I feel like "it's gacha" is enough to broadly explain why it would ruin the run, but it's neat to see the actual specifics on what runners are looking for.
@@GarlyleWilds thanks for the comment :) yeah i thought fans of the game would find it interesting to see whats actually useful in terms of speedrunning the game :D
The whole gacha system wouldn't be so bad if you could just resonate with as many blades as you have space for and use 20 core crystals at once. Having to do them 1 at a time is SOOOOO tedious even if I'm not trying to speedrun.
If they ever do a XC2 DE, they need to make some failsafes. Like for example after 10 unsuccessful tries, you're garranted to get a rare blade or something. Also, the items that increase chance to get a specific element of blade, could be changed to a simpler system. For example, when you want to try to open a core crystal, you can choose a normal, rare or legendary one, then the element you want. Outside of these QOL, I'd love it if all blades had 3 aux cores. I love Perun and her having only one is... Not fun at all. Especially since she's a C tier blade at best.
there is actually a "pity" system, where after a certain amount of cores is used you're guaranteed a rare based on your Pity Group (one of four determined at file creation), but unfortunately they all have a set combination of five blades and otherwise don't give any more rares (though they do change the odds of pulling other rare blades). It would be nice to have an updated pity system where after the initial pity group, a bunch of cores guarantees a rare (for the sake of alleviating KOS-MOS grinding in late/postgame).
How about just implementing the rare blades as side quest rewards? The whole gacha system really does feel like a side effect of XB2's allegedly rushed development anyways, it would be great if it was just axed entirely but it would probably affect a whole bunch of game systems.
@@mcdonkey500 I actually enjoy the randomness of it on a new playthrough. It only really comes a pain when you are trying to pull for specific ones, especially kosmos!
@@Mythrigon yup i like the randomness more than heroes system, cause they are all scripted to be x place vs you get this make it work. It keeps every play through interesting, currently played causally xenoblade 2 10 times so far, i just love the battle system. and always a shock to see streamer start and get the rarest blade near the very start of the game lol.
A four hour speed run with margins so tight that a minute time loss is a reset is a really rough thing. Although honestly I’m surprised there isn’t some pull that saves a huge quantity of time because of some overpowered jank.
@@viviblue7277 crossette and corvin are such a powerful combo that are garunteed pulls helps us alot! No DLC runs favour the powerhouse Wulfric! I may do a video covering some no dlc stuff someday. But also want to cover more xeno and other rpg speedrun stuff!
I feel like out of my 200 hours, at least a good 50 was waiting for menu animations and stuff, so basically dead time where you know exactly what you want to do but the game has to do its thing.
@@luketerimz3117 yeaah when the game was first released you had to watch every blade pull. This was fixed in a future update where you skip the awakening animation now! Xenonlade 2 menus are not the most responsive though!
@Mythrigon i knoooow ;_; didn't we also have to sit through the entire blade's voiceline when sending mercs over and over again? How does that make it into the release version lmao
The only thing that made me hate the gacha mechanic, was simply the fact that you can't easily change who gets what outside of just knowing the likelyhood of pulling each blade, and then pull with the character you want a blade on when their chance of pulling the right blade is the highest... And let's not forget that you can't dismiss a starting blade on a fresh savefile, so you can't have a full healer team on rex or a full tank team on Zeke, as you will always have a mandatory member from the characters initial role... So as someone who loves to play games in terrible ways, like making characters in Fire Emblem Three Houses use the classes they are worst suited for, or decide every dialogue choice in Baldur's Gate 3 with a dice roll, it really annoyed me that i had to play NG+ before getting full control over my build for every character in XC2...
I hate the gacha mechanics in this game. I would be fine with them if the common blades were gacha pulled but the Rare Blades were all acquired via sidequests. That way they would have been better integrated into the plot and the more powerful ones could even be missable, but the way they are implemented makes combat be either a huge chore or a breeze for early to mid game for no fault of the player.
I was snowed in for a whole week once while playing xc2. Spent probably 90% of that time just grinding for like 5 blades. I don't care what anyone says, the game was awful for that reason and that reason only,
good video overall, but for someone who didn't touch the game for around 5 years, or others who don't know anything about the game, it's kinda hard to get a feeling for the actual chance of a successful run. E.g. I would've liked if you showed us numbers while talking about the mastery requierements. Or how many blades are in the gacha pool? Can you use basic blades for mastery (litteraly can't remember if they can have these skills)? There's nothing wrong with making videos about specific topics and a specific audience, I just feel that the only takeaway from viewers outside of the xc2 speedrunning bubble will be "gacha bad".
Yeah common blades can be used for most of the field skills (I believe the ones they don't are specifically for quests involving the rare blades or can be covered by story-based ones). I'd imagine it's just convenient for speed running to be able to cover both a field skill and getting a really strong combat blade in the same pull because the animations take a long time.
