      Actually, this will probably be great for his business because now you'll have a bunch of bigots flocking there because they want to give him money for fighting for their beliefs. Also, no matter what, it doesn't change the fact that the belief he's fighting for is the belief that he should be able to discriminate against customers based on minority status. He can say 'I make all of these cakes for straight people, but gay people can only buy from these selections in my inventory'. Based on this decision, all discrimination would have to be allowed as long as it was backed up by religious conviction, which would essentially allow all religious discrimination since that is almost always motivated by religious conviction.

      Christians don't hate gays. We dont hate anyone. We believe that your soul is in danger because being gay is sinful. We're worried about you. And when people ask us to participate in things like this, we get worried about the safety of our souls if we participate.
      The "Christians" who hate people and are really mean and violent are NOT practicing what JESUS teaches. The mean and violent "Christians" are not really Christians. Real Christians love you. We hate the sin, not the person. And we believe that non repented sin puts everyone doing it in danger of going to hell.
      A lot of Christians have had paranormal experiences and have witnessed real miracles from GOD and we know for a fact that GOD is real and the Bible is true. And thats why we cling to our beliefs so strongly. Even if everyone thinks we're crazy. We know we aren't. GOD IS REAL ❤❤❤ JESUS LOVES YOU ❤❤❤❤

    • @PixieoftheWood
      @PixieoftheWood 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So when we talk about tolerance, we don't mean 'people should tolerate literally anything and just be doormats'. We mean tolerate differences that people can't control or differences that don't lead a person to cause harm to those aroud them. So if someone has a different skin color, or sexual orientation, or a disability, you shouldn't treat them like less of a person because of that. If someone has a difference that isn't causing harm, such as a religion (assuming that they don't adopt religious beliefs that lead them to act in a harmful manner to those around them), then yes, we should tolerate that.
      We do not mean that people should tolerate bigotry and intolerance. I've seen people argue that 'well in the big marketplace of ideas, the better ideas will win out, so let them be a bigot', but that's not how it ever works. For example, when you have a message board, and you let people express all political beliefs without criticism, and have a culture where you treat it like neo-nazis are the same as liberal hippie types, soon you only have neo-nazis, because no one else feels safe.
      Now, I know you're probably thinking 'but he just didn't want to bake them a cake, he's not a neo-nazi'. The problem is, people in our culture tend to only look for the biggest, loudest bigots, and refuse to see the harm the quiet bigots are doing. They think because someone's not burning crosses or threatening to kill anyone that it means they're not a bigot. He's not *as* bigoted, but the second he decided 'oh, those cakes aren't people like *you*', the baker was giving in to his worst impulses. He can say 'oh, it's my religious beliefs' all he wants, but just as I don't go 'oh, it's a religious thing' when I hear about a teenage girl murdered in an honor killing, I don't care if it's a religious thing when I hear about someone saying 'oh, I'm sorry, we don't serve your kind here'.

      @PixieoftheWood 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's untrue and I hate that so many people are adding things on to try and make the gay couple look bad. They were directed to that bakery by their wedding planner. The bakery did not advertise itself as a Christian bakery. How would they even know this? Why would you think this was the case when there's no evidence indicating this?
      And sure, everyone has their own beliefs, but beliefs are a choice. Sexual orientation is not. Beliefs can change. Sexual orientation cannot. The fact is, neo-nazis and the KKK are just expressing their sincerely held beliefs, but when those beliefs include bigotry, it's no longer a case of 'everyone just has their own beliefs'. The only difference is that in our society, if you say you're a bigot because of your religion, it's suddenly okay.

    • @1602aaa
      @1602aaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PixieoftheWood @PixieoftheWood sexual orientation is a choice too in my opinion. People can decide what type of sexual orientation they want and change them whenever they decide too. Therefore, this situation has nothing to be compared to KKK. Imagine you ask a orthodox Jews caterer or Muslim caterer to prepare pork dishes. They will surely decline it as it against their religious beliefs. Is not like the Baker person is spewing profanity to the gay couple? He just decline baking the cake because it is against his belief. The gay couple could have respect his decision and went to other bakers. But no. Instead suieng him in court. I believe that bigotry nature fits more to the gay couple since they can't stand others with different opinion and beliefs. They are willing to destroy someone's livelihood. I think they are self centered and they must learn not to victimised themselves. They are not worthy to be called 'victims' when they are the one that are bullying this Baker person.

    • @PixieoftheWood
      @PixieoftheWood 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1602aaa It's not really a matter of opinion whether or not sexual orientation is a choice or not. If someone is gay, then they are capable of being sexually attracted to the same sex and not the opposite sex, that is literally what 'being gay' means.
      Just to clarify, are you arguing that someone is simply able to change who they are and aren't sexually attracted to whenever they decide? If that is the case, then why would there be a concept of attractive people at all? Why would looks be a criteria for anyone in a partner? Would people not simply date people regardless of attraction, then shift their attractions to whatever their partner looked like?
      Also, the caterer example is a terrible comparison. A caterer typically has a menu that one would choose from, so they presumably would not put pork dishes on the menu. Anti-discrimination laws state that one cannot discriminate against people based on their sex, race, or religion. In order for something to be discrimination, one must provide a service or product to one customer, but deny an identical service or product to another customer. My issue with the baker is if a straight couple came in and asked for an identical cake to what the gay couple had tried to order, he'd have served it.
      Furthermore, I do not believe it can be considered 'bigotry' when the reason you dislike a person is their opinion. Opinions are what make a person who they are. This is particularly the case when the baker's opinion is that these men are abominations that deserve to burn in hell. He may have been polite about it, and I'd argue that he was as polite as one could possibly be with that opinion, but I would also argue that it is unreasonable to expect someone to be considerate and open minded to the opinion that they are an abomination.

    • @1602aaa
      @1602aaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PixieoftheWood well it's everyone has a choice who they want to date. Only themselves can determine their own sexual orientation. I have seen people attracted to a person based on personality. How can anyone else decide? Plus you say Baker person mention abomination towards these men and 'these people' should rot in hell. Did you even watch the video? In what context he ever say that these people who don't share the same beliefs as his should rot in hell. Point it out to me.
      The couple can always purchase the cake from someone else. You say it's discrimination but everyone has their own principle and beliefs. Then it's a discrimination to the Baker as he wants to practice his Christian faith. I don't see anything wrong with it. Why make a big fuss about it? It's not like there's a law saying 'these people' can't purchase a cake. It's his own personal business. He has every right how he wants to operate. This couple is overreacting.

    We’ve all seen the signs that say “we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone” in businesses. That sign _use to mean_ “anyone” in the literal sense. Unfortunately, now that sign is basically useless thanks to all of the exceptions that have been tacked on through the government. I’m sorry, but I think that _any_ business should be allowed to serve whoever they want to, as well as not being forced to serve someone they _don’t want to,_

    Here’s my philosophy on this
    A business, by default, can refuse anyone they want. Customers are using their property, services, and resources before any investment is done by default.
    The business can refuse anyone, let the invisible hand of economics determine if they succeed or not. This isn’t a problem for the government, go to another bakery.
    This isn’t legal discrimination that denies basic human rights, it’s his religious beliefs so just accept his terms and go somewhere else.
    However, which didn’t happen in this case but I will state anyway, when a customer invest its capital resources into said business and expect a returned service, you cannot take the money and deny them then and there because it is an unequal exchange of value.

I'm not going to sell dynamite to an arsonist, nor am I going to make and sell a wedding cake to a couple of gay men. Homosexuality is an abomination to God, no matter what laws men may make. Now if they pulled up to a gas station I owned, yes, I would most surely sell them gas. That would not be an issue. But if some 8 year old pulled up in his parents car and said, "Filler up." Um, I would most certainly and obviously decline such a request.@@abel3557
