Harland Svare was fired and Tommy Prothro started building the team that Don Coryell swooped in and finished as Air Coryell. Prothro and the new look arrived at the same time. I grew up with the dark blue Chargers unis, and I was a Chargers fan, but I did remember the prior look, and I'm glad it's back - but both deserve the love they get.
The Chargers' royal blue and gold uniforms from 1974-84 were cool, I never did like the navy blue that they started wearing in 1985, and I am so glad they finally returned to the sky blue, white, and gold more recently.
Notice how every team finds an excuse to add black to their color scheme? Even teams like the 9ers and Jets who historically never had black. They are trying to match that iconic Raider's uniform.

I'm gonna be honest with you, there is no way Chris Collinsworth did get high everyday of his career. Every time I see old footage of him, he looks baked.
The only team I can think of that actually made an improvement when it changed its uniforms was the Bengals, when they adopted the tiger stripes. ( I still like the old orange BENGALS helmet for nostalgia, but the stripes were better.) The Oilers uniforms of the early 70s - slightly greenish blue jerseys and the bluish silver helmets with blue and red trim - are vastly underrated. The Cowboys dark jerseys may have been "unlucky," but they were sharp. (The Cowboys' uniform changes have been subtle, but noticeable. The classic Cowboy dark jersey was royal blue, NOT navy as it has been for the past 25 years and the numbers were white, NOT silver and no outlining. Also, the helmets didn't used to be silver, they were blue-grey.) The Lions jersey, from the advent of the Honolulu blue in the early 70s through the Matthew Stafford era (not to blame Matthew, not his fault) was fantastic but is now royally F-ed up. Logo placement on helmet, striping, all disastrous. Seattle came out of the gate in 1976 with a great-looking, blue-green-silver color scheme; the more recent teal and tennis-ball green is horrible, though. I must give some love to the St. Louis Cardinals uniforms. Great color, great striping and the Cardinal logo on the helmet was classic. Those uniforms got screwed up after the team moved to the desert. First, they added some kind of funky rainbow clutter on the sleeves and in the 2000s, they replaced the Cardinal logo with a similar but more cartoonish-looking bird, which was re-positioned on the helmet. . . . .I can't believe I got so verbose about this subject. I could say more, but. . .sorry.
The old-school Oilers had GREAT uniforms. Not only the color scheme but that oil derrick logo on the white helmet was nice. Kind of a shame that it evolved into the Flaming Thumbtack, although I do like the combination of light and dark blue that the Titans have

It’s always been interesting to me that the Cowboys’ white and color uniforms have different shades of blue and silver from each other, with the colored uniforms having a different, darker shade of blue and silver compared to the white jersey. I’m not sure if any other team is like that.

In terms of modern additions to this list, as much as I love the mid 2000s uniforms, the modern Seahawks kits are a thing of beauty. Best of the Nike ones. Also the green jerseys are a classic. Loved those as a kid
I live in Arizona so I follow the Cardinals. Still they're the Cardinals - not the black birds so it seems heretic for the to wear anything other than red. And their best outfit was when they moved here from St. Louis in 1988.
As for those cheerleading outfits, the one I really like was the one the Jags’ squad originally wore: animal print. That was hot... obviously, I love the Cowboys’ uniform, but the Oilers’ one was nice and so is the Saints’ 👍
The Jags cheerleaders should return to the animal print: at this time, it would provide a welcome distraction from Jacksonville's sorry excuse for a football team.

Some of the uniforms on my extended list are: * The purple, gold and white of the Portsmouth Spartans (NB: the team moved to Detroit and were rebranded the Lions in 1934). * The big blue of the Giants. * The Rams' royal blue and gold (especially when based in Los Angeles). * The Broncos' Orange Crush. * The Falcons' classic look. * The Pat Patriot (yes, he was ready to play). * The Houston Oilers in the 1970s and 1980s. * The Buffalo Bills in the 1960s and 1970s. * Anything the Eagles had with the kelly green. * The Packers' home uniforms. * The green and white of the New York Jets (since 1963 - and the 1960-1962 Titans light blue and gold wasn't too bad). * Anything from the Baltimore Colts/Ravens (special points for the Ravens' all-black uniforms, which I believe were lights out). * Anything blue, silver and white (there's a long history here). * The Steelers' black and gold (except the bumblebee throwback - I can see why Art Rooney dumped this after a year). * Cowboys and Raiders cheerleaders (the football team took their uniform design from the Cowgirls and Raiderettes, come on). I have pee-wee and other cheerleaders' uniforms as an honorable mention, and the expansion Bucs' uniform loses too many points for the winking pirate (its design was awful) to qualify on my list.
Love the Powder Blues of the 60's-70's Chargers that had the White helmets with the Lightning bolt and the number on the helmet. Also a big fan of the old time Patriot Minuteman, "Pat Patriot" hiking the football on the helmets of the NE Patriots until 1991. They never should went away from Pat Patriot, he is awesome. Oh, and the best cheerleader uniforms by far, belong to the Oakland Raiders. Nobody else is even close.
The Bill Parcells era home uniforms of the New York Giants were the best looking uniforms in NFL history, hands down. Totally clean, and it's hard to go wrong with red, white and blue.
Only question is "NY" or "Giants" on the side of the helmet like in Tuna's era? I'm more partial to the NY as they had recent success during Eli's years in addition to the Gifford/Huff/Conerly/Tittle/Shofner teams of the 50s and 60s and even the Fran Tarkenton/Homer Jones/Ron Johnson years.
1994 had so many throwback uniforms. Pat patriot, the pittsburgh pirates, powder blue, packers blue and yellow, bengals without stripes, oilers, old bills, flashy 49ers, 50s rams,
no, no AND NO! The Raiders not being #1 is a travesty and the Vikings not even being an honourable mention is a travesty. As far as I'm concerned, this is the top 5: 1) Raiders 2) Chargers powder blue 3) Cowboys 4) Vikings 5) Niners And while I'm on the topic of teams that got screwed, the Saints' colour scheme is far cooler than some of the teams on this list and probably belongs in the top 10
Honestly, I'd keep the current color scheme, but go back to the old "D" logo on the helmets and 80s uniform design full-time. I've never liked that gawd-awful swoosh uniform that Nike designed, and the Bronco head emblem is far too much a product of its time. Seriously, the Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks, etc.--they look soooo much better with their throwback designs. They're much cleaner, the emblems are more sophisticated, and don't look like some color-blind middle-schooler designed them with MS Paint.
My personal top ten in no particular order: -blue and yellow Rams, particularly ‘90s -1997-2002 Falcons, with the red numbers and socks on the road unis -Panthers with black jerseys, black pants, and blue socks. So vibrant. Becomes so crappy when they wear black socks instead. -ANY Colts -Dolphins, from whenever they added aqua face masks and the sleeve logo, until their logo change in 1997 -Bears’ throwbacks with plain dark blue helmets, dark blue jerseys, orange numbers, white pants, and striped socks -current Giants -2020 Chargers -‘80s Broncos -Super Bowl-era Buccaneers I’m a uniform nerd, so if you asked me tomorrow some of these answers would probably be different.
The Colts' uniforms are the easiest on the eye of any team. Appealing mid-shade of blue, but not so juiced up as the Chargers or the Broncos. The Colts unis say, we look good, but we're not here to make a fashion statement. The statement is our play on the field.
I agree the #1 should definitely be the chargers and their powder blue. But why did Philly ever change from the beautiful Kelly green to that awful dark green they wear now?
Actually, the year the Rams won the Super Bowl was supposed to be their first year in the new uniforms. Somehow or another they missed a deadline and so they were delayed by a season.
Best Eagles uniforms where in the early 70's with the white helmets which had green wings - especially in 74 when the wings had a black outline. The black trim around the numbers was great - only problem was that they wore white at home which wasn't as good looking as the green jerseys
Bengals and 49ers my favorites. Charger powder blue is pretty slick also. Funny how that OTHER San Diego team (in the 70's) had what were considered the WORST unis.
Although I think that the orange pants with the brown jerseys was a bit to much, on balance that's was their best overall combination. There was also one subtle difference that made the white jerseys way better than later versions. That was that there was as white line separating the brown and orange on the sleeve stripes. Big difference.

Maybe it's me but NFL Uniforms have declined in classic style starting with the 1995 Pro Bowl.

As for those cheerleading outfits, the one I really like was the one the Jags’ squad originally wore: animal print. That was hot... obviously, I love the Cowboys’ uniform, but the Oilers’ one was nice and so is the Saints’ 👍

* The purple, gold and white of the Portsmouth Spartans (NB: the team moved to Detroit and were rebranded the Lions in 1934).
* The big blue of the Giants.
* The Rams' royal blue and gold (especially when based in Los Angeles).
* The Broncos' Orange Crush.
* The Falcons' classic look.
* The Pat Patriot (yes, he was ready to play).
* The Houston Oilers in the 1970s and 1980s.
* The Buffalo Bills in the 1960s and 1970s.
* Anything the Eagles had with the kelly green.
* The Packers' home uniforms.
* The green and white of the New York Jets (since 1963 - and the 1960-1962 Titans light blue and gold wasn't too bad).
* Anything from the Baltimore Colts/Ravens (special points for the Ravens' all-black uniforms, which I believe were lights out).
* Anything blue, silver and white (there's a long history here).
* The Steelers' black and gold (except the bumblebee throwback - I can see why Art Rooney dumped this after a year).
* Cowboys and Raiders cheerleaders (the football team took their uniform design from the Cowgirls and Raiderettes, come on).
I have pee-wee and other cheerleaders' uniforms as an honorable mention, and the expansion Bucs' uniform loses too many points for the winking pirate (its design was awful) to qualify on my list.

Love the Powder Blues of the 60's-70's Chargers that had the White helmets with the Lightning bolt and the number on the helmet. Also a big fan of the old time Patriot Minuteman, "Pat Patriot" hiking the football on the helmets of the NE Patriots until 1991. They never should went away from Pat Patriot, he is awesome. Oh, and the best cheerleader uniforms by far, belong to the Oakland Raiders. Nobody else is even close.
The Bill Parcells era home uniforms of the New York Giants were the best looking uniforms in NFL history, hands down. Totally clean, and it's hard to go wrong with red, white and blue.
Only question is "NY" or "Giants" on the side of the helmet like in Tuna's era? I'm more partial to the NY as they had recent success during Eli's years in addition to the Gifford/Huff/Conerly/Tittle/Shofner teams of the 50s and 60s and even the Fran Tarkenton/Homer Jones/Ron Johnson years.
Parcells era Giants had a good uniform, and I also like the Jets uniforms in the early 80’s too.

no, no AND NO! The Raiders not being #1 is a travesty and the Vikings not even being an honourable mention is a travesty. As far as I'm concerned, this is the top 5: 1) Raiders 2) Chargers powder blue 3) Cowboys 4) Vikings 5) Niners
And while I'm on the topic of teams that got screwed, the Saints' colour scheme is far cooler than some of the teams on this list and probably belongs in the top 10
My favorite uniforms are the old Broncos Orange Crush jerseys. They just have a certain charm to them.
Honestly, I'd keep the current color scheme, but go back to the old "D" logo on the helmets and 80s uniform design full-time. I've never liked that gawd-awful swoosh uniform that Nike designed, and the Bronco head emblem is far too much a product of its time.
Seriously, the Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks, etc.--they look soooo much better with their throwback designs. They're much cleaner, the emblems are more sophisticated, and don't look like some color-blind middle-schooler designed them with MS Paint.
My personal top ten in no particular order:
-blue and yellow Rams, particularly ‘90s
-1997-2002 Falcons, with the red numbers and socks on the road unis
-Panthers with black jerseys, black pants, and blue socks. So vibrant. Becomes so crappy when they wear black socks instead.
-ANY Colts
-Dolphins, from whenever they added aqua face masks and the sleeve logo, until their logo change in 1997
-Bears’ throwbacks with plain dark blue helmets, dark blue jerseys, orange numbers, white pants, and striped socks
-current Giants
-2020 Chargers
-‘80s Broncos
-Super Bowl-era Buccaneers

Oilers were Columbia Blue, not Powder Blue.
The Colts' uniforms are the easiest on the eye of any team. Appealing mid-shade of blue, but not so juiced up as the Chargers or the Broncos. The Colts unis say, we look good, but we're not here to make a fashion statement. The statement is our play on the field.

Actually, the year the Rams won the Super Bowl was supposed to be their first year in the new uniforms. Somehow or another they missed a deadline and so they were delayed by a season.
I thought the navy and actual gold was part of being around y2k thing. Later I was told it was to sell the throwback blue and mustard gold jersey's.

Best Eagles uniforms where in the early 70's with the white helmets which had green wings - especially in 74 when the wings had a black outline. The black trim around the numbers was great - only problem was that they wore white at home which wasn't as good looking as the green jerseys

Bengals and 49ers my favorites. Charger powder blue is pretty slick also. Funny how that OTHER San Diego team (in the 70's) had what were considered the WORST unis.
Sipe Era Browns Uniforms were the best
Although I think that the orange pants with the brown jerseys was a bit to much, on balance that's was their best overall combination.
There was also one subtle difference that made the white jerseys way better than later versions. That was that there was as white line separating the brown and orange on the sleeve stripes. Big difference.
It's a shame the Raiders are not #1 on the list. There is no color combination more badass then Silver and Black!
