      @@michiganwoodsman2199 I've tried it all. I put deer scat under the scrape Dirt. I use mockscrape juice that comes with the dripper. Now I just always pee in it. I use ore orbital scents sometimes on some hemp string zip tied to my mock licking branch above the scrape.

    Lots of great info. We had a licking branch raise up after the leaves fell a years back. We thought it got broke off at first. Finally figured out what was going on.

    Hi Jake! Greg from Michigan also! I started making mock scrapes about 5 years ago. I have two sons who hunt with me. After making our scrapes I have all 3 of us pee in each one we make! We also do the same thing when pulling the SD cards and swapping them out each time! I think the deer just think it's 3 more different deer myself as its never stopped them coming. I set cameras up on each of our scrapes so we can determine the dates and times each deer have visited. I know these scrapes brings in many new deer watching our pics/short videos. I like to snap one picture and then record a 30 second video to see what they are doing and what direction they are all coming from and the times! My last video over one of my scrapes had several 8pts and a hand full of 6pts, a 5pt and spikes and plenty of does. A large tall 10 pt showed up one night that I never saw before with a 8pt. My youngest son had complained to me that he only saw does on his camera!😄. I told him actually that is a great thing! He questioned me and I explained that several of those doe will go into heat and that is when every buck in nose range will follow them to his scrape! Later in the weeks he started seeing things a few 6pts a 8pt sparing on camera with a 5pt. Some big boys that started out coming at night only at night. I'm saying 10 & 12 pts. Nice ones too! I told my son now it's time to get them to show up in the daytime! This is when I put a drip over the scrapes that is activated by the sun so it mainly drips in daytime hours. I explained to my son this will trigger the deer to slowly want to find these deer it's not seeing at night and they can tell how fresh the drip scent is and will start checking it downwind daily! I had a spot in Gladwin that I hung my treestand up over a mock scrap in hardwoods butted up to a wall of thin trees that the deer bedded in. Unknown to me I hung my pack up on the backside of my tree and my doe on heat cap wasn't secured! I started smelling a strong oder up in my tree that was getting stronger and stronger? I like reaching in one of the pockets to use my bleat call and drop it back into the pocket. All the sudden I hear a deer running from behind me to my right and it was either a doe or a young buck without visible horns. This deer ran past me and skids up in front and stops and then bolts right back the way it came! It did this 4 times as fast as could go?? Lol I was trying not to laugh as it was very odd! Then it ran back and was gone. I look to my right over the thick trees in front to see a nice buck standing on a little island out there with a one tree on it! Still smelling that smell as that deer left I went for my bleat and I hear one walking up behind me. I knew it was something larger and not a squirrel who would shuffle. This walked up behind my tree and I was facing away from it. After 10 minutes I was wondering what the heck is it doing not hearing anything? I very slowly turned to my right to try and see where it was behind me? I saw nothing to my right! I turned slowly to the left side and nothing? I stood and turn around to get a good look and nothing was there? I had no clue where or what was there as it almost sounded like a person as it crunched threw the leaves loudly right behind my tree! That baffled me???? I sat back down and then I can hear out into the thick small trees bucks fighting out front of me in the distance! I reached back into my backpack to grab my bleat call to sound it 3 times. That smell was getting crazy strong and I turned to smell My tree and as I smelled close to my pack It was where it was coming from! I pulled the pack to check it out and Holy Doe pee!!!! My bottle of doe in heat completely spilled in my pack! 🙈🙉😮. I thought great and just hung it back up as there was nothing I could do! Turning back around I decided to grab my bleat call from the pack again to call those bucks to me!' My mind was more on my doe in heat backpack and the wonderful smell up there so I didn't bother to look forward at the two bucks who came threw he trees watching me do this! 🤦 As I got the bleat out I hear SNORT! SNORT! and looked up to catch them both turn and run back in the thick small trees. 15 yard in front of me!! 😭 Climbing down to meet up with my boys I told them about my crazy night and the deer running back and forth, fighting, watching me! Thinking about all that now I'm wondering if that smell traveled 60 miles out ( joking) to all these bucks that probably thought they hit the hot doe jackpot!! 😂 The smell was so strong and it made for a wonderful sit smelling it for hours during my hunt! 🙊.I'm not really sure how a backpack covered in a full bottle of doe in heat played in all that fun, but I'm only guessing it did play some part! It's been two years that I skipped bow hunting, or any hunting and I set up my camera there a few days ago as I want to give this spot another round as it seemed pretty good! I saw the ground threw the ferns was litterd in deer poop everywhere! I can tell many looked like buck as its larger piles along with the pellet poop does usually drop there too! I'm not checking the camera for a week! I'm hoping to see all my friends from two years ago now bigger and maybe more of their friends as I don't remember seeing so many droppings like I saw this year! Oh and if anyone wants to try soaking your backpack with doe in heat hoping for the same wild circus I saw. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! 😂. I told my sons walking out to keep a eye out for bucks as I'm probably gonna get killed smelling like a Doe Whore House walking back out to the truck at night! I know many hunter have got attacked accidentally putting doe in heat on them! Yes I was actually very nervous on my half mile track out! I'm sure the laundry mat I took my pack to wash would not have been happy if they knew I was washing it there also! It was a expensive brand new pack from Cabela's so I still wanted it. After two hard washes it came out fine and the wash machine didn't smell thank God! 😅.
    Greg Michigan 😎 🤙

      Memories! If there is one thing to add that these mock scrapes provide, it is those core memories in the deer woods with hunts like you just described. Thank you for sharing that experience, it was a nice read to start the day. Let's hope you have more stories to share from your time in the woods this fall!

    Live in Maine and a couple years ago I tried a licking branch and got deer walking by, and a few checked it out but nothing crazy. I cleared the leaves out to bare dirt, even peed in it a few times, I used a vine and thought I did something wrong. Then in a field up the road that often has 10+ deer in it in the summer I started noticing a few deer rubbing their antlers or head on a pine or spruce branch, over the summer I saw a few small bucks , even a fawn on its hind legs trying to get to it. So I'm thinking maybe in this area deer use spruce/pine as licking branches and the vine doesn't work? I have noticed over the years around here some bucks like rubbing pine trees with their antlers and some like hard woods with their antlers. A few years back their was a very nice buck that would only run hard woods. And the whole pee myth, after 20-30 mins deer can't tell the difference between human urine and deer urine, they just know it's urine, I've watched scientific videos on the pee issue.

    Great video!! Do you put any kind of special scent on the limp itself?

    • @whitetailpartners4624
      @whitetailpartners4624  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Each situation is different, but when it calls for it we will implement some type of scent.
      A great example would be setting up a mock scrape in a travel corridor next to doe bedding during the pre-rut and into the rut. A situation like this when a traveling buck would be searching for a doe could be a great opportunity to add in some doe estrus scent.

    Is there a best time of year to make the mock scrapes? I’m assuming you want to establish them early on in the hunting season but can you make them in early November and still have them be effective? Thanks in advance!

    • @whitetailpartners4624
      @whitetailpartners4624  ปีที่แล้ว

      They can be effective when you make them later in the year. We will often establish new mock scrapes in the winter/spring to get the deer acclimated to them for the upcoming season!
