    I like how in the last video everyone was like “Who the hell could beat Roger Staubach as greatest Cowboy?” and then when it was revealed to be Coach Landry everyone in this video was like “Ok yeah, that makes total sense. Of course it’s Coach Landry, he pretty much crafted the Cowboys into the franchise they are now.” Once his name was dropped it all made sense to everyone.

    Jimmy Johnson was a great coach and was missed in Dallas, but lets not forget his failure in Miami, after leaving Dallas. Coach Landry did it for 29 years and had 20 straight winning seasons.

      No coach catches lighting in a bottle with two different teams. Yes, there have been some that coached two different teams in the Super Bowl, but they were flare ups.

      True, but how many losing seasons before and after that streak? It took him a while to become a winner. Just like Tom, Jimmy may have turned things around, but it takes time, especially in 90s NFL vs the 60s with half the league still non existent.

    I can kind of see Mike Rhyner's perspective, because Jimmy built such a powerhouse team. But it's often easy to forget that Jimmy had little success as the Dolphin head coach. Landry had 20 winning seasons, while Jimmy had 6, with 3 being in Dallas. Both won 2 Super Bowls. Landry get the edge, for longevity and innovation.

      @@bertmustin I don't think so. Jerry Jones is not a gentleman. His teams are full of human filth who beat up their mothers. The quality of the Cowboys dropped dramatically when Jones came in. The record shows that Clint Murchison's teams were more successful on and off of the field. Jones has been a loser for decades while Landry was a winner for decades.

      The Cowboys were 4-4 against the Rams in postseason play during the Landry era. The eight games were the most matchups against a particular team in postseason play as well as both the four wins and the four losses. The 49ers and the Vikings with four playoff matchups each against the Landry-era Cowboys, tied for a distant second place.

    Tom Landry played and coached for NY Giants. He was a great player but the HC of Giants realized he was a great coach too. As a result Landry became a player/coach. Finally he was made DC and he invented the 4-3 defense. Therefore he is one of the top coaches and players for the Giants.

    To me, Tom Landry will always be the face of the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones? Forget it. They shouldn't call A T & T Stadium "Jerry World". They should call it "Jonestown" in recognition of the only owner in NFL history to fire the head coach after he had just led the team to a 2nd consecutive Super Bowl title; resulting in a massacre of a rapidly-developing dynasty. Thank God immeasurably that Jerry Jerk didn't own the Cowboys back in the early 1960s.

    The way he was fired, it was low. It would have been like if the Spurs fired Gregg Poppovich. It doesn't matter that Pop has had a few losing seasons, he is the Spurs, before him, well in most fans' minds they weren't. If the Spurs fired Pop, Tim Duncan probably would shoot down his retired jersey and burn it in protest. And most fans might riot.

    Romo should NOT even be on the list. I was 7 in late 1975 when we moved to Plano, which is 25 min from Dallas, and my pop warner coach in 1977 was friends with Staubach and I've been a fan ever since, even though I've been in SO CA now for 40 yrs. Texas is all baseball and football and the Cowboys "I Feel" lost their way after Aikman. Romo is the "what could have been" but it didn't happen, and partly IMO it's because he's a hot shot athlete but not an all-pro football player. His leadership skills were questionable and during his time there were way too many hot doggers. The great Dallas teams were just that, "Teams", and since we have had tons of talent but no one to really lead it, and having Jerry Jones as the owner doesn't help it!!!

    • @finchborat
      @finchborat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I argue that Romo is my generation's version of Danny White, only he never could make it past the Divisional Round and has fewer playoff wins than White.

      @cowboysfan
      I totally agree with you
      about Romo. As everyone knows, Romo
      was a pretty fair passer, but an at-best average QB.
      It used to be that the QB was generally the best athlete on the team. Who can honestly say that about
      Romo? Absolutely no one. For his entire career, with the exception of a few offensive linemen, Romo was the slowest runner on the team.
      Romo could throw the ball some..... but his
      (and Garrett's) pass-as-often-as-possible game-plans, and
      Romo's propensity to throw INTs in big games..... especially in the 3 or 4 playoff games Romo participated in...... keeps Romo off of any kind of greatest Cowboys list, or even a
      greatest Cowboys QBs list for that matter.🏈

      Obviously you are a new Cowboys fan, and never had the opportunity to actually watch Danny White play.
      As everyone knows, White was a great QB, and an outstanding athlete, and left a pretty-fair legacy in the
      history of the Dallas Cowboys.
      Romo.... not so much.🏈

      Had he not choked so much, made deeper playoff runs, and maybe make a Super Bowl or two, he would be higher. He's basically my generation's version of Danny White, only he never made it past the Divisional Round.

    Was half the stuff that Skip Bayless wrote about Landry in "God's Coach" true? (That Landry was senile, that he kept coaching because he had to bail out Tom Jr. when the son almost lost his shirt speculating in new oil wells that turned out to be dry? That he kept an unnecessary distance spiritually from his players?)

    • @TheLocalLt
      @TheLocalLt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John Laszek the last part is true of most all time great coaches. Belichick Lombardi Landry Noll Walsh etc. the other part is probably true but Tom Sr sort of earned the right to do that given his SB cache, however it was a bad look because the team was losing $1m per month, and Landry was absolutely a huge reason why, from his senility (watch his 1993 interview with Charlie Rose), to his semi-corrupt hold on the job despite no longer really being qualified for it. But in the grand scheme of things it’s a blip on landry’s career and thankfully jerruh took the heat off Tom by firing him and making Jerry the controversial figure instead
