De mi vida profesional the most deep, pure and heavenly thoughts came while playing this unique soul's poem. Thanks Herrn Brhams, we so much love you and your music that God might have enjoyed when He created and loved us.
Oh, I'm a great fan of Robert Schumann's music and have always been interested by his life and what happened to the people he loved after his mental collaspe. I enjoyed this video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
Thank you for the wonderful comentary on Brahms' life. I feel a closer connection to this beautiful piece of music. On a seperate video of the same song I commented that I was trying to intellectualize the emotions this music evokes in me. After reading your accompanying notes it has become clear to me that these imperfectly understood emotions are a "resignation of what cannot be changed".
Thank you so much for making this. One of my favorite movements by Brahms and certainly a work of genius. This is put together in story form very well and even quite poetic towards the end.
You should consider to unable commenting here, for you have put such love and effort in this clip to present the wonderful music of Brahms and give an insight how that grand piece came to existence. It is a pitty to have the site spoiled by brainless comments of some rather simple minds. Thank you for uploading, God bless
thank you, for sparing your kind time, to include all this interesting biographical details on the life of Brahms. A humble composer who prized synthesising Baroque counterpoint with Classical symphonism and Romantic expression,as opposed to contemporaries such as Wagner who wanted to "rip it up and start again." While influential music critic Hanslick championed Brahms often by pitting him against Wagner, Brahms himself was not anti-Wagnerian. Each expressed mutual admiration for one another.
Very nice tribute set to one of Brahms's most heartfelt creations. And a very expressive interpretation of this movement. Composed when he was 50, the 3rd Symphony seems to be Brahms's reconciliation to bachelorhood. It's built on the motto F-A-F, symbolizing "Frei aber Froh" (free but happy). This tender love duet (low instruments answered by high) is a dance, but also wistful lovers farewell. I imagine the words "Clara, ich liebe dich"in the opening phrase.
Excellent presentation - romantic in a good sense. Btw, Brahms was an agnostic and his "Deutsche Requiem" was in memory of his mother and Robert Schumann. He cearly stayed away from some of the text he did not believe in.
when I was a child, I knew this melody from Santana's "Love of my life", then I heard a song of Czyzykiewicz (Polish singer) "Aniol bezdomny" ("Homeless angel") and then I accidently heard this, I made a little inquiry and I found also "Baby alone in Babylon" :) I love all the versions!
Nice. I didn't know a thing about the chap except that my brother teased me in the car many years ago saying, "Why don't we listen to Brahms?" and I repeatedly refused because I wanted to listen to the William Tell Overture instead. I was about 8 at the time, and my musical tastes have matured. Now I like both! :P
great one ! which French Movies (writer: F. Sagan?) had this music piece ! that was 1960s..now 2012 , aaah , is it Love in the Afternoon? Recently I heard this over the Radio...afternoon..VERY MYSTERIOUS , subdued, haunting ....ok...love is haunting
Ever since I had Music Appreciation class last year, this was the song (I know there's a better term for it, but I can't think of it now) that stuck with me. I even kept the free discs that came with the textbook and listen to the same three tracks of Brahms Symphony No. 3.
@tasagaste THANK YOU! Amazing... I actually have the Kubelik recording on vinyl and was thinking the same when i heard it. It's not the same, but still close in a way...
Isn't it beautiful how some music reaches across the boundaries of culture, language, religion? My guess this happens because it reaches the core of what we, as human beings, all have in common. And if we were all a little more aware of that, all other boundaries would be useless.
I recommend the entire 3rd Symphony. It is my favorite piece of music, period, and is quintessentially Brahms. I find next to nothing to criticize about it.
it's the same for me. i heard this for the first time in a music appreciation class, and this, more than any other, was what i took away from the class.
@malakoffkowalski I've got a version by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik that sounds a lot like this. It's recorded in May 1983 and it's edited by Orfeo International Music GmbH. I'm sure it's not the same version, but it's probably the same musicians and conductor.
i would like to share a movie called 'song of love, 1947' with all of you who liked this.. someone mentioned this movie under other clip widmung. you see Brahms and Schumans and Listz, too. the entire film on youtube.

Sorry, cobrafarmer: The motto is "F-A-E" ("Frei aber einsam"), not "happy", "einsam" means "lonely, lonesome".
So beautiful!
I was lookin for this piece, I found it by chance yupeee
An excellent description!
Esta canción me puede hacer llorar, expresa algo muy profundo
Excellent presentation - romantic in a good sense.

Gotta love Romantic period music.

Three part song form (A B A) with coda. A and B sections are both also subdivided, but this is the basic outline.
