  • This song was such a banger when it came out in 2013. The combination of Daft Punk, Nile Rodgers, and Pharrell Williams was so killer. When I heard it, I almost immediately wrote up an arrangement for my group Boogaloo 7, and this one would throw the audience into a frenzy every time we played it at our Friday night residency at the Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City, MO. Good times. I hope you enjoy my take on this super funky pop hit!

0:40 Here it would be possible to add a little atmosphere to the sound by gradually extending the drawbar. but even so it sounds coo. lI'm glad you continue to make content. Good Hammond organ solos are especially scarce these days. but you've clearly added to this list Keep it up!

Thank you! Yeah, I actually meant to do something different in that section, but got into the groove and forgot. Haha!

Very groovy!!! I'm always fascinated by your noiseless keys and the pedal.

Thank you! The upstop and downstop felts in this organ’s manuals were replaced not too long ago, so there’s not to much clack, but there are some squeaky keys. I also play with a pretty light touch.

Cool cover!!!! This is the third notice I saw for it and the first one that worked. Was there a copyright issue??? Great playing on this cool pop tune!!!

The upload kept doing weird things and the 720p resolution wasn’t available on playback with the first couple attempts. Thanks for watching as always!

Wow...Fantastic groove! What are you playing with the foot pedal?

Thank you! Playing downbeats with the pedals for emphasis and then some tapping in between left hand notes to simulate ghost notes that a bass guitarist would play. Chester Thompson from Tower of Power is the absolute best at this.

Thank you! That makes sense. I was hearing these ghost notes...-:) I'll check Chester T. Any recording in particular you can recommend? Thank you!

Squib Cakes is the classic track to check out where the bassist drops out during his solo. Also, this clinic is essential viewing:

I did not think that this combination would work. I was wrong. In all honesty, how long did it take you to work up this custom arrangement?

Thank you! When we played it live, it was with my group consisting of organ, trumpet, tenor sax, bari sax, guitar, drums, and congas. It was HEAVY! The arrangement came together pretty quick. Probably a couple of hours to transcribe the melody from the original recording and add some horn harmonies.
