    I own this bike, and love it! I will say you are at a disadvantage in the first 50 miles; mine really smoothed-out in that first 50. Quick shifter just needs to be turned on, and it's a peach. Bike was pretty restricted OEM, but $300 to Moore Mafia absolutely nailed the fuel table with a ecu flash. I'm 6'1", 56 years old, and loving my old-man sport bike.

      @@lylewelch5056 I think it is as nimble and comfy as a commuter needs to be. Maybe the best all around package out there. Handles great, hauls the mail, feels lighter than it is. Very easy to ride in tight quarters. I don't have the bags, so filtering is a breeze. I'm getting 38 mgg, but mine is tuned and deleted. Was getting 43 mpg prior to the mods, but the tune is required imo. Bike is pretty restricted OEM.

      @lanceb3547 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ehiggins7476 it's really all over the Rev range. You will notice a much stronger 3rd gear, and you will lose the dramatic drop at 10k in every gear. A hard pull in 3rd, then an 11k shift to 4th is now extremely rewarding. Before the tune it was just odd, as the throttle plates were giving maybe 40% throttle at 10k. Full throttle is more fun.

    I picked up slightly used a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX for a price I couldn`t refuse. What a great motorcycle! I owned and rode many other bikes before in my 34 year riding career, that said, this is the best bike I owned so far. It’s just such a well rounded motorcycle. It has everything you really need. Adjustable windshield, fully adjustable suspension, power outlet, factory luggage option with a mount that does not look retarded when the bags are off, all the modern electronic nannies, quick shifter, etc. At 48 years old I don`t want to be a MotoGP or World Superbike racer, but this bike sure does scratch the itch in the twisties. Yet I can tour or commute with it every day.

    Yes. The windshield is adjustable. I keep mine in the lowest position most of the time. I only put it all the way up when I go on the freeway. As mentioned by other people, the quick shifter just needed to be turned on. The Ninja 1000sx is a great all around bike. It only take a minute to put on the side cases if you need to get groceries. The bike is a perfect combination of fun, comfort, and practicality.

    So I have "this exact same bike". Only 2020 version. I absolutely love it. The windshield can be adjusted via the "bottom right corner" of the display. It's behind and tucked into the bike. It requires two hands.
    As far as the brakes...when I bought mine, I "had no brakes"...but that's bc the dealership didn't wipe off the excess oil from the rotors. Once I did wipe them down, boom! They stop like crazy.

    I have a 2021 model of this bike, in this same color and equipped with the Performence Tourer package.
    The Aesthetics initially seemed strange to me,(I am 50 years old) the Sugomi linen of KAWAZAKI is hard to understand, after a year of having it, I love the bike.
    There are two things that I highlight in this bike, the engine, very docile, and with power, without being exaggerated, but from 6000rpm the thing is serious, without being scary, and the typical Ninja chassis, extremely agile without being solid and stable. The bike is comfortable for people of my height (5.6), the seat could be a little lower, but no problem, I can reach the tip of both feet on the ground.
    It's an excellent bike for traveling, even better, for making short trips 150, 200 km accompanying friends with sport bikes on curves. Forget the original S22 tires, put on a Metzeler racetec K3 and you have a real sport bike with comfort.
    As they say, a sport bike for smart people, or as it was very well said in the video, a sport bike for older people.
    Congratulations for the video, you captured in 20 minutes the essence of the Ninja 1000 SX. Big hug from Portugal, I always follow your videos!

    I bought this bike when it came out the day after lockdown was over. I did about 4500 miles on it in a couple of weeks touring Spain and Portugal right off the bat and it's a great bike. It's almost too easy to ride and you're always in control.
    The brake position I think is because you can service the brake without removing the exhaust.
    With regards to the centre stand, that was not a problem. I have a video on my channel called "No center stand? No worries! Ninja 1000SX" if you want to find out more.

    Hey, I just love that you seem to like this beauty. I'm watching your videos regularily!
    I never really felt any urge to ride motorcycles until my late 40s, then I fell in love with the 2021 1000SX (full touring+SE package with bags, akrapovic carbon exhaust and a small number of addons and mods meanwhile) during the pandemic, rushed into obtaining the motorcycle license (interestingly one months after purchasing the bike ;) ) and spend as much time on it (being my first bike ever) as I can spare now...
    Guess the numbers show how much I enjoy my little "ginger"... 19 months since I bought it, 18 Months since having the actual license, 17.000km so far...

    I owned a 2017 and now I own a 2020 (now at the 4th gen sx) and it is indeed now a mature project and a very good all around package (I think it is one of the best value to price ratio in the whole industry). Very good power midrange and excellent fluidity (with this bike you can *start* in 6th gear without jerkiness, just to say...). Very good and modulable brakes. Good sport touring position. Suspensions sensible to settings (do set them if you buy this bike). 2020 is indeed more agile than 2017 to a slightly improved geometry. Good side bags, with decent room (hold a full helmet) easy to mount/dismount, lockable with the same ignition key. Quickshifter up is very fast and fun, blipper down needs improvement imho and to be in the rpm range to be smooth. Defects/improvement for a future: a /55 rear tyre instead of /50 would imho improve - even more - its agility during leans.

    • @PandaStencils
      @PandaStencils ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andycarswell7735 My wife has a Ninja 400 (and I have a GSX-R750 that sees most of its miles on track), so I can compare directly. Because of the wide and tall bars on the 2021 Ninja 1000SX, I find turn in pretty quick and I find it pretty nimble. The bars are a little higher and wider than the 400, which helps with leverage throwing it around, but I have not ridden a bike that is as nimble as the 400. With the Ninja 1000SX, it takes a little more constant bar pressure to carry through the turn compared to "pure" sportbikes that I have ridden, but I would describe it easy to ride and pace and easy to throw around. With the 1000SX, you feel the larger engine crank centrifugal motion compared to smaller displacement bikes, but for its overall dimensions, size, and mass, I think that it is pretty nimble and definitely fun in the twisties. I hope that this helps!

    Probably my next bike. CBF1000 rider here, true 4cyl sport touring (touring>sport) 37yo enjoyer here. If I need to change bike right away, this is my pick, and probably last of a kind. One of the dying breed of motorcyclism - sport touring 4cyl - smooth, powerfull and still comfortable. Why do Honda abandon their 4cyl sport touring market?!
    Thanks for the video and review!

    I own the 2020 version, which is the same, but only different colors. To engage the quick shifter, you have to enter the menu and enable it. To shift up, you need to keep de gas open. For auto blipper, you need to get off the gas, an it will shift down. You also need to install the kawasaki app on your phone and you can customize the “rider” mode, and it will be raw and quick. 12min 44sec quick on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, but it was my first time there, and I believe it can be done in 9 min, because I wasn’t on full throttle since it was my first lap ever there. I also own the original luggages, but with them mounted, you’ll feel a slight wobble at 230 km/h. There is also another windscreen, a little bit taller, and it has like 2 little lateral extensions. Believe me, it is the best. The standard one gives a lot of buffeting at speeds over 150-170 km/h, and you really have to tuck in. The brake caliper in the back is mounted in the down side because the exhaust can is also lower, so it’s easier to change the brake pads, without other additional actions. Also, since you didn’t show this, there’s a little lever in the right side of the screen, and when you press the lever, you can modify the angle of that screen. What I don’t like is that the iridium spark plugs need to be changed at 12k kms, where in the past they needed 20-25k kms. And to change them, i have dismantled half the bike, since one cowl is attached to another, and you can’t lift the tank unless some of the fairing is off. But other than that, the bike is brilliant. I have travelled from Romania, my home country, to Hungary, Austria, Germany, to Black forrest mountains then Nurburgring and back home in Bucharest, Romania, in 6 days, with no fatigue, just some vibrations at 5-6k rpm, that disappear at 7-8k rpm.

    Awesome informative professional review. Glad you went into the brakes. The bike does come with the quick shifter for up shifting and down shifting just need to be in the rider mode that allows full access to it. This bike along with the ZX14R are on my short list I am leaning more towards the Ninja 1000 because it just seems to have the latest and the greatest tech plus sportier. Compared to the others BMW, Suzuki and Yamaha in my opinion this bikes checks all the boxes at a great price. Again thanks for the review. Top notch.

      @@dave4148 I'm guessing because the ZX14r is about 80 lbs heavier with a longer wheelbase. It's a more aggressive position, but that also means less leverage to tip in to turns. The N1k is slower in a straight line, but faster side to side.

The engine on these is so flexible, in 6th at 25 to 30 mph and no judder at all. Just open the throttle and it will pull smoothly like a train. Great bike especially for the money,

    I have a 21 Ninja 650 super great bike but the price is right. Dealers around here are not willing to stock the 1000 SX and the main reason is the price. It is a great bike and I would love to have one too but dealers know that not enough people are willing to spend that much money on a motorcycle plus the increase in insurance costs.. Thank goodness for the 650. It can do just about everything the 1000 can except go 150 mph and no cruise or quick shifter either or riding modes but sometimes less is more.

    I couldn’t agree more with MotoJitsu. Tires are everything on a motorcycle however, when you start messing with the dynamics of a motorcycle, maybe you’re on the wrong motorcycle. you should never start changing tire sizes etc. so I agree with MotoJitsu. You can always upgrade your tire based on what you’re doing however you should never change the size that your machine came with.

    I opted for an FJR over the ninja 1k. Ended up regretting the extra weight sacrificed and extra width for what ended up being not a lot of 2up riding. Other than chain maintenance, I think the ninja 1k would have been a smarter choice. The super smooth kawi gearbox and better handling from lower weight I think would be more enjoyable for my kind of riding. I'm concerned about weight so much that I'm considering going back to an mt07 bc I don't ride long fast highway stretches where a 1000+cc bike starts to shine. My comparison experience for reference is multiple kawi demo days rides vs owning the FJR for over a year.

    • @MMOsForLife
      @MMOsForLife ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I also owned an FJR before, and today I own a Suzuki 1000 GSX-S1000 this m/c's direct competitor. At the low 500lbs mine is very nimble. Very easy to control and maneuverable. But both these m/c's are NOT for longer 2Up runs than say 1-2 hours tops as these are minimalist sport tourers compared to the FJR, Concourse. While heavier, the upside is the FJR is much more comfortable for 2 for longer rides. The Kawi and Suzi gives your passenger a small spot to put their butt and feet on and that's it. I can't speak for the Kawasaki, but the Suzi is a more comfortable sport bike tuned for the streets that also has pegs and a seat spot for a passenger. "Touring" is an huge overstatement.

    • @brandonhindmarsh4353
      @brandonhindmarsh4353 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MMOsForLife 💯 agree with your assessment of 2up. I'd imagine that the ninja 1k would be pretty comfy long distances solo. My advice to others is make sure your 2up is eagerly on board with being a 2up before picking the FJR over ninja 1k. Don't assume they'll warm up to it. Maybe rent one for a day or two, get familiar and do a test date ride to see how it goes. In fairness, I'm sure it's unsettling riding back there.

    • @MMOsForLife
      @MMOsForLife ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brandonhindmarsh4353 Exactly. Very comfortable for longer solo rides. Frankly, calling both these m/c's touring anything is a stretch. When I think "touring", a Gold Wing or BMW 1600GT comes to mind. Whereas an FJR or Concours is a proper "sports tourer" in my book. This Kawi and the Suzi are both comfy sport bikes with cruise control :)

    • @leebonds3843
      @leebonds3843 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am considering the Ninja 1000sx and the Goldwing non-tour. I've ridden both and love the ride of both. Ideally I'd like to do some long distance riding and would love for my wife to ride with me. Although I'm not so sure she will. A little bit of added riding history, I'm coming from a '14 GSXR 1000 which I loved, and I managed to do some 8-9 hours rides on it. But my wife has only ridden with me twice. So my question is whether the 1000sx is really comfortable for those long distance rides as those trips will probably be solo rides:)
