- Hi viewers , Welcome again to my channel. In this episode i will be demonstrating on how to do a quick tune up on the Mass Air Flow sensor on this Mazda CX 5 with Skyactiv engine.
Equipment required:
Philips head screw driver
MAF sensor cleaner / Electrical cleaner
Note : Please do this at your own risk . I will not held any responsibility of any damages that can occur while doing this task.

I have had so much trouble with my 2012 cx5 with the engine light coming on, took it to mazda and they were going to charge me $850 to replace the sensor, tried your method and it fixed the issue, you are a legend.

Yea buddy I have 2015 mazda 6 too! Plan on cleaning my MAF sometime soon see if it gives a boost in fuel economy

Curious on if you would make a video on cleaning the IAC (Idle Air Control valve)? Thank you for all your videos! Love the basic maintenance series! They have helped me consider getting a used Mazda 6 (2014+) because of how "relatively" simple to do in the driveway with simple tools.
i dont think gasoline CX 5 has this IACV . But i will have a look if i do find a car that has one i will try to make one video.

Thank you for this video. I will try this out. Do you have any suggestions for my problem with my CX5 2012 model? I have been having check engine problems and going into Limp Mode. Scanner always says throttle body problem. I have replaced the throttle body twice already but unfortunately i still have check engine problems. Any suggestions for this? Thank you very much!
hmm i havent had any issues. not quiet sure whats is wrong with yours. have you check the connection and tighten all bolts securing the tb.

Great video I'm having this issue with are mazda 5 wagon and we are getting the error code p061b and seems like this may be the issue may try this and buy a good quality air filter see if that sensor airbag warning light turns off.
Could you do a video on how to clean valves on this GDI engine using CRC valves cleaner? Thx.

CRC mass air flow sensor, is the appropriate, application for what you're doing. Not the electrical cleaner. My dealership told me that. But your procedure is correct.
if you have the MAF sensor cleaner , it would be much better. Otherwise you can follow this video and most of my cars uses CRC electrical cleaner for all electrical parts including cleaning the Maf sensor without any problems.

Exactly same set up as 2016 Mazda 3. I used a shit load more MAF cleaner. Then I inhaled it an got fuk in high.

I got code P0172 ( Possible Cause MAF Sensor) and the Check Engine is ON. Would cleaning the MAF Sensor help ?
should do the MAF cleaning first disconnect the negative battery too whilst doing the service . if it doesnt help then replace it .
I was at it again for almost an hour trying to figure out how to remove the MAP sensor harness without a destroying it. My first car which was a 1974 Fiat Super Brava that I posted for sale and was bought by a master mechanic said even if theres any problem that I didn't mention it's cool. So I didn't tell him that 80% of the harnesses connected to the engine was already broken. He called after a week he said wtf?!! complaining. I said I dunno what u talking about> You said it ain't a problem.
haha cool cool. hope everything is fine :) yeah with these cars the connectors are very tight but we have to be gentle at it in order for it to come loose.

Simple great video I've had my radiator replaced since buying my second hand cx5 and 1x injector brand new dealer part however even though that showed on diagnostics (eventually it dud being hit n miss ) I'm still occasionally having the issue (it's still under warranty) but if like to find out about faults myself in the mrsn time b4 it goes back in if needed ......it is a juddery feel in acceleration and often if you floor it it often clears....its not in my opinion 100% smooth even at Crudgington speeds and wondering if it could simply me a maf clean....no errors etc may I ask (if not for illustration purposes ) why you needed to clean yours? Thanks

@@BubbleTeaFob I think there are 2 one in tanks or close to (primary) then 2nd in engine behind battery which is the 1 I replaced
why do u remove the battery terminal?
So that way we do not risk of shorting the electrical system or any of electrical components whilst doing the service. Better takes a couple of seconds to loosen the neg battery terminal. Cheers.

Hallo Suhu, Mazda CX-5 saya idle posisi netral tiba2 drop rpm nya dan kembali naik dan turun lagi.
Siklusnya seperti itu terus, seperti pincang ketika posisi netral.
Ketika mobil jalan atau berakselerasi mesin masih responsif, tarikan enteng. Namun konsumsi BBM lebih boros dari biasanya.
Saya sudah coba bersihkan semua busi, ganti filter udara, bersihkan throttle body dan bersihkan sensor MAF.
Mohon petunjuk itu kenapa ya Suhu?

Klo di posisi P jg sama naik turun di 750 - 600 rpm namun tidak muncul engine light atau logo lainnya.
Klo sensor MAF saya cabut, mesin tetap hidup namun suara mesin berubah menjadi lebih kasar.
Begitu jg saya starter tanpa konek sensor MAF, mobil tetap hidup meski rough.

Must be dried b4 plug it in to avoid any electrical shortage.
So use the QD electronic cleaner instead of Mass airflow sensor cleaner?

To restore back engine performance . Your engine needs the proper air/fuel ratio to run correctly. The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor plays a critical role within the fuel management system to ensure the ratio is correct. The MAF sensor monitors the temperature and amount of air entering your engine.

Yub Ayub iya bener harus di reset settingan audio , power window , i stop juga.
Mungkin bisa dibuat video pemakaian obd2 untuk reset

Nope no error if you do it right. this video to show only for those who are wanting to clean up their maf for every service to restore engine performance, it might be dirty if you r living in very dusty region.
@@FelixDanGarasiAuto I don’t have any error lights but since fitting a new DPF about a year ago, around every 80-100 miles or so it blows smoke from the exhaust for a day and it smells like burnt diesel. Wondered if the MAF was the problem.
@@barryhunt6252 give it a quick check n clean up. If not from the MAF it maybe from other sensor. Do you have OBD scan tool?
@@FelixDanGarasiAuto thanks for the advice. Yes I do have an OBD scanner but it never shows any errors always giving a clean bill of health which always confuses me.

Boleh infokan berapa airflow rate (gram/sec) saat rpm idle? Apakah 3.5 gr/sec pada rpm 825 masih termasuk normal atau sedikit lebih tinggi dari normal?

Nope dont need to reprogram , just have to disconnect the negative battery prior cleaning the maf sensor .
Mau tanya om. MAF cx5 saya divonis rusak, apakah dgn dibersihkan bisa membantu? Atau memang harus diganti. Kondisi mesin ga bisa hidup, tapi kalo soket kabel dilepas, mesin bisa hidup. Thanks before.
Halo Satya. Untuk MAF sensor yang terbaca oleh software mazda sudah terdeteksi rusak harus segera di ganti dengan part yg baru . Soalnya di dalam MAF sensor itu terdapat komponen yg sangat sensitif sehingga tidak mungkin untuk memperbaikinya dengan cara apapun. Terima kasih.

@@satyadw oh belum di scan ya. Coba di copot negative batere nya . Tunggu 5 menit. Bole di coba bersihkan dahulu MAF sensornya. Setelah itu coba nyalakan mesin (panasi mesin seperti biasa) terus matikan mesin cobalah selama 5 x agar ECU dapat membaca kembali part yang sudah dibersihkan 😁.

Only use electronic cleaner . I wouldnt use wd40.
Do you have accelerate hesitation??? I have on a CX5 2.0 L 2WD on highway only(not in the city) When I put a little gas pedal the car has a abrupt response gear selection to 3rd
@@tacuazinful I had a hesitation issue that turned out to be a bad battery.
@67nole302 my 2013 cx5 2.0 hesitates badly until I stomp on the accelerator and then it wakes back up. There's no sputtering, jerking and no check engine lights. Is this similar to what you experienced? I'm just hoping I don't need new injectors, coil packs, fuel pump or fuel filter. I'm praying that some sea foam treatment and this maf cleaner will solve it. But the battery did show a "below threshold " reading.

I dont think theres one on a gasoline engine.

Yes it is the 2.2 Diesel
As i do not own a skyactiv diesel but from research, best is to go underneath the vehicle and check the catalytic converter there should be 2 metal tube . Just follow & trace that metal tube to the engine bay , the sensor might be hidden behind the engine block, or somewhere near there .

would a dirty MAF cause the engine light to come on?
If it gets really dirty with contaminant then yes it would trigger the engine light to comes on but then if you have a engine light your best bet is to hook up OBD reader into your vehicle to see where the engine code light coming from.

Do you know on a Mazda CX5 where the Emergency Brake Module is at as the dealer is charging 750.00 to replace with a new battery and Diagnostic ,car won't start. cause the brake lock is locked and the car won't start.

Felix Dan how would you short it? It’s a closed off plug. Pretty impossible to short unless you put something across the plug pins

Hi Felix. Thanks for the your video and interesting information. But I think your way is wrong. The main goal is to clean the sensitive element of this sensor. But it is inside the sensors body. An air channel leads to it. And you clean only the sensors body outside and the resistor, which is located on top of the case. Maybe I'm wrong. I wouldnt go that far. If you were to splice it open .. might aswell buy new ones . Cleaning the outside area is fine it will still improve the efficiency of the maf sensor as you dont want any oil sludge on it.

umm fyi its a MAF sensor / IAT no 1 they are the same. Please do your research before make any comments. Thanks for your time tuning in :)
@@FelixDanGarasiAuto The maf sensor is the little diode looking thing. Don't touch it etc imo. Just a light cleaning.spray not a blast. the wipe method you did and changing angles was nice. as for using the expensive MAF cleaner onf the pastic parts. its a waste of expensive product. It will work on other vehicles. Except some you can't clean. 1993 dodge stealths and other, check first Most modern is ok
