I don't think that analogy crosses over anywhere close to what you think it does. You assume that the person can lose weight. I'm sure we're on the same page on if/how those are possible, sometimes. It also assumes the person can't walk due to being fat, which is pretty wild considering the slew of reasons a person can't walk leading to being "a fat fuck".
Initially it looks like you have zero understanding or empathy for others, but i think it's something else.
I think you're too wrapped up in trying to make your own thoughts into a meme, that it comes out with only a fraction of the info you had, and a fraction of that made it across.

What would be really cool would be if it could recognize a foreign accent, ask what their native language is, then start speaking in that language to avoid confusion.

Google can already do that. It can even recognize what you're saying if you have a speech impediment
SugarFreeTargets Google may already be able to do that, but as it appears on this video, duplex can't do that yet. I was only mentioning it would be a useful feature.

I actually had Google duplex call me asking the business hours of my store once. It was only after I hung up that I realised what had just happened. So bloody cool. In the moment I had no idea.

Maybe it will make a call on if a store is open on a certain date, after the call, it notifies thousands of users. No need for the store to answer tons of calls, no need for a lot of people to call.

For the restaurant call, Duplex should recognize that there is a language barrier and ask the human which language they are most fluent in... and then switch.

What if Google created AI to receive the call for the small business on the other end as well? Leaving humans pondering the philosophical question of whether a phone call actually occurred if no human was around to hear it
that would probably work better than speech recognition. Just have the AI intereact with itself and call it a day. Hell, you wont need to call just check a buch of Ifs between both to make it work

Now that Google has shown the Gemini demo this makes a lot of sense, this was a fake in 2017 as Gemini is a fake nowadays. Just a way to create a huge expectation with an scripted demo.
Spam calls will now come from bots.
For someone that has a difficult time speaking to people or a mute trying to call or talk to people, I find this extremely helpful and exciting. Able to place appointments, or have it automated so we don't have to stress about it later on or forget. And if they automatically add it to your chalander agenda it will be a blessing.

I have extremely bad anxiety. Talking on the phone to just order food or make a hair appointment sends me into major panic attacks. I have to write down everything im going to say and go over it so many times before i can make even the simplest call. This will help me so much and make my life so much easier i could cry.
Yup, this will help you be even more of a shut in and never develop good interpersonal skills.
The only way to overcome social anxiety is to confront your fears. Before you make a phone call to make a hair appointment try first calling a friend or family member. You will find it is easier to speak to a stranger after speaking to someone you are comfortable with.
you need to expose yourself to things that make you uncomfortable. I am the same way. Hate going to parties or doing social things but I realize it's important to have friends and network etc.
The others said it all, but really.. this is just going to make things worse for you. Find a good doctor if you really want help.

One of its use can be tedious calls where a Google Duplex can interact with other Google Duplex and Data is fed into the Systems, making Appointments for example where there are fixed slots. This will definitely shake receptionists and call centers, but I think can't quite work very well when human is on the other side as tackling emotional responses may not be easy (at least as of now).

As a person who stutters, I think this will make my life a little easier
For an individual it will be super helpful! I am just worried that now it sets the 'gold standard' for speech (just like now the 'gold standard' is American accent) and makes the world less accepting/compassionate towards people who already have difficulties expressing according to the 'gold standard'

You see the problem I personally have with this is the disconnect between human interaction. I guess It's not a big deal with small stuff like reservations for haircuts but what happens when people start using this with their employers? I can imagine people will use this to talk to an employer calling to set up an interview which to me is a problem. Or what happens when the person on the other end starts asking for personal information and the AI starts telling it what it knows? Computers are to spiratic for this to be practical to me.
That's not the only problem with this....do you realize that we are giving Google all our personal contact lists and data permissions that they can record and store and use at their own liberty and of all of that "legally".

Apple's phone support system is actually the smartest, smoothest automated call experience that I've ever had. It was very natural, and understood my words perfectly. Google has just taken this to a whole new level!
