I love the chain of command scene in this video. You can see how the lieutenant gets orders from his superiors and then gives those orders to the platoon sgts and squad leaders. Extremely realistic
The German uniforms were beautiful, and a lot of people are pointing that out. But what's even more fascinating is that you can tell who was in the Heer longer depending on which uniform they were wearing. For example, a lot of the Wehrmacht soldiers, including Friedhelm, are wearing M40's & M42 uniforms, which means they probably enlisted/were conscripted to fight in Operation Barbarossa & the Eastern Front. Wilhelm however is wearing an M36 uniform, which means he was in the Wehrmacht years before the war even began, and probably saw action in Poland or France. Hence why he's significantly more restrained than the average trigger happy soldier, but actually sees his men beyond cannon fodder for an objective.
The lieutenant demonstrated efficient leadership skills when he disallowed his men from executing prisoners of war, even though, he suffered casualties. That is a true soldier and commander.

I think not having subtitles makes it more interesting. In movies I’m so use to just seen endless German soldiers being mowed down and then always shouting ‘actung!’ “Sprengelegen!” ‘Schnell’ to the point they are stereotyped. Having no subtitles and being able to watch the acting direct the situation gives you the perspective a Russian/British person would have being captured.
There needs to be more axis movies for historical reasons. People need to learn that tragedy involved both side. Although the axis reasons for war were not honorable it involved young people who died fighting for their county and believes.
The Wehrmacht was responsible for countless war crimes and they ultimately played a role in the final solution... it’s true there were honorable men but the main motive was extremely problematic

Fascinating video and much appreciate the upload! Most of my relatives at the time was in combat in the East for the Wehrmacht during WW2. My Grandfather was in the 6th army 44th infantry division and saw action in Poland, France and Kharkov. He was later captured along with thousands of men at Stalingrad. Ultimately he lost 80 pounds of body weight moving around different Russian labour camps before finally returning home to Germany in the mid 1950s and lived a long peaceful life. His younger brother started off the war in the East as part of the 439th Regiment of the 134th Division and was at the battle of Moscow then later he was one of 9 survivors out of 1,000 men in his regiment to die in the battle of Kursk where he was injured. He survived the end of the war as part of the 512th heavy tank destroyer battalion as a loader for the Jagdtiger when he surrendered to the Americans by the end of the war in May 1945.

I just saw this movie and I already forgot the name. Its based on a true story, of 5 friends. - 2 of them are brothers, serving in the Werhmacht. (Shown in this scene) - 1 of the friends is a jew, who is trying to leave. His family owned a tailoring business. He ends up joining the resistance on the way out. 2 of them are young women. 1 of whom is a singer, who was having an affair with an Officer The other was a young nurse serving on/near the Eastern Front. The russians overrun the place, in the end. It was an okay movie. From people who were "GERMAN" during ww2, but not necessarily "Nazi's". There IS a difference. That movie showed that. And humanized german soldiers.
The best part is that the older brother is the officer shown here, and was lauded throughout the first few episodes as what a man serving dutifully to his country should be like. His father is very proud of him and his friends look up to him. Meanwhile his younger brother, who is more sensitive and conscientious, is labelled a coward and his father hates him and refuses to see him when he comes back from leave. In the end, the younger brother broke and deserted, was caught and was sent to a penal battalion, whilst the younger brother continued to serve dutifully (if not willingly) up until the very end when he performed the ultimate sacrifice and saved a bunch of hitlerjugend from getting massacred by Russians at the end of the war. So in the end, the younger brother was the better soldier and the 'better' man

They are human beings, but unfortunately the Allies portrayed them as monsters. In fact, the Allied armies were more monsters than the Nazis, but they only show us how brutal Nazism was. This is because history is written by the victors. There are many crimes that the Allies accused Germany of committing, but they did not do so. These crimes are just crimes committed by the Allies, and they blamed the Nazis. Look for the war crimes committed by the Allied armies against the German people. They were atrocities from the crimes of the Nazis, and not only in Germany. War crimes occurred even in the countries of Western and Eastern Europe, which gained liberation from the Nazis thanks to America and the Soviets. Such as France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, and Ukraine. Research what the Americans and Soviets did to them when they liberated their country.

No soldiers were evil on the eastern front not just the SS. The eastern front was a meat grinder that saw the genocide of up to potentially 40million dead Russians and most being civilian casualties

Not at all rare, hundreds of thousands of soviets surrendered during only year 1941. You just been hypnotised by hollywood by saying that. Nkvd and comissars were different case though.
The German Army inflicted five casualties on Allied Armies for every one they received. They were, without a doubt, the most effective fighting force in the war. They were beaten by sheer numbers, industrial capacity, and better leadership.

There being only one episode in the entire Series with German Soldiers dressed in mixed uniforms and looking as if they had seen a lot of action, that episode being "A Cry in the Ruins" directed by Vic Morrow.........
Yes, the uniforms were not very accurate. The breast eagle was much too large as were the decals on the helmets. If you look at the series called 'Gallant Men' which aired around the same time as Combat, the soldiers are always wearing old style WW1 German helmets.

I just commented on another clip that portrayed German soldiers as human. It was refreshing and very nice to see them portayed in this way.
My father fought Wermacht units during the siege of Budapest. (They didn't like the Germans too much. They looked down on the Hungarians.) Father (Dr. Torjay Valter (1926-2020.) said the German was the best soldier in the world, characterized by amazing perfection. My grandfather, Ernő Torjay, chief engineer, was wanted to be executed by Hungarian fascists. A Wermacht officer helped free him.

Remember guys, it was the political party and SS that were the real baddies. Soldiers are Soldiers no matter the uniform.
No soldiers were evil on the eastern front not just the SS. The eastern front was a meat grinder that saw the genocide of up to potentially 40million dead Russians and most being civilian casualties
That's also because of the extreme propaganda though so most soldiers were not ordinary but indoctrinated to an extent although not trying to generalise
Oh! I never thought that it were SS that killed nearly 30 millions in my country

@@crazykidy224 The thing is it's NOT your problem. If you'd know anything about that besides of propaganda BS fairytales they teach and feed you, you'd changed your mind about that.
Nonetheless the series are funny. They show pure nazis killing Russians without asking, but the main objective is not exposing their crimes but showing that they are people too. They are not. They are killers, mass murders. Just a bit better than the brown shirts. It were not the brown shirts that killed 27 millions of soviet citizens. They were Germans, Hungarians, Romanians and others axis allies.
4:48 The officer actually had hella restraint for somebody who had just seen two of his friends die
His 2 comrades were killed in action. If you're not ready to see comrades KIA in a war, then I advise you not to go to war.
Also, now his prisoners will have probably to endure a painful death in German concentration camps instead of a short one. Very "compasionate", indeed.

"Russians did not sign the Geneva Convention"
The Geneva Convention nevertheless obliged Germany to treat its prisoners of war humanely whoever they may be.
Also, I agree that some Germans were forced to fight in the SS and the Wermarcht. But it can't be used as an excuse to commit war crimes: As far as I can see the Russian soldiers who killed those 2 German soldiers killed them in accordance with the laws of war of the 1929 Geneva Convention.

Out of all the uniforms of WW2 the German one was the most stylish and perfect.
Every single army in WW1 and WW2 had drip uniforms, i wish that camoflage becomes obsolete so we have those kind of uniforms again

They were awesome, but my favorite is uniform of Commonwealth in Africa
The German Army inflicted five casualties on Allied Armies for every one they received. They were, without a doubt, the most effective fighting force in the war. They were beaten by sheer numbers, industrial capacity, and better leadership.
This is not true bruh lmao the ratio even on the Eastern front was 1-1.3ish
I think 5Ring is referring to the Battle of Kursk where the Soviet casualties were alarmingly high. There is still debate over the actual number but ratios vary from 3-1 to 5-1.

The sounds of equipment and foot steps is satisfying
Interesting thing to know is that due to German jackboots having hobnails, they made lots of noise on the pavement.
Hence the famous noise of German troops marching in cities across Europe in single step.

It be nice to have some subtitles so I know what they're saying. This looks great
It adds a feel to just see the language barrier of the Russians vs the Germans on the battlefield. Both of them don’t know what the enemy is saying and they each need to make a move without being able to understand the enemy’s moves
It’s from a German TV three-parter. The English version is called “Generation War” it’s excellent
Saw this show years ago and loved it, Also proof not all shows have to have a happy ending to be awesome.

just a little tip bit here the German uniforms were actually designed by Hugo Boss
Nope, they weren't.
This is a great movie. One of my favorite war movies ever. A must see...
Very interesting to just see an average firefight/skirmish of WW2 rather than part of a full scale assault, or one of the main battles.

This is from the excellent series Generation War. I highly recommend it.
Hugo Boss ,Top notch Deutsch Quality !
Gotta love that moment where he finally subdues the Russian and only puts his gun at him. Men aren’t made to kill other man, it’s simply not instinctual. Soldiers may be risking their lives, but any soldier worth their training will know that needless waste of life is a cowardly method.
Was Russian, not American, but point well taken.
Фильм называется Наши матери - Наши отцы. Очень интересная картина.
I like movies that show other perspectives of war, and shows the other sides not just being cannon fodder. The enemy was a clever bastard no less than we were. The backed the wrong horse, sure, but I like that the Germans are actually shown to be competent. And showing the struggles they faced; they were scared just like we were. War is brutal no matter what side you're on. It feels like any other American war movie, except change in uniform and language.
You don't conquer Europe by having storm trooper aim

I have always liked and watched the TV Series "COMBAT!", back in the 60s my Dad I would sit there and really get into it. But in hindsight, the German Soldiers uniforms always looked as if they just got off "dress parade"! In addition, they often ran out into the open, only to get shot down by Saunder`s Squad, being nothing more than "cannon fodder" for the Immortal members of the Squad. There being only one episode in the entire Series with German Soldiers dressed in mixed uniforms and looking as if they had seen a lot of action, that episode being "A Cry in the Ruins" directed by Vic Morrow.........
The German uniform in Nazi Germany. Was design by Hugo boss. Lol
Wait, THE Vic Morrow? I'll have to look at this.
Yes, the uniforms were not very accurate. The breast eagle was much too large as were the decals on the helmets. If you look at the series called 'Gallant Men' which aired around the same time as Combat, the soldiers are always wearing old style WW1 German helmets.
@@mawel1955 Hi machine, you are on target 100%, I remember "Gallant Men" very well and you are right about the late 1916 style helmets on that Series. Either, no one knew or did not care about accurate uniforms on both Series, which is a shame because late war German camo uniforms were impressive. Regardless of the wardrobe Dept, indifference, I will always have fond memories of both Series. I believe that Saunders and the squad are still on patrol somewhere out there........
As a Pole, all I Can say that this movie is awesome ;)
