i LOVE how your bookcase is organized by color! i lost all my (hundreds and hundreds)of cherished and many re-read books in a housefire recently. i just bought my first book, and i plan to have a beautiful bookcase like yours! Coming from someone with a chronic disease it pissed me off. I absolutely hate that book and am pissed Hazel wasn't the one who died in the end. It's so opposite about what she said how the disease doesn't define the person, that's all she does in the book is bitch about her disease. It's annoying that she didn't die and Gus did because he actually was the one with a healthy mindset about it. ( I apologize if I got the names wrong, I read the book so long ago and hated it and I don't care enough about the book to even google the names) that book is just an insult to people with diseases trying not to let them define them.

I still have the book and might give it a try again now that I'm older and don't have to do a group project on it. I would argue that this list could easily be changed to "Top Ten Books to Read Before you Turn 20" because I think this list specifically works really well for older teens to think about the world around them and build that analytical foundation before they enter their twenties.

I recommend the book "A Little In Love" for all of you. It's about a girl, Eponine who wants to love and be honest, but that time was dark in France. Her parents forced her to steal, and a friend Cosette was treated as a maid. Her dad killed a bishop, and they ran for weeks. Cosettes mother requested Jean Valjean to take her daughter away. And, that's a tiny, small preview. You definitely have to read the book. There is so much more to it, and I'm so glad that I purchased it from the book fair!

It would be interesting to know what you have read tho, so that we can understand if you let something out on purpose (you didn't like it) or you just haven't read it yet. My personal top 15 (I couldn't pick ten!) would be: Pride and Prejudice (Austen), If this is a man (Levi), De Profundis (Wilde), The Count of Monte Cristo (Dumas), 1984 (Orwell), A Doll's House (Ibsen), Medea (Euripides), Dialogue between Tristano and a Friend (Leopardi, that's a few pages, it's one among the Small Moral Works), A room of your own (Woolf), One Hundred Years of Solitude (Marquez), Memoirs of Hadrian (Yourcenar), Macbeth (Shakespeare), Iliad (Homer), War and Peace (Dostoevskij) Harry Potter series (Rowling).

The symbolism DOES play a good part in the book, but I liked hearing it after I had a full picture of the story first because a lot goes on, and there are a lot of characters.

While you were introducing this video I was looking for the book thief in your book shelf (I've never seen your channel before). When you said it was your all time favorite book I just about lost my cool because, same. I don't even read much if I'm being honest, but I want to which is why I'm here. That book is one of my favorite things though.

In no order really, I’d say
    Ishmael - Daniel Quinn
The Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
The Story of B - Daniel Quinn
My Ishmael - Daniel (trilogy of his other two on here)
    1984 - George Orwell
Brave New World - Arduous Huxley
    Sophie’s World - Jostein Gaarder
Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance - Robert Pirsig
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
    Anthem - Ayn Rand
The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald
Have fun :p always try to remember and focus on the philosophical and thematic/symbolic arguments shown throughout literature :))

Plz tell us something about Ishmael. I ve heard a lot about it.

Zaid Rehman to me personally, Ishmael (and the whole series really) is a one of a kind experience. It is kind of transcendental in a way, it talks about essentially earth, human history, the flaws that plague humans as a whole, and the possible attributions we can give to earth and ‘mother culture’. The series definitely isn’t your basic fantasy surface level series, it is very deep and philosophical, and I highly recommend them. :)

I read the whole list already before I saw the video.
I noticed these are mostly american books. Here is my list (as a german girl)
    1. Dostojewski, Idiot
    2. Juli Zeh, Play instinct
    3. Juli Zeh, Corpus delicti
    4. Orwell, Animal farm
    5. Süskind, Perfume
And maybe, just for fun: Poznanski, Erebos
My favourite book still: Why we took the car by Herrndorf, an amazing german author who died too early.

So glad to see someone mention Patrick Süskind! Perfume is so beautifully written, (or at least the English translation is.)

cant stick with you on the Idiot - its a difficult read of over 700 pages and payoff does not balance the scale for me.
