Game was a lot harder and scarier to play when the shadow's are bugged to the point you could walk in on satan naked and make the mistake of complimenting him on how nice his loincloth is. Then having to squint your eye's and leaning in a little before you can see the actual horrors in front of you

Amazing job on completing the game without using the hud. :) How did you pull off certain sections like the Minecarts or the freezer rooms? Also, I enjoyed the points about nostalgia, but I'm about 4 years too young to relate to RE4 in particular - I'm a Nintendo kid.
Honestly as someone who never really knew about the original (no spoilers was cool), I really enjoyed RE4:R, it's also kinda cool just being around the whole hype cycle (i.e. the demo, reviews, Bingo memes etc.) and it actually paying off. I really liked your point about the different kind of heroes in video game media - everyone loves Leon and I think you succinctly explained why, its more of a man vs challenge (nature) and less of man vs himself. Part of that hype cycle too is just getting a super polished AAA game (compared to buggy/live service titles) and enjoying it alongside everyone else - just little things like the shooting mini game were really well put together.
On your final point near the end of the vid, there's been a fair amount of discussion about the whole "IP-ification" of huge game releases. You've got live services (Sony pushing for them), and big-budget remakes with reliable IP's behind them, and then in the other corner are your wholly original games or Indie/double A titles. Seems we're reaching a point where original games are too much of a risk (i.e. Forspoken, Callisto Protocol), and even highly praised games like Hi-Fi Rush aren't making enough money compared to the others. So it looks like big-budget remakes / games with big studios (Fromsoft) or IPs behind them will be the norm going forward. I didn't really think about how Resident Evil games were kinda apart of that, but now especially with FFXVI I do kinda see that.
Overall a great watch. Good work on covering the game and interjecting thoughts, tangents and interesting discussion in a well edited, well paced and not too long essay-format. Your Jerk's Guides are really getting that unique identity of being part review/summary, part essay discussion and part comedy video. And you do such a great job with analysing the Zeitgeist around a game (for RE4 both the past and future) - because deep down games will forever being linked with when, where and how they came out. That's a unique perspective that not a lot of TH-camrs discuss and something that really makes your videos special. Keep up the great vids, they are worthy of aspiration and I'm sure they will only continue to improve!

We are at a point where remakes have to be remade. The RE1 remake is the same age as RE4.

(26:43) Ok yea BUT and hear me out on this "HALO" the live action show, "The Witcher" (Season 3), and Even the Netflix Adaptations of "resident Evil" and Cowboy Beebop were all shows where the Directors or writers Even came out to admit they WANTED to just use the name and make their own stories (EX. Halo, resident evil). they also stated they did not like the original stories (Ex. Halo, Witcher) while trying to bait the fans into watching it despite claiming in some instances prior how they would stick to source material (Cowboy Beebop, Halo, Witcher( seasons 1-2 w/ cavil)).
I am not one of the people who even cared about these shows just heard all the news about them and did my own analysis. My point being I wouldnt say its silly when youre "promised" things will be one way, you finally get to see your favorite game come to life and get Introduced to more people. you Pay for the subscription service it airs EXCLUSIVELY on only for the showrunners to say Fuck you this is the story I WANT to tell and if you dont like it dont watch it. these schemes often misrepresenting the franchise and its fans whilst they are in some ways justifiably upset.
then the show gets cancelled. not all instances but im sure you can understand. (not promoting any "harassment" (whatever that means in todays age) or anything like that)
For years i wondered were this fish fight was with the guy in a tiny boat. Glade after years later I found out this was Resident Evil 4. It was scary when I was watching my uncle's girlfriend fight it. It looked super difficult.

That game was so good.
Without a doubt I can say that I don't want remakes of every game I grew up playing. There is a certain fondness for seeing the old school graphics on games like The Force Unleashed that take me back. If anything, this remake just shows that RE4 was a great game from the conceptual level up as they made it in two separate eras and both times it ended up being a very well praised game. I enjoy remakes as a complementary piece to be like a way to experience the sensations that I felt in my early years but I 100% side with that not every beloved game needs a remake.

Will I watch Rowby's video? Yes

Unfortunately Resident Evil 4 remake cannot capture my birthday in 2005 where I got Resident Evil 4 soon after the release date on top of the GameCube I was devastated I didn't get for Christmas so I could get Resident Evil 4 for my birthday.
Honestly, 10/10 birthday, I got Resident Evil 4, Timesplitters 2 and 007 Nightfire along with a GameCube and there's not been a better collection of games since then for me.

Also to add, seems everyone but me hated Ada's voice actress in this. I had no issues with her voice actress. I blame her producer cause she plays Ada in the Welcome To Raccoon City movie and she was fine in that credits scene. People also hating on Krauser and Wesker's new voice. I loved both. Krauser actually sounds like Leon's Major in this remake and Wesker sounds better for not being the over the top hammy he was in 5.
Krauser wasn't leons major in the original. I like this version more, but there are some holes there and there. How did he find out about the cult?

The stagger changes were the dumbest thing in the remake and caused me to put the game down. The original will always be better just for the consistency in its gameplay alone. Nothing better than not knowing if I’m going to still get hit despite putting two bullets into a common villager enemy’s head.

Except, she didn't really. Technically, her voice acting was very bad.

Videos?! When I was a ten year old all I had was endlessly rereading the Nintendo Power issues that had details on RE4. 🥹
