I just took a factory tour 11.21.2019 (afternoon). Jason was my tour guide. He now works with Private Stock. Super nice guy. Great tour. I just stumbled on this video ... wish I has seen it before I went. Could have given him a hard time :)
I've been building guitars for a long time. 220 grit is ridiculously low for sanding clear coat lol. Its would have to be so thick that its a complete waste of product and money, not to mention the waste of time and sandpaper from having to start that lowl. Fons negentienachtenvijftig
what grit is "superfine" in this vid?.. i have a pile of PRS's & other top shelf guitars but also like to build myself...i do what i can in tiny garage shop and these vids are really awesome for a hobbyist like myself!!
Wasn't some of this process replaced by the robotic arm? (seriously) This is an unenviable job - one of the hardest, most tedious parts of producing a quality guitar.

How thick is that clear when you can 220 sand it haha
@JgHaverty Its thick but these guys know exactly how to sand the most off to where the layer is real thin. To be a good Sander takes some practice.

This guy knows what he's doing. I wouldn't dare using a power sander on a PRS... not even on a cheap guitar kit...
