You always go so in depth into who you're covering it's incredible. Love Kiko, didn't think I had more to learn about him but you proved me wrong. Great video!
One of my favorite things about owning his pieces is the fact that I’m still discovering details and features months after I’ve purchased them. The experience is unlike any other I’ve had with any designer
This is the single most important video for menswear in the actual fashion scene, he is going to be remembered in a 100 years as the designer who diversified menswear fashion to a wider spectrum of eyes.
I think so too, he innovated menswear in the way men want. He makes the male gaze for clothes, something I cant name another designer that has done as successfully
Usually I am a silent viewer (this could be my first comment ever actually), but I have to let you know about my appreciation for you and you content. Your work is incredible and this is my favourite TH-cam channel for sure. I have no wishes for specific designers whatsoever, but you continuing and enabling us to learn more!
Wow, thank you so much, that’s such an incredibly lovely message to read and I’m so glad that my content encouraged you to comment for the first time. I keep a very close eye on my comments so don’t be a stranger🙏
I don’t know a lot about fashion because l’m just an overweight cat. However, l love your videos. Excellent storytelling and research depth. Outstanding quality. Thank you so much for all the effort you put in and for sharing your love and knowledge of fashion with us.
since I stay tuned accidentally of Understitch new videos are more learning more about fashion or fashion house aesthetics and because of that I been more in love of fashion industry and another point of views.. more power to this channel
Its the most interesting thing! The inner workings of a company is so fascinating to me, I wish the info was more readily available because Id love to learn their logistics plans and strategies to success, I mean I understand why it has to be secret (bcs competitors) but man I wish it wasnt
when seeing Kiko’s debut women’s wear collection I was reminded of samodivas - female nymphs from Bulgarian mythology and even though he has not mention his culture as influence, the inclusion of elaborate flower head pieces bring too strong of an association with nosiya (Bulgarian folk dress) for me as a Bulgarian not to think that he references our folklore and cultural heritage
@@understitchYT thank YOU for being interested and researching about my culture💕 itwarms my heart to hear someone I'm such a fan of appreciating you literary made my day 💕💕💕
Such a great video! loved every bits of it. Just one note I wanted to add about the material used in 00042018 - it was the first season where Kiko uses Loro Piana Fabrics!
Also Laura Fanning is Kiko's GF/partner - so it was the right move for them to be working together on the womenswear collection. (with Deanna Fanning included too of course)
Oh thats fascinating I had no idea about either of those things . It’s so interesting that I understood that the clothes looks like a boyfriend and girlfriend, despite not knowing that, they really are a really great pair.
To me its really perfect for people that take fashion very seriously. These people feel that fashion is a type of art standalone and that they are swayed by the garment story heavily. Similar in that sense to Raf fans
I think he will have a simiilar trajectory to Raf (bad timing to say this?) I think he will slowly grow a beloved business over many years and stay largely out of the big name brands, but I obviously could be wrong. What do you think?
@@understitchYT I think that the only positive he could get out of signing to a big brand is that he would have access to more resources like materials. I think some brands are looking more for creative directors with networking capabilities, who can bring more clout/eyes to the men's clothing, someone who is focused on the presentation (the runway), the show, the PR, rather than someone who's a designer's designer like Kiko. I think Kikos motivations are 1. Knowledge, 2. Resources, 3 Money, and all of the 3 are interconnected to work for his goal - making clothes, so yeah, I think at some point he could maybe sign to a big brand to aquire these things to further his vision
Yeah, I really think that’s the only reason he would sign with a big label, as if he was able to have the access to better materials. Perhaps he could take over at Fendi, or Loewe, because they have exceptional access to fabrics, even more than the other big name brands. But I don’t know if he would do it without having that ability to use their production at least for fabrics
He wouldn’t (I think), he’s gonna build a huge fashion house which will be remembered for ever and impose his own vision under his own name over fashion in general.
How do these designers go straight from school to being stocked by every major retailer? Is it really just word-of-mouth between the schools and retailers and fashion journalists?
Actually, it is pretty much directly because of the school. Anyone that goes to central Saint Martins, for example, Parsons, polimoda will have all of the right retailers go to the shop, it’s part of why those schools are so desirable

I have yet to buy a piece for myself, but I keep scouring the resale sites because Im desperate for that experience

What niche do you think his brand exists in? I feel like it’s a mixture
To me its really perfect for people that take fashion very seriously. These people feel that fashion is a type of art standalone and that they are swayed by the garment story heavily. Similar in that sense to Raf fans
Do you think that Kiko will choose to become a creative director of a big brand, or he will grind and work on his own brand and do collaborations?
I think he will have a simiilar trajectory to Raf (bad timing to say this?) I think he will slowly grow a beloved business over many years and stay largely out of the big name brands, but I obviously could be wrong. What do you think?
