armor "Baby Boy". Thats adorable. :D
Just picked it up on Friday and loving everything about it. The amount of detail they've managed to pack in is absolutely incredible.
dude, you're such a wholesome lil goblin showing the healthy side of the fandom, making long time lurker appreciators from afar so much more comfortable
Yo, I just wanted to say your videos are always a highlight of my day. Absolutely delightful.
I was told I don't "understand" Warhammer Lore, Because I painted my multiplayer guy too look War Eaters and "they're the Bad Guys"
But I am like "They're ALL the Bad Guys" lol you just pick a pretty armor you like and roll with it.
You are such a fun person. Love every video. :)
Rawr.
I love the game and could see myself playing it for years to come if they continue to add new operation missions and new modes
Love the custom marine, fits my family colours! (Swift) Which I've been making a knight house around, the power symbol even resembles a stylized S!
Epic and goblin green in the background.
That’s a fan.
For the emperor!
Great analysis, and nice to see someone focus on the aesthetics
And yes, probably I'm going to mega-suck, too.
you're a gem louise!
No YOU'RE a gem ♥️
The Art team knocked this game out of the park, the world is the best representation of the 40K universe in high definition i have ever seen.
"Fridge full of bricks with a gun" - such poetic description :D
Excellent video!! Looks like I need this game! I miss Bolt Thrower (the band) so much! Memoriam is great but not quite up to the same level.
The 'Painbow Warriors', surely?
"Ooh game go pew pew pew" [SUDDEN PHILOSOPHY!]. - Love it Rogue.
The names of Bolt Throwers songs are so fitting for the Warhammer 40k 😄 Guts and Glory, Those Once Loyal, When Cannons Fade…
Gaming led me to this hobby, thanks for welcoming me and others like me
I'd love so much to see a Librarian, Techmarine, and Apothecary. Also, just more weapon options.
I bet if I did a quick and dirty paintjob of a friend’s darktide character as a gift, they would be ecstatic.
cool melody at the end!
Thank you I made it myself😁
@@roguehobbies That outro tune was sweet! Made me look for what it could be in the description
