    Thank you for the love my man!!
    I don’t have any personally recently subbed books, but I’m definitely looking forward to playing with some recently slabbed ones, to see what I might notice/encounter.
    The interesting thing about the smoother rectangular welds, is that I began noticing them a little while ago (maybe even before the scandal broke). But I have to look into that. I don’t remember the exact date that the first one came across my desk.
    I’m going to take a look at some of my books this evening to see if I still have them. They may have been sold already. But I want to compare grade dates.
    This can definitely be a part of the update, but I think there may be other stuff. Looking forward to hearing what else you notice as well!
    Thanks again! Great video!

    Thanks for this update! I have recently cracked some books that were recently graded and I found them to be a lot harder to get the case cracked - especially the first separation. I did not identify that there was a change in the case but I did notice that on some recent removals of books the cases fit together a lot more snuggly on the bottom edge making it hard to get a thin screwdriver between the top & bottom sections. I thought I was just losing my touch. Additionally, that weld does not want to separate and the case sometimes actually cracks into the front or back before the weld breaks which makes it a lot harder to open.

    Odd they don't sonically seal more than one side.

    The only way that can help prevent reholdering is if the seal is now so weak that it cracks when you heat it up. Strengthening that seal does nothing to stop reholdering.

    This is the sort of thing they should have provided when they started, instead of 24 years of failure later.

    I think the weld is more uniform, also if it's matte finish it might be harder to fix without looking tampered with? or maybe the person was able to pull the book out without breaking the original thick weld, the new weld being flat maybe it's thinner, and will snap if you try that? or leave a bend mark? the sloppy weld was probably easier to reproduce, if you crack that new weld it might be more difficult to keep from looking tampered with. I always looked over every part of the holder, very close, I still feel if you do this, and you look over the book you are fine, I still buy old PSA holders and yeah I have seen the fakes, they are good, but doing it as long as I have something always gives it away but any new added security always helps.
    I just want them to secure the label and the inner well to the case. OR why not sonic seal both sides? and maybe weld their logo into those.

    What’s crazy about that small piece to the slab; I bought a Spectacular SpiderMan 9 in the 1st qtr of 2023

    That may or may not be a new security feature and more of an indication of the better seal. Their holders are molded in some way and that's where the sprue from both halves meet. Maybe because of the better seal, the higher pressure or longer time, there's a little bit more of that sprue that sticks out? As a result, they felt they needed cut or sand that little bit to make it flush with the holder? Either way, I'm a bit surprised they didn't flame polish or buff it smooth, so who knows?

    In my view, it's simply too little, too late. While I do acknowledge their efforts in implementing anti-theft mechanisms, which do enhance the integrity of their product to some extent, I remain firm in my decision not to submit any books to CGC until they reach the same level of quality and integrity that CBCS currently offers.

    Grading companies should ensure the validity of their work by putting in dye packs in their capsules. If there is an attempt to crack the slab for whatever reason, the dye pack is ruptured and whatever is in that slab is now covered in dye. This is what needed to be done when the idea of having a third party grading company was first introduced to the hobby.

    Great! So, do we not be hopeful for the best? Or be hopeful for the worst? So if we hope for the worst and get the worst and get the worst, we suffer twice rather then suffering just once? I think the product will be improved because of this, so i hope for the best, not the worst. Thanks for making it clear that a criminal case is not within CGC's power. Thanks. My ability to post was restricted due to making my comments, so i was silenced because i asked questions, mmmmmm? Should we all take a company and through it into the waste bin? All because of something that we have no control of? Because of scammers? A few bad apples? Ok! Any case can be broken into and books switched out, Immaculate Comics showed this to be true.

    I bought a 9.6 book for about $120. It had some weird clouding in two spots by the right corner. On inspecting the book, I thought it was a gift grade as it had two small spine ticks and a little color rub by the top staple. I'm probably just paranoid now that this CGC issue came to light. I'm upgrading to a 9.8. I might crack the 9.6 and keep it as a raw.

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Honestly, no one is swapping out a $120 book. You’d be risking a lifetime ban from CGC and lawsuits to make like $50.
      Also what you described is a 9.6. Might even get a 9.8. Spine ticks are allowed in 9.6 and 9.8 grades.

    Great … so they (CGC) sonically weld the side - then grind the weld down to make that spot weaker! ‘Safe’ my as!

    • @AutomaticComics
      @AutomaticComics  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it’s pretty safe to assume that isn’t all they did. They wouldn’t be advertising they made an update if they made it worse. Maybe be more patient and actually see if there’s a legitimate difference. I’m sure people will try breaking into this one too.

    • @richhistory4124
      @richhistory4124 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have not got one yet to see, but actually being uniform and flat is most likely the security, maybe the scammer was opening the case just enough to get the inner well out and the old thick weld stayed together? and now the weld will break, and the weld being clean and uniform would be harder to fix without looking tampered with. Or maybe the old weld was vulnerable to being heated and the new weld is not, or shows signs when heated? We don't want or need a holder you can't open, just one that shows it was opened, thats all, in fact it can be easy to open, just have multiple spots that show that it was opened. I'm sure they tried multiple welds, cracked them, heated the, tried to use glues etc.. and this was what worked. But should have done that originally LOL.

    People just need to learn how to grade the books themselves. Slabbing is just a scam IMO.

    • @snowrs1
      @snowrs1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      That is fine for in person buying but would destroy online purchasing. You need a 3rd party everyone trusts to set a grade or there will be problems.

    • @deerichardz
      @deerichardz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@snowrs1 That could be done, without 'slabbing' the book. I could see a grading service used, one for the seller(3rd party), one for the buyer(4th party), to get that trust. Online purchasing should endure extra costs.
      I totally understand the issue there. One of my first online purchases I made was many years ago, from Mile High. FF 48, VF. I was a novice grader back then, but when it was delivered, I cleary saw it was a VG copy at best. Sent it back, paid the 'restocking fee', and learned my lesson. Never use MH again, and source my books from a seller that paid for returns.
      I'd like to see online purchasing, with accurate grades, used for only premium books, or at the buyers request.
