Glad to have you back! As a former crim defence solicitor, I do have that innate urge to hold out until judgement on things - but perhaps I lost that somewhere coz Stardust has already been chucked. Great to hear your view point on things
That's exactly where I'm coming from, I've done some defense work and it's not something I give up lightly, but I also know this is old enough that we're really not going to get to the "truth" as far as the law is concerned and I tend to believe everything that's been alleged.
C'mon. Our family project is on Top Shelf News! When Amy, Jakob and I started writing this book together never dreamed what thrill it would be to start seeing it out there in the wild. Thanks so much my friend!
Re: Gaiman and separating the work from the author/artist: I can separate them and still enjoy works by problematic/reprehensible authors. That said, I don't support, financially or with publicity or recommendations, these authors if they're still alive. I'll quietly read their works that I already own. If the author is deceased and won't be supported by purchases or recommendations, I'll treat them as other authors, though adding caveats about their behavior to any recommendations.
As a career waiter working in top restaurants, my people reading skills always buzzed when I heard Gaiman speak. I'm not saying that I sensed anything like this, but there was definitely a professor that sleeps with his students vibe.
you're not wrong, I got that sense from him too, but as long as people consented who are we to say anything? He said this wasn't rape, the girls said it was rough and sexual assault. I don't really know who to trust honestly.
@zodlord5669 I'm not talking criminality necessarily......but NG made himself into a brand....a wise, kind, progressive champion of etc etc etc. This stuff makes him look like a hypocrite and a fraud, and it makes his literary voice into a scam.
yeah he kind of shot himself in the foot with that one. "Believe all women" was his quote. Just not these women. lol. I'm rubbing my face in disappointment.
My concern about this is that nobody seems to be able to separate the waters because I still believe a person is actually innocent until proven guilty. In my own opinion, there are people out there just screwing things up for real SA victims. I agree that people should support the victims in general but after what happened to Johnny Depp, and other case that were proven false, I started taking these things with a grain of salt because nowadays it’s just too hard and now they are canceling everything. It’s as if you can’t have favorite authors anymore. We all make mistakes and readers just have to understand that authors are human too and the fact they are famous,it doesn’t mean they can’t do anything wrong. My intuition tells me he’s innocent on the “non- consensual “ part but I could be wrong ( I doubt it but it can happen)
(Former) massive NG fan here...at first I was like, no, he's being set up. And then I actually listened to the podcasts, and later read the Vulture article. I believe these women. That all said, I don't necessary want to see the man 'fall', and that upsets me as a former fan, but I do think he needs to be face a proper judge/jury for these alleged crimes. Oh and subscribed!
I'm not a diehard fan I enjoyed many of his works and I think's he's one of the best writers in the genre. Honestly I don't believe these girls are telling the whole truth, but it doesn't really matter anymore since he lost his career now.
Yeah, at first I was really giving him the benefit of the doubt, but it's harder and harder to do the more that comes out, especially when it's he said she said and we'll probably never really "know" what went on. I do think the victims deserve a time in court.
I agree they could definitely be either lying or withholding certain info, it's so hard to tell at this point and it's so easy to armchair quarterback. I don't begrudge anyone their feelings on this and I don't even know if he deserves to lose his career. Based on my own experiences with the legal system and victims, in this situation I tend to believe the victims, but it's absolutely a tragedy if these things did happen
Great video Bryce! I appreciate your assessment of the Gaiman situation. It’s disheartening for sure, but l also side with the victims until it’s proven to be false. Mm
Yeah, I do usually try to stay neutral, but this is one where I don't think we're ever going to get full knowledge about and I've read enough now that I'm with the victims too. Thanks a ton!
Very well put on the subject of Gaiman. Your feelings mirror my own. For the most part when I posted about this the comments were pretty supportive of the position. But there’s a few who may try and pick a fight. Hopefully they’ll be few and far between on here.
Yeah and I wanted to make space for opposing views because I understand these allegations aren't substantiated. It's just that it's so hard to substantiate this type of allegation especially after this long, and victims often don't come out right away with the accusations and that has a lot to do with the problems that got them there in the first place.
Thanks for promoting some Indie Authors! I'm also with you on the Daredevil thing. I really want to be excited about it but the MCU has really been letting me down since Endgame. I hope Marvel finds a way to turn things around, but yeah like Star Wars lately I'm just not as excited as I would've been a few years ago.
Me too and I've even enjoyed a number of post-Endgame MCU, WandaVision was fun, Loki is good, and more, but none of them are what gets people hyped up! Always happy to get into the indie's!
@@ShelfCentered Yeah you're right and I guess I shouldn't say since Endgame. I really liked Loki and my kids and I loved Shang-Chi. I'm hoping this next Captain America movie is going to be good
Goddess yes on Daredevil. Punisher too 😛🙏 Luke and Jessica too. That Iron Fist guy should get another try at it 😬 Pleaee don't throw rotten things at me 😉
I revently read an article by the journalist that broke the Gaiman story. She stated that she didn't want him cancelled to the extent he has been villified. A messy situation indeed.
I saw that and it's sad, but I really don't know what she expected. I honestly don't think anyone really wants this, I always saw Gaiman as the celebrity on our side, the guy who made it big but is still a huge nerd like us and it's sad to see ...for the fans. If he did those things, I'm not sad at all for anything he gets from it.
@@ShelfCentered what he's already admitted to, ie getting in a bath with the nanny, is totally inappropriate, so therefore it's not he said she said. If he can't admit that was inappropriate that says a lot about him. the woman was lesbian and highly vulnerable. Also, have you listened to the phone call recording when he says that he "fucked up? "with Claire? That's really damning. He sounds like he has no moral compass.
For one thing, she should have clarified that she didn't break the story -- Tortoise Media did. For another, who cares what she thinks should happen? She's there to report the facts. It's up to the reader to decide what they want to do with them.
DD looks great, but it's supposed to be darker than the original and I'm like . . . really? The original wasn't dark enough? Matt smiled like twice in 3 seasons.
Your difficulty articulating the Gaiman controversy mirrors my own. I'm so tired of men misbehaving. And my selfish side is so annoyed at the ruination of my memories. Sandman is/was ? my top 5 graphic novels. It's s ridiculous that I find myself hoping for a timeline so I can still like the stuff he wrote before, maybe 😳🤦♀️😢
Yeah 100% And I thought I'd just be real with it because I honestly struggle. I love so many of his books, but it's hard to look at them the same and I absolutely believe the allegations.
it says on his wiki page that he criticized the consensus on global warming, but that was way back in the mid 2000s. right now, most skeptics have already changed their views and i have no doubt that crichton would have changed his views on global warming as well had he lived to the 2020s. gaiman's issue is a matter of human decency, like it's not even on the same page. crichton just didn't live long enough to see the world change and see more recent studies. totally different.
A fifth of the way through your comment, I got sad for your life that made you feel the need to post this. I put links to jump ahead in the description if that helps!
