    You simply use your pinky + the edge of your hand to quickly roll up or down the volume while playing with one simple move. No thumb involved. That’s much quicker. That’s also why the volume is the outer ring. Makes much more sense for probably 90% of all players.

  • @brentsdesk7139

    Thanks for review. One comment on 59M volume controls (9:22 in video), the lower volume knobs allow player to press against pick guard and easily roll the volume on or off with little finger. With some practice, I used it to create a vibrato effect.

    I love those re-issued Danelectro guitars. They have wonderful necks and finger boards. The old ones would feed back a lot.

      I have an old 1448. It's often going out of tune, and tuning's harder to dial in. It has one of the worst headstock shapes I've ever seen. The neck's made of Poplar and Brazilian Rosewood, and the string angling at the nut is ridiculously bad.

    I got a black one with a white pick guard. This is the guitar that Jimmy Page used on Kashmir and Ten Years Gone. For the money its a steal and like what Shane said, its got a very different sound. it makes a great additional guitar. Also it will fit into the same size guitar case that a Strat would fit into

    I could hear the tone knobs have the same problem that I have with my left-handed Danelectro Vintage 12: tone all the way off is dark. Move it just a bit and it goes totally bright. Putting it on a scale, at 10, totally bright. At 1, totally dark. But at 2.5, it goes totally bright and stays unchanged as bright from 2.5 up to 10.
    This is caused by them using an “A” audio taper pot wired in reverse for tone. I had to replace my tone pot with a linear taper pot for normal tone control. Then the volume pot was a linear taper that I had to replace with a “C” reverse audio taper pot for proper left handed volume control.
    These replacements were easy and inexpensive for my guitar. But you have concentric pots and there is no way you are going to find “C” reverse audio taper concentric pots for proper left handed control. One of the (many) times where being left-handed is a gear disadvantage.

    A great guitar for any collection, I love the 12 string, it never goes out of tune. Of course, I spent a few hours rubbing down the neck with steel wool. Every guitar that falls into my hands gets the same treatment.

    Good sound Shane, just be aware that the middle position, is wired in SERIES, not PARALLEL! An easy fix with an extra switch, to get parallel wiring to really GET that jangly sound out of it! Series is always thicker sounding as the outputs are summed together.

  • @andrewkaetz1967
    @andrewkaetz1967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your review is ultimately fair. I own an older Dano U-1 reissue. To me this type of guitar IS Danelectro! The Masonite Body with the solid neck and lipstick pickups. Yeah the neck heel is a bit of a bummer, but like you said, for rhythm work it is amazing! The dual pots are kind of a challenge, and I would hate to have to find a dealer to replace one (thankfully the U-1 only HAS one pot because it only has one pickup!!!). But all that aside I just love the quirky, retro vibe of the thing. Well done Shane!

    I like the bridges on the older models. Idk why they routed a chunk out and stuck a wraparound in there. It's kind of weird.

    • @shaunw9270
      @shaunw9270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm guessing because there are some older reissue Danelectro guitars where the bridges were bad quality and badly connected to the body, technically period correct lol . My mate has one and it's an ok instrument & has the sound but intonation & overall feel is not on par with later guitars & definitely the new ones .

      Joey these were $50 guitars originally. They were Christmas presents. But people found a use for them and they got popular. They could change everything on the guitar and make it better and easier to play but that's not the point. They changed the couple things but they kept the original design. You buy a danelectro because they're cool. that's it.

    I somehow got the EXACT same Dano Snowflake metal 59M nos+ -- this guitar is a tone monster. I use a volume pedal so the cupcake knobs don't bother me and I use the tone knobs on a tube amp or modeler. The pickup switch is the only thing I use on the guitar honestly. And I can reach all the way up the neck, even with how it's constructed. Maybe my fingers are different (?) but I get full access just like I'm playing an Ibanez super Strat. Heck, I want to get the 59XT to replace my humbucker guitar. The neck and build quality on these Korean Danos is amazing.

      That's right the Gretsch guitars that's probably why it's ingrained in my brain. It screams the 50s. I'm probably just tired with the traditional colors. They were always considered too flashy. Glam band kind of things. I love the look of A Reliced Sparkle Telecaster. It looks like something you would find in somebody's closet. I even bought a can of green Sparkle paint. @@guitarocd9984 That's sort of what happened with me. Once you collect all the guitars you've been after, then you start broadening the search. When I got the Italia, I realised I REALLY like semi hollows. I'm about to make a Jimmy Page #3 LP (red one), so I've got some sparkle red (originally it was a gold top with red sprayed over the top). The trick with spraying metallics is do criss-cross patterns so you don't get a build up of sparkle in the one spot (unlike a traditional spray where you'd layer it all in the one direction). Then a quick blast all over and finish with a clear coat and buff that.

    If Danelectro wouldn't have sent out hundreds and hundreds of guitars for free to every single guitary TH-camr with more than 500 followers in the last 18 months, they could probably sell these guitars for 20% less in stores... XD Every musician seriously interersted in guitars knows about Danelectro anyways, I don't know whether their marketing-storm really pays off... I lost interest when these guitars popped up on every channel. I had one about 6y ago and played a couple more here and there recently... it's kind of a funny guitar but still feels and sounds cheap. A lot of TH-camrs sold them off after they've done their part of whatever agreement with Danelectro they've had... I just love guitars and find it sad when guitar brands try to manipulate people with marketing instead of convincing with quality. ...Fender decreased the build quality of their guitars since 2017 and pumped the saved money into their extreme social media marketing and they seem to do quite well financially... So maybe that's the way to go. It's about money, right? And growth. And market share. Not music.

    You will always suck when you play a Guitar store guitar, sad only 2 left handed guitars displayed, the usual Fender squire not in tune, no set, and an Ibanez over priced POC. The Ibanez I barely got tuned because the B string was slotted to low and you can shot an arrow with the string height. And the freebee picks .025mm bend in the wind. Next time I bring my D' Addario 1mm picks or my Clayton 1mm. You need a video of the plight and prejudice against left handed players. 10 percent of the population is left handed, so if a music store has 200 guitars there should be 20 left handed guitars. Most of my purchases are online so I don't have to hear a sales guy say if you play right handed you will have more choices LMFAO I have 26!
