I hunt public land so can't do the water hole. But I'll still cut down a vine and hang mock scrapes on public land and hang cameras. They work wonders when you find honey holes away from hunting pressure.
Just so you know... I'm Hooked! Even liked all comments on this one so far. Cut openings today in tall timber open woods area today, put down another area in switch and sprayed with simazine out in last year's soybeans for some screening, and got a stand taken down for some noise reduction therapy...going to weld some joints on a ladderstand with a squeak.. Busy all day today up at the farm was good day, and my cousin found super awsome spearpoint about 4" long !
I have been using Jeffs mock scrape techniques for a few years now, the success when placed properly is no joke. Year-round activity. Have had black bear hit it, bob cats, coyotes, and of course monster bucks/deer. Bucks that a lot of ppl don't believe there is deer thar size on public land lol
Not sure I agree with fresher vines better!! Jeff often talks about moving a vine from one location to another due to it having all the natural scent on it already!!! I did find that freshening up the scape under to increase more activity at times! But I never replace vine until it breaks which the 1” varieties have lasted up the 8 years
When we lost the ability to use attraction I started with a true scrape and have since developed plenty of mock scrapes !! What a great camera location!!!
If you create a great bedding area, does that mean you should expect deer to bed in it during most of the daylight hours? I would assume they go to different bedding areas during the daytime, but I'm new to all of this.
I spent 8 hours shed hunting and pulled over 100 tics off of me during that time and more after I got home. They are brutal in the Adirondacks of Ny. Yes I used tic spray.. The spring time is always the worst.
Im thinking about ground surface mulching popple trees in between pockets of pine trees, should I mow them down every year or 2 after initial mulching?
Quick question from a two videos ago Have last years plot with brassicas and over seed with rye can I plant clover into it this spring with out spraying
Hi Ryan! In northern areas I love white pine and white spruce...both can grow in complete shade so they are very good choices. Norway spruce and other pines need full sun...so not a great choice for in the woods!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thank you Jeff! I’ve started to implement your techniques on my hunting property and can’t wait to see the results this fall!!
Are there certain regions/states specifically TN that deer don’t use or make year around scrapes? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. A lot or rut scrapes though
CONFUSED!!! I have been using your Grapevine mock scrapes for 2 years and they are very effective. I found a scrape while scouting in March. On May 28th I put the GVMS out over the scrape with a trail camera over it looking for a big buck from the previous season. On June 4th he showed up with several smaller bucks. Does and smaller Bucks were hitting the GV, but he got close, realized he didn’t like something, turned around, left and did not return. I pulled the card July 10th. It was super dry between 5/28 and 6/4 so our scent was not washed away. Should I remove the GV, spray it with some ozonated water, leave it alone? I’m confused. I know we are 3 months out but this is a 4.5 or 5.5 year old buck and I don’t want to push him out.

There is nothing better in my opinion at stand location! You the man
Thanks Drew ..so much fun!

Love to hear your mind at work. Thanks Jeff good stuff

Was just out on my land two weeks ago. My mocks scrapes were still being hit hard. Was fun to see
So cool to see Mike!
Got a mock scrape that has been in use for 8 yrs now and still going strong replaced the vine 3 times
Great information! Just what I've been waiting for. Have a couple spots that I'm going to put mock scrapes and water holes at.
Nice...that sounds great! Enjoy the entire process...
Thanks Jeff!
You are very welcome Isaac!
I think I have to put up new vines in some of my spots.Seems like the fresher, the better. But in the same good spots😉

Vine scrapes rock !
Amen to that!
Good tip I will add a couple at my stand locations this month way easier to hang when there isn’t a million bugs biting!
Thanks Darren enjoy them!

Crazy! Our worst time too...

Hi Keith! Every 5 to 7 years and make sure that you get sunlight to the mulching and that you don't mulch the ground at all...just the trees

You can...but you need to mow or spray the rye out to kill it.
Just set a mock scrape yesterday afternoon and had deer hitting it before daylight this morning
So dang cool! And no surprise 😊 Enjoy them!
How often should you replace a mock scrape?
I replace them when they break...typically every 2 to 4 years?
What type of conifer should you plant in hinge cut bedding areas? I know you reference white pine and spruce a lot…thanks!!

How would you set up a licking branch on public land trees that don't have any lower branches to tie off on.

How does one determine a bedding area versus staging area?
Evening is closer to major food and morning is on the backside or between bedding areas.
Ended up with 59 sheds,12 matched sets,135 miles of walking😫
Dang D!! Wow! Very impressive!!
That's awesome 👍🏻👍🏻
Holy crap!
What a pile!
