This is the rightvsteo at the right time. Everything starts from somewhere, and Botswana does not have its own car fabrication, which is quite a very complex process. Important is that Botswana is involved into the automotive industry and can start from here to develop its own automotive capacities and technology!!!
About half the comments are negative. These people believe that you must start at the top, yet they are NOT at the top of their fields. One must work, learn, innovate, gather capital, formulate a team, implement the plan, manufacture or assemble the products, sell the product, collect the cash, then repeat! The foolishness of some of these comments shows that at least half of them will never be successful because they don't understand the principle of "process".
It's a lie by our president to lure votes, he ordered ready made cars and paraded them on TV, there is no plant here it's all bullshit. Elections is on Wednesday 😅
FACTS! growth and development, is a process. Its like you go abroad, to work, and people think that you should be a top manager, boss or whatever, but do not understand that you have to start at the bottom and work your way up.
TRUE DAT!! Crawl before you Walk, China assembled Western Cars before they could manufacture modern Cars, they began with Soviet technology in the 50's.
A cursory research on the success of electric vehicles, in developed countries such as the USA, leaves much to be desired. Electric vehicles there seem to have more cons than pros. Seems like to make these EVs viable in Botswana, they'll need to install a whole bunch of charging stations throughout the country, not to mention the many hours the EV battery has to be charged for travelling just a short distance. Not surprising that many people who rushed to buy EVs (in the West) have been selling them off to buy gasoline based vehicles. I hope Botswana has exaustivelly studied the crucial problems the EVs have in the West and have taken measures to mitigate them.
It depends on where you are. I live in the outer suburbs of a major city in 🇦🇺 and EVs have a big uptake in these areas as people need to drive far into the city and petrol is expensive. There aren’t enough charging ports for sure and most EVs are too expensive to buy brand new. Most people are buying preloved Tesla’s and cheap EVs from China. Keep in mind that there is huge propaganda against EVs in the west in general because they can’t compete with China so take the bad press with a pinch of salt. If these issues are fixed then there is a future for EVs in the west and Africa.
Botswana must work with Zimbabwe and Namibia it's a win -win situation Zimbabwe got steal and lithium, Namibia got oil and gas it has got access to the coastline also
Please stop praising assembly plants. We must seek a percentage of the technology used by these companies. This is exactly what the Chinese did. Look at where they are today. These companies stay as long as your economy is strong enough to support them. When they leave they leave nothing behind. These companies need our markets. The least we can do is to demand we build certain parts locally.
Technology transfer is important. Africa has had assembly plants for motor vehicles before, and when the foreign companies left, nothing was left behind. Africa needs to acquire manufacturing technology, so we can manufacture from scratch. A few vehicle manufacturing countries are doing just that, including Ghana's Kantanka, Nigeria's INNOSON, Uganda and more.
@listenup2882 african nations should learn how China did it. Stop allowing western company's to controle your production line. Most of the money goes to the west. Not to your country or your people. It's like a Westerners staring a hotel or a resort in your country yet everything they sell thete is from outside your country. They by it I'm the west. Depriving local company's if revenou and the money they make goes to there account in thete iwn country and they stimulate sales in thete own country. Don't be fooled by them
I hope the Botswanan People can import cars for themselves too and these people don't have a Monopoly over bring in / assembling cars only to sell the the citizens..... Because the dottish governments of Trinidad and Tobago Years back only used to allow syrians to bring in cars/assemble for the whole TT nation and no citizen could of bring in any smfh until the Indians stopped it.
Masisi's initiatives, no matter how good they are, were always going backfire and cost him dearly. Firstly, the diamond issue is a thorn on the side of the exploiter, secondly, the assembling of electric vehicles in Botswana, especially with the help of the Chinese or Russians, would not be a welcome initiative by the West block. US has imposed 100% tarrif on the Chinese electric vehicles, rendering them unaffordable for their local market, so Botswana's initiative is perceived to be aimed at assisting the Chinese nobble achievement. Poor Masisi could not survive the wrath of the colonial masters. Election results are just but a superficial instrument to legitimise the process.
How much research did you do on this vid I'm in Botswana and there's no evidence of the assembly plant in the country No vid evidence of the cars being assembled in the country No announcement of the assembly plant starting operations None of that was done
2 Chinese car manufacturers…cheap African labor to assemble the cars. The Chinese are making inroads. Depending on Chinese goods. Furthermore, one needs the infrastructure to support the EVs. As well as preparation for the aftermath of having heavier vehicles due to the batteries. The EV vehicles cause furrows in the roads, the brakes wear out quicker, so do the tires. Lack of ability to fix panels, etc. This is not a green energy revolution, it’s a dependency on the Chinese, and authoritarianism wrapped up as a Revolution

Africa to the world
At least some components should be manufactured on the continent. 🇱🇨
Awesome news!
Let us manufacture our own lithium batteries.

I certainly agree. We must be smarter. We really have no friends.

Botswana is not China. Botswana is nearly 40 years behind, and something complex, like building its own vehicle, can not be done from now to tomorrow.
