    The DOORSTOP! What a great idea for safety when you're on your own. I'm preparing myself to go to India and that is probably the best advice I've seen so far. Thanks for the video :) it was super helpful

    TRAVEL UPDATE:
    The 30 day India eVisa is now 60 day (UPDATED HERE: th-cam.com/video/uJcn8dQKZMA/w-d-xo.html).

    Hello. I am glad I came across your channel while researching the cave hotel in Turkey. I enjoy traveling and waiting for someone to travel with me I miss out on going to a lot of places. I am fearful of traveling alone. I hopefully can get over this fear and strike out on an international trip alone. Baby steps. I will not leave my state without a travel buddy. You got a new subbie and I have enjoyed watching a couple of videos already. Take care and continued safe travels.

    Hello hope your taking care of yourself. A question, I traveled to India in 2017 and my Visa as a tourist is for 10 years, I know it's not to stay straight 10 years there that I can go in and out of the country ,but I got confused when you talked about a 30 day Visa to go there, it means that everytime I want to go to India I need to inform it so they send me another special visa for specifically the days I'll be staying there?🙄 Be safe 🙏

    • @SarahWheeleeTravels
      @SarahWheeleeTravels 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes ebooks require batteries of which i'm always running out of or forgetting at home. and you can leave the other papers at the hotel. so its way lighter than the ebook.

    Hi, in India when you booked a hotel/hostel with a credit card, do they only use it to book a room and you can pay it by cash as you check in or do you have to pay it also with the credit card? Thank you

    Can I ask what is the brand of your voltage converter? I am trying to find a voltage converter to use US products in India but I am getting confused on what to buy. thank you!

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a Universal adapter. No voltage converter. India is 220v but many tech devices (aside from sensitive power hungry electronics (i.e. hairdryers, curling irons, irons, etc..) can take up to 220v. You have to read the voltage label.
      You can buy a voltage converter but it weighs like a brick. I've only bought one once and I blew it out on a blow dryer.

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, many U.S. tech devices take a standard of 110v but might go up to 220v if you check the label.

    Do you use the door stop to keep people from opening your door?

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Eliza the Cat Yes. India has very old lock systems and doors. They're probably more safe than hotel card keys, but I didn't know how cheap I'd go to stretch my budget on accommodations.

    where did you buy your unlocked phone with hotspot?

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vy Chi I upgraded my iPodTouch 4 of years to an iPhone5c for what it could do. I went directly thru the Apple store, although I researched cheaper alternate options and 3rd parties. The way I'll use my iPhone and the fact I travel a lot, I figure it will pay for itself, especially as I didn't want to be tethered to a mobile service provider in the U.S. (which in actuality costs more than buying a factory direct phone unlocked. So I considered this a long-term investment; I won't upgrade my phone anytime soon.
      You can get a cheaper "unlocked" iPhone/used on ebay, etc from a 3rd party dealer.. if you're willing to risk the confusion of folks claiming "unlocked" (but in reality, tethered T-mobile, Sprint,etc... phones) and issues of trust.
      There are cheap, no brand unlocked phones out there if you just want the ability to do SIM swapping when you visit different countries. More current mobiles do hotspots .. I know Apple does for certain. I would think Samsung and Android have marched up to that plate too.

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Miss Takes It certainly can feel hard at times. Due to the lack of hostels, meeting other travelers can be hard and India is so big, the tourist routes aren't nearly as trodden as SEAsia. This trip I traveled mostly alone and realized the key is -- befriend the good locals. Aside from shopowners, taxis, tour agencies, etc... many normal locals are wonderful about helping you gather your bearings and find your way around! I didn't feel lonely one bit.

      I saw a TH-cam video where 2 foreign men were in their hotel room doing some TH-cam prep at night when a hotel clerk just walked into their room WITHOUT knocking. They had been filming and talking about their day for their channel so they got The Whole thing on tape. The guy looked really surprised to realize someone was in the room. I guess he thought no one was there or something.
