    Almost finished my home built laser with a 80w tube. Tried LightBurn and will buy it. For me it is more intuitiv then RDWorks. Keep on the good work. I like your videos and they were a great help for me putting the laser together. Regards Tom Switzerland

      thanks Tom nice to know that the videos are helpful. I'm interested in your "build your own machine" I'd be very interested in having a look at some of those photos feel free to post them in the community part of my channel, or email them directly to me.
      I will also be starting a build your own laser series here on my channel very soon using parts that I acquire from cloudray laser. the first lot of my parts arrived yesterday, I'm looking forward to starting the build.
      Cheers Matt

    I am new to Lightburn and looking to make an engraving template from wood that I can quickly load multiple parts into for engraving. How would I load the wood template into the machine in the same spot each time so the parts are engraved correctly?

    extremely useful. I am going to have to watch it a few more times before it all clicks with me lol - but, I think it will be very useful for me. the Different origins have been driving me mad. I get confused between the Job Origin and the machine origin - always!

    Hi there, what version of RD Works do you have as I don't have the settings the home setting but only the position setting?

  • @acdii

    Thanks, this was very helpful in setting the origin. I had to keep guessing and using frame to make sure the cut part landed on the piece, now I have it so I set the corner to the head, square it and good to go. I cut parts for RC airplanes from sheet stock, balsa and plywood, so first thing I do is create a non cut rectangle that matches the overall size of the material, then place the parts I want to cut out on it. I was having issues getting it to line up because I had it set to absolute. Now I know what setting to use and works like a charm.
    What power is your laser? I have a 60/50 (Rated 60 but really 50) and trying to determine the speed and power to cut cleanly through 1/8th (3mm) aircraft ply, and I keep ploughing instead of clean cutting.

    Hello! since English is not my native language, I don't think I understood well, how to "convince" the laser to start cutting from the place I want? if I have a space between other already cut spaces, how do I insert an image there to cut? I tried several settings and it still moves a few cm lower, to the left or to the right compared to how I move it manually. Do you have a video that shows how we can cut efficiently, to use all the remaining spaces? I make toppers, and from the small spaces, I cut out a heart, a star, a bow, also so as not to waste material. Thanks a lot for your help!

    Matt is it possible to move the green "Start point" to the center of the text box as a start point. I'm using RD Works v8 and I do a lot of round parts. It would seem much easier to find the center and use that as a point to start the etching process. As of now I'm configuring size of text and moving accordingly. THX

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in RDWorks, go to the CONFIG - SYSTEM SETTINGS menu and change the LASER POSITION to the Centre dot of the 9 available location options.

    When you moved the laser head over the dot in the centre of the circle, how do you know that it’s spot on the centre mark?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are using a red dot that is positioned on the side of the nozzle, you can 1st set the correct focus gap on a scrap piece of material, then without moving the material adjust the red dot to point exactly on the pulse mark you just made, then you will be sure that the pulse/laser is in the same position as the red dot.

    Hi Matt, I have seen your videos and I liked them a lot, you know I am starting to work with a laser cutter, I have a doubt, when I use LB to run a program, using the recommended values (speed and laser power) I have had problems so that the machine cuts the pieces well. however using RDworks, with the same parameters I have no problem. My question is if there is some type of configuration in LB that I am not aware of, configuration that could be related to the information that controls the laser power source.
    an apology if I'm being inconsistent, I just don't know what the cause could be.
    Thanks in advance.
    Blessings...

    my origin is a few inches off in the Y axis... where the "top" of the project is a few inches into the bed. It'll show it at the very top in lightburn but on the actual bed, it's the top left is all the way to the left and about 2 inches into the bed. any suggestions?

    Simply, put: if I want the home and the origin for both the laser cutter AND LightBurn to be in the bottom left hand corner, to have to reset the home and origin on BOTH the laser cutter and LightBurn? I want to use the front/bottom left corner because (a) that is closer to the exhaust port on my machine and (b) it seems more familiar to me as Quadrant I of Cartesian coordinates. (I haven't uet upgraded the 6442 to the 6445, so I don't have an "origin" button on the controller.)

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The origin of your laser is where the x and y limit switches are. For the red&black laser machines this is usually top right or left.

      RED COLOR IS FOR ZERO MACHINE, YOU CAN CHANGE UNDER SETTING IN LB, GREEN DOT IS FOR ORIGEN POINT OF THE JOB OR THE VECTOR TO BE BURNED.

    I have other objects on a different layer with the output turned off, but when I click on user origin the green dot does not move, it stays on the file that is set not to cut/scan, do you know why? cheers

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is correct, even if the layer is set output=off the green origin dot will not move because the layout still contains the other items.

    Anyone have any idea if you can have your laser end at a different point than the origin? I want to cut squares in a line, then have it move 2mm above the top line, and wait there, so I can origin, and start another row, or be done, instead of trying to line it up to exactly 2 mm above the last row?

    • @banata21
      @banata21 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using RD Works, but I also have light burn

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      why don't you use grid array to have all the rows cut at once rather then origin between each row?
      other option is set the Manual step space to the height of each square row (Plus 2mm) , then at end of processing 1 row, manual step up once and then press origin and start again

  • @ormondscott191
    @ormondscott191 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why on light burn your on top right but it cuts bottom right

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When laser start position is set to one of the options "current position" or "user origin" the position of the diagram in lightburn can be positioned anywhere, as the laser is not using the "absolute origin" settings.
