I got my Brother Inov-is F420 2 weeks ago and compared to my Bernette B38 this machine, this one is huge. I love the Brother one so much and can not stop sewing.

Hi Stephanie - it will certainly go through quilts easily with plenty of layers of fabric and wadding - the stitch length would always need lengthening though

Thankyou so much for this thouroughly well explained video on the workings of this machine Brother Inov'is F420! I bought this machine back in May this year just after the lockdown was lifted but unfortunately went into hospital so haven't yet fully discovered it's true ability! I did a lot of research before I made the decision to buy this one because I needed a machine that was up to more hefty work like handbags etc...so it was between either another Janome, a Juki or this Brother. I have recently been practising to really test it out...it really is a wonderful machine and I have absolutely no regrets and would highly recommend it! I looked at lots of demo videos here on YT for this machine but your demo has been by far the best and it's a shame that it wasn't available before in my case!...I feel I have to point out here that when you mentioned how much it retailed for I had to rewind that part as I couldn't believe how cheap this machine is in the UK...I live in France and even with the exchange rate between euros and livre sterling, it is still so much cheaper than here on the continent...why that should be I don't understand - I paid a whacking 775 euros!!! Your £599 works out to be 615€! Looking back, I had difficulty finding this model available due to the mask making surge so everywhere was out of stock for all sewing machines...so when I finally found one from a large outlet source, I had to pay for it...worth it though!
I have however had a bit of a problem with a noisy and 'loose' sounding bobbin shuttle which is only really noticeable at lower speed...I haven't yet taken off the needle plate etc to do a proper clean...do you have any ideas as to the cause of this? If so I'd appreciate your reply...it is still under it's 24 month guarantee but I really don't want to send it back to the seller if it's something small that I could do myself...thanks I advance if you can help with that one!

Hi and thanks for your comments - glad you are liking your machine. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what to suggest regarding the loose bobbin case - have you given it a clean? the back of the book with show you how to maintain and look after your machine - hopefully this will sort it - cheers Jo

    Very nice video thank you.
Could you please tell me if this machine is strong enough for thick projects as bags made with thick fabric + sometime for exemple thick things for protecting a tablet or a computer (I don't know the word for that in english...). I love my Brother FS-40 but it is too weak for me now
    Thank you.

It should do because of the box feed system, it's more powerful.

Thank you for your video. I am thinking of buying this machine. I do a lot of alternations for my daughter. Which is normally turning up jean hems. But I also want to get into quilt making again and after watching the sewing bee would love to start making clothes. My question really is would this machine go though really thick heavy denim or would it strain doing it? Thank you.

Hi Paul / thank you for your comments / it is quite a robust machine and will certainly go through 4 or 5 layers of think denim type fabrics / the main this would be to extend the stitch length and use a heavy or jeans needle appropriate to the fabric / if you’re local please pop in for a test drive - kind regards Jo

I had a choice between the Janome M200 or the Brother F420. I chose the Janome. The Brother has a far superior threading system and still hanker after this one!!🤷🏻‍♀️

It is a great machine - but so is the Janome M200 - hopefully you're enjoying that too

Calling it a dewberry very English
In convict Australia we colonials would call it a whatsie or doover.

Despite following the instruction booklet and watching the video I have yet to manage to automatically thread the needle. I have a Model 1 and have yet to find the Basting stitch. I do find the space between the lower body of the machine and the needle plate limited, getting the thread behind the needle bar is tricky and I have small hands. I am still learning to use this machine and find the online tuition rather limited compared to that available for Singer machine. Come on Brother you could do better!
