Morning. Thanks for info. Quick question for you. Starting application process currently. Ìf I am getting cpp disability can I still receive a company longterm disability insurance? I'm sure they cap it off but I'm working now because I wasn't sure what programs were available I don't want to lose my house.
Yes you can get both CPP disability and long-term disability benefits from your company group insurance plan. Usually what happens is if you are approved for both benefits, the company LTD plan can reduce what they pay you dollar for dollar what you get from CPP disability. However, it is still very valuable for you to apply for CPP disability because there are other benefits to you. Here is an older article I wrote on what this is so: www.resolutelegal.ca/cpp-disability-and-ltd-insurance-problems/
Hello, can you explain if there are any additional benefits available for people already receiving cppdisability... would i qualify for gis for example? or what are criteria to qualify for any other supports/benefits? tya
For a person already getting CPP disability, the most common other disability benefits would be the Disability Tax Credit (Revenue Canada) or provincial disability benefits (Your Province). The provincial benefits are called different things in each province, but they cover things like medications, living allowance, etc.
I'm being told my cpp will be half of what I'm getting now on cppd. I have been not working since 2000, and I did not know I was not contributing into cpp. It appears you can't even. I am trying to buy a little townhouse for my mental health. So i need to know my future income and I'm getting strange answers from service canada
So if someone was 26 when they got cpp -disability, and they died at 48, all those yrs they got cpp and didn’t work are not included in calculation for retirement pension? They only use the yrs the person worked from 18-26?
wonder how it works when you getting LtD/CPP disability and making close to your normal wages and paying the taxes , so would those still be contributing years.
You would have to be getting employment income for work in order to be contributing to the CPP Plan. The contributions are taking as payroll deductions. You can't receive CPP disability and pay into the program at the same time. If your only income is from LTD, then you are not paying into the CPP plan, even though the LTD benefits may be taxable as income.
I am on CPPD, at 65 it automatically becomes CPP. Once that happens can l then choose to now defer that CPP to 70? Or is something like that possible once you start receiving CPP? I.e. can a person change their mind once the start getting CPP, say 65 and 1 month, decide they would rather now wait til 70? Thx.
I have been on CDP … now it sounds like it all one .. But I AM STILL ,DISABLED..diagnosed with several health issues.. I have over paid CCP.. Now I have to pay $300.per month for my drug .. big hit , therapy 210. Per month.. I don’t leave my home , turning 65 was scary .. helping my 32 daughter, My savings are not much. I hate to think how much ? I have given her .. living in Halifax , is totally insane.. time off work, as she fell in to Depression, and adused at her job .. so that means 55% .. she was down to , plus a 30,000 student loan . Trudeau promised to help .. so our kids are being threatened constantly, to PAY .. RIGHT DOWN TO CAT FOOD COST .,
Possibly, it would depend on the terms of your spousal support. CPP is considered income so I can have an effect for people who have to pay or receive spousal or child support
Thank you so much for addressing this issue. I was worried about this as I am 53 with MS an am recently no longer able to work. Thank you 🙏

A tax credit is useless unless you actually have money

QUESTION: Can someone on CPPD, upon turning 65, postpone retirement CPP until 70?
Yes
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Does my CPP will affect amount of my spouse allowance?
