This coaches mantra of you have to be playing is so good for US soccer. This brings back the grit and grind days of when Dempsey, and howard were playing. We these players have to earn it!!
Yes, it is important to have players who play with hunger in the team. We have been missing that for a while now. Dempsey was awesome and a joy to watch
It is a smart approach and I dont know why it took a new coach to realize this. The Federation should always choose players who are in form at their club as opposed to bench warmers on good teams. I didnt know it was such a hard concept to grasp....Maybe a start from scratch approach is what this program needed.
If Weah didn’t push that player in the head we win that game and then the Uruguay game wouldn’t have mattered. If that didn’t happen Greg would still be our coach.
Despite that you did take the lead in that game. You lost due to poor in game management. You should have then parked the bus. You lost a forward and it doesn’t excuse the poor defending. Plenty of teams in that position would have gone on to win. Remember it was Panama, not exactly a powerhouse.
I don't know why Trusty didn't get looked at. Sure his team got relegated but he was the only other guy besides Richards getting regular playing time in the Premier League.
AT LAST..a SOUTH AMERICAN COACH AND PLAYER THAT SEES WHATS GOING ON...MAURICIO IS GOING TO SEE ALL THE STUFF IN THE USMNT...i know he will do his JOB..is UP TO THE PLAYERS TO BE HUNGRY , SMART, A GO GETTER, SAVVY AT THE PITCH ETC....I WANNA SEE THE ATTACKS ...FROM ALL OVER...SO IS UP TO THE PLAYERS ...IS TIME TO SEE SOMETHING
Poch is have to adapt his style for international tournament football. He can’t play open expansive football with this team. You’ll get torn apart by the bigger nations. He’ll be more pragmatic with emphasis on being tough to break down playing on the counter. He definitely won’t risk playing out from the back as he does at club level. You don’t have defenders who can receive the ball.
Odd that of all the players they listed who need to be playing regularly they left out Gio Reyna. IMO they didn’t mention him on purpose. He needs minutes more than anyone.
At some point Gio needs to be judge don the same standards as everyone else. Then again the last time the coaching staff saw him not really playing and thought he might be hurt...well...you know what happened lol
They’re really talking about the more fringe players. Guys like Gio and Pulisic walk into this team even if they’re not playing for their clubs. You don’t have a huge depth in quality and the pool is not that deep. Obviously anyone playing in Europe is at an advantage as they’re all playing in competitive leagues. I only see MLS players as squad fillers.
@@AdamdiditUltimately who do you have thats better than him? The pool is not that deep tbf. Gio should however look for a loan move if he’s not going to be playing just to keep him match fit.
You guys are pumped....I LOVE IT!!!! We got a phenomenal Coach ...What a gift* I'm soul stoked...This is huge for our culture and development moving forward....I'm so HAPPY!!! Let's Go USA.....LET'S GO BABY!!!!
This is good within reason...for example a 90 minute a game Aaron Long is not better than a benched Chris Richards in the EPL. They need to pump the brakes and let Poch speak for himself.
Poch will pick whoever best fits the system he’ll play. What he shouldn’t do is play guys out of position just to get them in the team, but most of the team picks itself I believe with those playing in Europe being his core team.
Fun conversation, guys. Really good job. Regarding Ponche- time will tell. When's the first practice? Who are his assistants going to be? Let's not make him 'the coach-savior' just yet. Lots of potential, though. Thanks, guys. Loved how Jimmie was trying to teach Tony how to handle the trolls while Charlie was hoping that Tony got triggered. Fun stuff.
Everyone on the squad that went to the Copa would be starters if they played in MLS, but that wouldn’t make them better. Most of the team plays in Europe, but not all of them are good enough to be regular players in big clubs. So that means they have to settle being regulars for lower tier clubs or even MLS
@@rvog6584 Is it still 1996 in your head sir? MLS isn't rostering people form tv shows. It's rostering the 4th or 5th most World Cup players from 10+ countries. MLS is a top 15 league in actual reality. There are about 5-6 leagues at this point that fit what you're saying and are so far ahead that players getting occasional minutes is better. That's it. The rest aren't "MILES" ahead. Period.
The whole play at club to get called in, Where was Charlie during the entire tenure of Berhalter? Dude kept picking Greggs favorites over players playing week in and week out.
That’s just common sense, what were you expecting bench minutes 😂 I hope the players work hard for a starting position not like before when the players just thought there positions were untouchable. I hope the new coach 🧼 cleans the house and gets rid of the players who think they are all that!!!!!!
Those on the fringe or looking to break in obviously need to be playing, but there are still some who get in even if they’re not. The US doesn’t have a huge depth of quality to choose from. The pool is not that deep. Who replaces Pulisic for example if he’s injured or not getting picked? The drop off is steep.
I'm excited to see if Poch will be more dynamic with our tactics ( no more high press or bust) and how he develops our bench. There is no way we can run deep in a WC without having a talented bench we can go to.
As an MLS fan, I agree. All the Americans in the league are some of the lesser players in the league. There's pretty much only potentially Patrick Schultz as a keeper, but nothing else.
I'm confused, they keep talking about Pochettino's work at Tottenham and projecting that onto the USMNT as if the same results can be achieved. Have they seen the pool of players available to the USMNT, the working conditions are totally different, make it make sense?
I watched Trusty in the Prem. He is way too indiscipline. He closes out recklessly and allows his man around him far too easily. Grant it Sheffield was terrible as a whole defensively in the Prem, like all time bad. However, he's a part of that. I have a tough time bringing him in until there is any improvement in his game... Tony talking MLS is funny.
The idea is touches together..max touches to know how one plays equals quicker play. The idea is USA has to be quicker with intent on their play. They've progressed, now it's time to get smarter

Holy Freaking God…say it out loud you cowards: Gio Reyna! You are all so scared of his daddy that you perform the worlds worst mental gymnastics to not mention the elephant in the room!
I really don't like making statements that you have to be playing. You could be on Real Madrid or Man City and be getting very few minutes and still be a great player. Why would a coach make a blanket statement like that?
What's with trying to panic our players? You want them all to go to crappy teams? If Puli had listened to you instead of swinging for the fences he'd... what? Be in MLS? Jeebus.
Oh yeah. Please don't be too Ra-Ra USA as far as USSF/USMNT goes. When they need to be taken to task, they should be. To be honest, it was the fans that did this, not the 'experts.' On this move, however, USSF may have gotten it right. For that, good job USSF. We, the fans, will be watching.
This coaches mantra of you have to be playing is so good for US soccer. This brings back the grit and grind days of when Dempsey, and howard were playing. We these players have to earn it!!
The players weren't hungry enough. Hopefully this time the grit can keep up with the skill we've been sorely missing.
Yep! I remember that! Donovan was also leading the LA Galaxy playing all the time!
Gee the resume one must have to know that. Wish USA knew the little things...

Trusty should absolutly play on this team. He is a strong CB!
I don't know why Trusty didn't get looked at. Sure his team got relegated but he was the only other guy besides Richards getting regular playing time in the Premier League.
Is he a CB now? He was playing LWB for Sheffield last I watched, and defending wasn't his strength lol
I’d bet my house that Trusty is in the starting 11 when the World Cup begins. Plus he has another 2 years of growth until the Cup.
