  • Having recently sold my gen 3, BMW 1000rr , which I liked but wasn't using , my plan was to replace it with a Sports or Hyper naked . I tried 3 bikes and opted for the the new M1000R.
    This video details some of the specifications and technology, comments on my view of the looks and finish , takes you on a gentle GoPro ride, before concluding with my "first impressions" . I hope you enjoy the video !

      How fast road bikes ( and cars) can be has been a debate that has raged since the invention of the engine . Like you , I am not sure where the line is , but great that they continue to push the boundaries , even if it needs a track to enjoy it ?

    685 miles so far, if anyone missed it. The Donington experience may prove that its not necessarily an absence of rider skill, rather than a subconscious reliance on tech which is suddenly removed.

    • @michaelmam
      @michaelmam  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment . I suspect there is something in the sudden removal of technology but I am happy to share experiences where I am the butt of the joke . I am an average rider but do enjoy a few track days every year now and gradually getting a bit more comfortable with it . Really enjoying the M . 👍

    I actually like the looks of it, great video, as always very well presented. Though, I'm unsure about driving such powerful motorbikes on the road. I ride around on a 30bhp CB300r that does 0 to 100kph in 7 seconds which isn't exactly fast, but 90 percent faster than your average general traffic, anything faster than the legal limits, puts you in massive risk with the law if you're caught, So when I see and admire such amazing machines like this, It's just a huge waste of resources in the real world. Don't get me wrong, If it's for the track, then it's well worth the money, but anything to do with commuting or going to the pub, I simply can't justify it. On the roads, anything over 20bhp that can do 110kph consistently, has to be said is simply for pure ego / self indulgence and your own enjoyment which is fair I guess, but if I can't use all that power ( on high powered bikes ) when ever I want, what is the point.
    This is why small CC singles end up being the most fun bikes to ride, but not very impressive to others, but who cares.

  • @pbofan
    @pbofan 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I know the M has it, but I wonder if the standard S1000R will ever adopt the ShiftCam technology. I have a R1250R, and along with the monstrous twin torque, its ShiftCam sustains power and torque all across the power band. I *love* the look of the S1000R, but the weaker low-end and lower mid-range power delivery - where most of us ride 90% of the time - of the 4-cyl. keeps me away. A S1000R with ShiftCam (and without the M1000R pricetag) would be irresistible.

    • @michaelmam
      @michaelmam  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good to hear from you . Manufacturers do tend to cascade technology down the range as new technology emerges but whether they do this for the S1000R remains to be seen . I was actually surprised , but delighted when they put the MRR tech on an upright bike . Just what I was looking for to replace my RR ..👍

    Had a test ride on one of these from Cotswold Motorrad. Did 10 mins along the dual carriageway to Ciren at 70mph, and the vibration was so bad it made my hands go numb! Seems strange as I know S1000RR owners who say their engines are very smooth. How do you find it?

    • @michaelmam
      @michaelmam  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Bikes are very personal . What one person likes , another dislikes and the speed and way people ride varies significantly ..
      What many do is make a list of bikes that they think they might like , within their price range , and research them often starting on TH-cam . Narrow it down to two or three and then go to see them in dealers .
      I narrowed my search to a Ducati StreetFighter , Aprilia Factory Tuono and M1000R , test rode them all , and bought the M. Both the other bikes were great bikes but didn’t suit me .

  • @theonlyredspecial

    Fabulous bike. Love my competition version. Had a full Akra fitted and a Brent tune and sprint race filter fitted. The remap gave 40 more horse power in mid range and it put out 202 hp at back tyre. Really comfortable too. Love it.
    Ratios are different 46 not 47, makes it accelerate harder. Peaks at 176mph rather than 187. You could alter them to rr spec easy enough but anything over 120 and a naked bike is hard work so bmw decision makes sense to me.
    Also if you think that bike is tall don’t try the m1000rr. I’m 6ft 2 and I’m on the top half of my foot standing with it.

    If its anything like what I have owned within this brand then if new no problems but just try owning an older model of any B.M.W. and good luck with that one .Over priced Over rated bits of C...p !! I know I am going to get a slating for saying so but after 50 years of riding I honestly think this company needs to sort itself out re customer service for older machines !! To my eye it looks a mess. A bit like multicolour camouflage trying to find a tricolour flag to hide in front of. The truth is that it hides the style, which is actually very dated. It reminds me of an early, partially defrocked Fireblade in some ways.
    I didn't understand your comment about the Ducati at town speeds. Mine is more than happy to tootle without complaint, and then respond with throttle when asked, and it does so without the uninspiring, ubiquitous 4 in line drone. The M1000r is clearly a great bike, dynamically and functionally, as most big bikes are these days, but to be honest, for me it is lacking in the, what is often called, soul department, which makes me want to buy this type of machine. I do have 2 BMW as well, in case you think I am a BMW hater. Happy riding.
