My Brother Inovis F420 arrived this afternoon. I already played with it. I had the Bernette B38, but I have to say, the Brother F420 triumphs. Furthermore, I am going to sell the Bernette B38, I never got in with that machine. It is such a different to sew with the Brother Inovis F420, so much nicer. Hi, Thanks for the question. As far as quality goes - they are both great quality. The F420 has a slightly larger work area, and more features than the A150. The fact that the F420 has more features is the reason that it will cost more. If you are going to be sewing larger items more frequently then the larger work area is also a great feature. Hi Jasmine, Yes you do need to match the needle to the fabric. With Faux leather you can use a Universal needle if it is firm faux leather - but I woud use a Microtex needle for a soft Faux Leather. With genuine leather, you need a Leather needle, as it has a blade that slits the fabric for easy needle penetration - and hence NO SKIPPED stitches. Use this needle only on genuine leather - as it will cut and damage other fabric. The Auto tension only detects the thickness of the fabric and adjusts tension for that - but the needle must definitely be matched to the fabric. Hi Michael, they are both very good machines. The F420 has more features, a slightly larger workspace, an organizer in its accessory tray, a knee lifter and features the Square Feed Drive system. Because of this it will cost more. Depending on what you are going to be sewing mostly will determine which machine will suit your needs best. Hi Claire, The FS210 is not imported into my country, but if you go onto the Brother Solutions center website in your country, you will be able to download a brochure and then do a complete comparison for yourself. The main difference that I can see is that: The F420 is a more advanced machine with AUTO tension, which means that you do not have to adjust tensions to suit the fabric you are working on. It has more features that can be automated. It has a facility to save your favourite settings. This is tremendously useful. All in all - in my opinion - if budget is not a consideration, and you are planning to do more advanced sewing projects, the F420 is a more advanced machine, and the one I would prefer to buy. Hi Kim, thanks for the question. The main differences between the A150 and F420 are as follows: The A150 has 150 built in stitches and the F420 has 180. The A150 has 4 lettering styles - the F420 has 5. The A150 has a clip on stitch guide plate that fits onto the carry handle of the machine. The F420 has a lift up front cover with the stitch selection displayed inside the cover. The A150 can stitch forward and backwards - the F420 can stitch forward, backwards and to the left and right too. Decorative stitches can therefore be staggered on the F420 instead of being stitched in a straight row as on the A150. The F420 has the MY CUSTOM STITCH function - so you can create your own unique stitch patterns using this function. The A150 does not have this. The F420 has an organiser tray inside the storage compartment on the accessory tray which stores the feet. The A150 only has the storage compartment without the tray. The F420 has a Knee Lifter - ideal for when you want to keep both hands on the fabric while the presser foot is lifted to change sewing direction - ideal for quilting and working on larger projects. Good morning. The F420 is the model above the A150 so it has more features than the A150. Brother have made different models, where as you go up in the range, extra features are added. This would also make them cost a little more. So, it is only more superior in that it has more features than the A150 - but they are all beautiful machines to work with and all of the basic features and functions are the same.

Yes you do need to match the needle to the fabric.
With Faux leather you can use a Universal needle if it is firm faux leather - but I woud use a Microtex needle for a soft Faux Leather.

Brother Innovis F420 vs a150 Sewing Machine which one is better?
