    On August 11th, 1950, 71 boy soldiers of the South Korean army singlehandedly held back the elite North Korean 766 Commando Brigade for a full 11 hours. Most were still in their school uniforms and had only fired a single bullet in training!
    Their astonishing bravery under fire enabled allied forces to hold a strategic bridgehead at the Nakdong River and gain a tactical advantage that would help turn the tide of the entire war. Nothing less than the freedom of their nation was at stake.
    Their ingenuity, tenacity and brotherhood helped them to achieve the impossible. This is their remarkable true story... Now, discover one of the greatest events in modern military history and re-live the day when courage came of age.

    I got to see the memorial and some of the actual school ground they fought in while I was stationed in Korea. Incredibly brave those students were. Looking at the ground around the school, once they made the choice to stand and fight, it is clear there is no way they would come out of that. Those that did not die in the fighting were executed in the yard. Salute to them.

      You call them "Heroes". And they are... but also, they are victims of imperialism (China, Russia, the US). Say what you will, but the fact is that Korea was divided after Japanese imperialism (occupation), and they are still divided due to external influences.
      China will not let North Korea get absorbed by South Korea while SK remains a democracy. The US army will remain in SK while China and Russia remains antagonistic and anti-demoracy.

    True fact what happened in the battle of pohang girls'middle school in 1950: at the early months of the Korean war, North Korean amry with tanks and overwhelming fire power Broke South Korean army defenses. South Korean army had to retreated and set last defense line near Nakdong river, north side of Gyeongsang province. Since South Korean Army did not have enough men to cover all the line, they tried to mobilize students under the age 18 to use them as reinforcements. But South Korean Army officers changed their mind at the end because volunteers were too young to fight. So they tried to disaband students who volunteered to fight for their homes and country, but 71 volunteers refused to go home. So South Korean Army deployed them at the back of Pohang. When North Korean Army started the final attack to Nakdong river front, South Korean regular troops of Pohang was completely destroyed by North Korean Blitzkrieg. North Korea Army attempted to break through there and surround the back of South Korean Army main forces. But there were still 71 student volunteers remaining at Pohang, they opened trenches at Pohang girls' middle school and waited for North Korean army coming. North Korean troops attacked them and tried to make them retreat. But rather than retreat, they repelled their attack by rifles. After several combats, student volunteers retreated from the school eventually. North korean soldiers were well-equipped, and student volunteers didn't have enough weapons even. But they delayed North Korean tanks and troops advance almost 12hours so South Korean regular army bought valuable time to regroup the forces and counterattack. (Sadly, we can never know their names because 48 of 71 volunteers died there.)

      Hmmm... The historical account put UN forces numbering equal to or greater than KPA by july 20 1950. Also to prevent weakened defense of airfields, supply lines, major roads the UN forces left areas undefended that were protected by rough terrain making those areas easy to retake by deployable forces nearby and difficult for KPA to hold and reinforce because of the rough terrain. The area around the middle school being such a location so I don't know how valid it is to say they slowed down tanks. 30,000 South Korean children were conscripted during the war and estimated 3,000 died. The importance of the 71 childrens defense of the school is over exagerated and maybe even an attempt to excuse the use since the propaganda narrative is that they were so important to the outcome. The KPA had a struggling supply line and troops were exausted from prolonged battle by this time while the United nation forces had just started entering the country in mass with fresh troops and had secured their supply lines. The battle of Pohang was the turning point in favor of South korea during the war who had been losing ground prior. Conscription of children is a war crime and shouldn't be glorified. No matter how heroic the children were it is still a shameful stain on South Koreas military leaders during the war.

    • @Joseph-ng6gh
      @Joseph-ng6gh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@hamzamian6048 I understand your opinion, but what 71 students did in the battle of Pohang was not in vain because ROK forces never abandoned Pohang area. Massive UN forces did arrive to korea then but they couldn't deploy their forces enough until the battle of Pohang. So, actually, 3rd ROK Division that tried to defend Pohang area was completely flanked and shattered by 5th KPA division and 12nd KPA division at first(even the division HQ was struggled into fight.). Although KPA forces were weakened and they would be repeled by UN forces eventually, KPA forces that advandced to the right flank of 3rd division's main forces could strike them still. 3rd division would be destryed if 71 studedents just ran away. And plus, in almost cases, ROK never forced children to fight, they chose to fight on their will. I think that's not a war crime. If you think it is, i have nothing to say.

    Young students to save the country.

      Usually the person in the defend postion usually have a better advantage than the attackers. That's why a couple of guys can defend one postion and kill hundreds but really the moral answer to that is it depends. You could refer to a invasion like D-Day or look at what i think is was Rourke's drift. In D-day (specifically Omaha) you are landing on a beach sea sick and all of a sudden everyman left and right of you was dying. While on Rourke's drift you are defending against a what seems infinite amount of zulus who have just recently decimated a more secure outpost. So in all it really depends on the build up and casualties you take in the first second.

    For movies made in Asia this was one of the better looking ones with the effects, and it was mostly accurate

    • @dannnsss8034
      @dannnsss8034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Movies in Asia vary vastly in quality and shouldn't be grouped as a giant entity.
      E.g. The Chinese ones are mostly for CCP propaganda (so are not based on facts, but distortions of history to fit their narrative), have huge budgets, and paint the enemy as war mongering blood thirsty Americans (!), where the Chinese must be victorious against these 'animals'.
      The South Korean ones are independent (small budget) and usually based on real events. The enemies can be North Koreans, who are painted as basically determined people of the other side, who cannot give up or else. etc.
      The Japanese don't really make war movies, they don't want to remember that for obvious reasons... or emphasise the suffering of the Japanese during WW2.

    30-06 Garand. Korean vets would say in wave attacks you could see the rounds penetrate 3 or 4 North Korean or Chinese bodies before dropping off. They may have been almost obsolete but they were still very effective.

    • @LtApples101
      @LtApples101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is. The mosin nagant was actually a terrible gun, even for its time as it was a rugged mass produced gun and the Russians just wanted to make rifles and didn’t care about quality. Only reason why it’s popular today is because people are obsessed with WW2 guns. In fact, Kalashnikov invented the AK because he overheard Soviet soldiers complaining about their rifles, and wanted to create a better gun.

    This battle is a real battle in Korea where young boys aged 16 or 17 were killed in a fight during the Korean War, and it is a heartbreaking history for Koreans, but it is heartbreaking for foreigners to laugh in a caricature. From their point of view, korean're not laughing and playing with Normandy landings and Pearl Harbor air raid
