To people who say "I don't wear body armor because someone can just shoot me in the head" I always say, wearing body armor makes them have to shoot you in the head.
james smith Liberty already makes what you are looking for they call it "Civil Defense" 2000 fps 9mm HP. There 10mm can pretty much replicate a 5.56 carbine. a 60 grain HP moving 2400 fps.
There's a lot of specialty 12 gauge ammo out there, but the one I like the most is the 'Pit Bull' rounds from Firequest. It's what I loaded up my 590 with when I was in bear country back when I lived in Idaho, one of the few areas in the Lower 48 where grizzlies are still a threat that you have to be prepared to deal with. The 'Pit Bull' is six 00-Buck pellets topped with a 1.3 oz. slug. I figured that if the slug doesn't immediately take him down maybe the buck shot will take out his eyes. A blind bear is a little less dangerous during an attack. (Of course you're not going to leave the bear in such a condition. If you're forced to shoot it at all, keep shooting it until it's dead. Even if it's attacking you you still don't want the animal to suffer anymore than is absolutely necessary, and injured bears are damn dangerous!)
A good test for that anti-spall/fragmentation coating these armors have is to put the plate into a cardboard box, or something like that, so you can see if the area around the plate gets impacted with shrapnel. At least I think that would work. Better than just looking at the coating after a shot and saying "yep, looks like it worked."
I feel like the most common rounds that would be coming my way if I ever needed to wear this would be: 9mm, .223/5.56, and 12 ga. I would like to see a test of armor vs. each of these rounds at 100 yards, and 50 yards. That would be a great informative video.
I am curious about the PDX 1 Winchester round. I have some, but haven't shot at any hard targets yet. I did see some ballistics tests on it. It seems pretty nasty.
Used to work with inmates, the one guy had gotten into a standoff with the cops, he'd run out his trailer taunt the cops and run back in. The one time he did this a cop was standing next to the door and lit him up with bean bags. He has scars where they hit, but bean bags do not mean instant compliance. He managed to get back inside and continued the standoff for a few more hours. He said he had a case of beer and didn't want to go to jail till it was finished lol.
Thanks for the video. I love shotguns. I still use my double barrel Stevens every hunting season. And it is 60+ years old and kicks harder than any mule. But that kick lets me know I am alive. I love it. My friends will not shoot it anymore after they shoot it once. The barrels are different chokes. Both sides will shoot shot loads. But only one barrel will shoot the old pumpkin balls or slugs. I love being able to carry two different loads at the same time. Comes in real handy. Poor Bob. Man down!
I know just what you mean when you say you can feel the energy transfer. When I shoot varmints there is a palpable "thump" that resonates in my chest after the impact. I can't tell if it's coming through the air or the ground, but it's very distinct.
Damn I love shotguns. such power. I have a Mossberg 930 and it eats everything I throw at it and then some. I used 3 inch turkey magnum rounds and that was a blast. down to the super low recoil low impulse rounds, it functioned fine.
For those not acquainted with basic physics there is no point in firing 12 gauge at plate armor. It does not have enough speed to punch through. You could test the spawl liner but that is about it.
Has anyone seen the Jack Ass clip where Knoxville takes a bean bag to the gut? Put him the fuck down. Then the bruise a couple days later was fucking brutal. If you havent seen it, you gotta check it out.
I really have the feeling that you love your job!!!!!!!!!!!! Wished you were a hair closer as I would get you shooting some fancy airguns as in small bore pneumatics.
The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors , in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. Newtons second law of motions. Basically the recoil is exactly the same amount of felt energy as impact. Once the projectile slows down its actually greater.
What happens once the Coating that suppose to trap the shots? Does the shrapnel cut you or can the vest capture it? Also it would be nice to see the result from a non coated one.
How common is it so shoot around body armor? Like in the video I noticed when you shot him without armor a lot of the rounds were landing in the area that the armor would be if he was wearing it. And how much damage is caused when someone manages to get around the armor?
I've been looking at Spartan armor and plate carrier packages.i can't even afford it and there's people just shooting them up for videos, what am I doing wrong?
You fellows should sell those shot up plate carriers and maybe even the plates. Those who are skilled with the thread and needle can make them somewhat useful again, ha. The plates on the other hand...well I am sure us handy people can do something with them.
Scott F Yeah but I think still better than getting pelted in the head with hot brass from a .45. :/ Always forget how fast that stuff flings out the port!
Heh Eric could you do a video about what shotgun ammo is ok for rifled barrels and smooth bores and what chokes to use for slugs? I'm kinda confused which kinda setup is for a rifled slug or sabot slug. I think a shotgun ammo do and don'ts would be good.
raider762 Erik is quite right. The bullet has no stability imparted. Rifled slugs are geometrically stable like a badmitton birdy, so even shot out of a smoothbore they are stable are surprisingly accurate. Sabot slugs (typically) rely on rifling to stabilize the bullet inside the sabot. Without it it tumbles like a football thrown without a spiral.
Hans Blitz unless it was an armor-piercing slug then yes it would penetrate I think they said it was level 3A I'm not too sure but they said it was some kind of level three armor?
Jose Muniz there is a such thing as armor piercing slugs that do exist Dyer designed Pierce fruit armor plating so yes there is such thing as that exists.
You've done several video's/reviews on "Spartan" 550 armor. Would you do one on "Caliber Armor" 550?? Caliber is about the same price but with the "multi curve" at no extra charge. Just curious about a side by side comparison.
someone should invest in a force meter and place it between the body and armor. That way everybody could get a idea how much force is transferred into the body on impact. Just a idea and the ballistic jell test are so awesome to see.
So, what is a good product to use to coat body armor that comes WITHOUT anti spalling coating? There are a few rubberized products out there in spray and brush on forms. I bought some armor on Ebay that "looked" coated but, it was just painted.
To people who say "I don't wear body armor because someone can just shoot me in the head" I always say, wearing body armor makes them have to shoot you in the head.
8:33 well that took a fast turn to something else. Lol
For real
JDshootsalot LMAO, nice warm load.....
Thanks for the demonstration. My son and I were impressed, by the punishment this armor took.
Poor Bob turned into SpongeBob after the final test on him
Haha
lol
Lmao
EupedUpp Still waiting on an Underwood Lehigh Extreme Penetrator vs soft body armor test!

Love to see how the armor will hold up with the Hornady SST slugs.
Chad's wife must be a good cook lol.Great video guys.
We need to see Stumpy Mosin /VS/ Regular Mosin rifle on body armor or possible Balistic gel...
YES, THIS, THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN
***** I recon it would be disappointing. It looked to me in the test that it lost allot of velocity when they shortened the barrel. Also, ARMA 3 FTW
Bill Buck I would in fact like to see how much it actually lost compared to full size 1890/30 and possibly 45 carbine version.
The last bit of the video is my favourite, it's like a hit squad send out for job. Good video, keep it up.
Best TH-cam gun channel. Period.
I don't know weather, "Lets get after it," is a local phrase or just your line, but I love it.
Well done. I expected more visible impact, for some reason. Looks like the armor did it's job.
"Instant compliance" haha, great verb-age.
I am curious about the PDX 1 Winchester round. I have some, but haven't shot at any hard targets yet. I did see some ballistics tests on it. It seems pretty nasty.

Not only is that instant compliance with the bean bag. That shot was right on the heart, probably causing instant death lol.
At the end there, Ballistic Bob turned into Peter Weller at the start of Robocop
maddymann8 Nope, he turned into that guy at OCP shredded by ed-209.
You have any more plans for ceramic armor testing, Eric? I'd love to see that. Great work as always!
I'm glad to see you stepped up the gun videos because Hickock 45 seems to be falling off. Keep up the good work.
Nice seeing you guys have fun. XD Greetings from germany
9:20 😆😆😆
Can't hide the joy in shooting!
I know just what you mean when you say you can feel the energy transfer. When I shoot varmints there is a palpable "thump" that resonates in my chest after the impact. I can't tell if it's coming through the air or the ground, but it's very distinct.
Great video. Thanks for showing the effectiveness of a 12G and body armor as well.
Keep on keeping on
Don't hate on dirt, lol. He helped kicking wing sell the good fireworks. Lmao
Chad's southern operator gut is gaining mass.
Awesome! Love the gun videos guys :)
it may not penetrate but a 1 ounce slug would put you out of the fight for a few moments for sure!
A warm load huh? Hahaha. Good one guys
"We're gonna send ballistic Bob off with a nice warm load... ..... Of buckshot." 🤣
i love you guys. any gun/armor video i want to research, you guys have it.
I was opening my garage and thought he said the rancher had a real bad Marijuana problem hahahaha
Diggin' the Vortex t-shirt Ray's wearing
Quote of the video: "That's instant compliance right there." :)
staying tuned
Great video! Very interesting. Thanks for posting!
Another great vid... thanks..
Why dont you make a video about how many of balastic bob can a .50cal cross ?
I found when both of them shot at Bob i felt quite relaxed lol
Awesome video
Damn I love shotguns. such power. I have a Mossberg 930 and it eats everything I throw at it and then some. I used 3 inch turkey magnum rounds and that was a blast. down to the super low recoil low impulse rounds, it functioned fine.
lmao "you turn a corner and there's a guy with a shotgun"
9:12 Robocop anyone?
Exactly what I thought! Murrrrphy!
Boomstick: DAMN! That guy can eat more bullets than 50 Cent!!
8:32 "With a nice warm load"......................................

If you havent seen it, you gotta check it out.
Oh yeah! It was devastating. Remeber how they said it would stop his heart if he got shot there.
+MuhLogan have you seen the Jack Ass clip when Stev-o get shot in the ass with a potato canon loaded with a orange?
"We're gonna send him off with a nice warm load." You're a dirty dirty man lol.
WE NEED TO SEE STUMPY MOSIN VS ARMOR!
8:23 😣 Damn, That could probably stop your heart
That was amazing. I'm getting an armor
Those two grumpy, old men sitting on the porch with their shotguns... This is them as young men.
Whatever happened to the planned perfect pairs video?
Great video.i also thought the man can I got was awesome.keep up the great job guys
No ballistic gel was harmed in the making of this video
"send him off with a nice warm load" That phrasing tho..
great video, thanks guys :D

have you done one with soft armor yet?
Great video!
That hurt just watching it!
That was awesome!!
Beanbag was NAAASSTYYY.

What brand earphones are you guys wearing? I'm looking for a slimmer electric pair and I like the looks of those
What is the ear protection that Eric and Chad are using in this video?
Looks like the Howard Leight electronic hearing muffs. I have the same ones and they work great.
9:21 what John Marston be like at the end of red dead redemption
would birdshot be effective to disable an attacker with body armour by hitting face, hands legs and anything not covered by the armour ?
You fellows should sell those shot up plate carriers and maybe even the plates. Those who are skilled with the thread and needle can make them somewhat useful again, ha. The plates on the other hand...well I am sure us handy people can do something with them.
3:29 sparks fly out by the neck
Ha Chad takes a shell casing off the brain box. Doh!!!
Scott F Yeah but I think still better than getting pelted in the head with hot brass from a .45. :/ Always forget how fast that stuff flings out the port!
not one but two shells
The end reminded me of Peter Weller in the beginning of RoboCop.
That synchronized laugh though.
The end of the video reminded me of ROBOCOP 1.......LMAO

Can you shoot slugs with a choke? If so which ones?
Can you shoot without a choke?
Merci du partage encore une bonne video comme ont lai aime
Can you try out the body armor with the( improvised .50cal) the 12 gauge firing a .50 cal round at ?
You've done several video's/reviews on "Spartan" 550 armor.
Would you do one on "Caliber Armor" 550??
Caliber is about the same price but with the "multi curve" at no extra charge.
Just curious about a side by side comparison.

how come you guys never did a video on the KSG?? do you guys like it? now that the prices are down im thinking of picking one up
A nice, warm load. (Of buckshot, of course)
I hope to see full auto, or bumpfire. on the unprotected torso next time.
They shoot a poor dude with shotguns, look at each other and break out in laughter...lol =)
Hello Brother,
Love you videos! Do you have a video on the Spartan Armor 650 level III + I see many of your 550 videos but none on the 650??
wow, Eric, did you loose some weight? or is it just the camera?
That's some mafia stuff right there LOL
Is Chad packing a little extra weight?
***** I think they said he just had a kid a while back, must be some baby fat.
***** why are you noticing that? sorta weird if you ask me....
Ray D. When you see some one basically every week for 4 years and then all of a sudden they look like they gained weight you notice.
I noticed it as well
XxPurpleXHazeX You have a cute name.
You went full RoboCop 1 on his ass in the end.
Just ordered my man can!!
Nice, kinda like the scene from original robocop. And that dude had body armor
nice vid ,, but id rather saw you and Chad finish off ballistic Bob with AA-12
:D :D
So, what is a good product to use to coat body armor that comes WITHOUT anti spalling coating? There are a few rubberized products out there in spray and brush on forms.
I bought some armor on Ebay that "looked" coated but, it was just painted.
have you Review any Type of Barrett I saw one one of the top 5's the M107
"nice warm load..." As Archer would say, phrasing.
