    Im really glad he put out these videos, im making more money driving local for a fuel company and was thinking of getting my own rig. This is good insight into how bad the market is at landstar. Ill just wait on that plan

    The 1 thing you don't quantify on your spreadsheet is the value of working for yourself and the flexibility that allows. I would always take lower pay for more time off.

    You need to get a dispatch course to learn the market. I gross 7k Monday to Friday/saturday Van only Texas, weekend off and I’m lazy in running loads.

      Are you with landstsr also? Im in texas also, and plan to do exactly what your doing but rates seem rough

    If your maintenance is about .30 p/m now, you should always budget that. The Landstar costs are crazy high also. You do a good job breaking it down.

    Great content. How many hours away from home this week? It may not be worth it if you are making $15 per hour 22.5 OT. I had a business and threw in the towel for a city job for this reason. Best decision I ever made.

      They dumbed down the trucks (automatic transmissions) and flooded the market with minorities and women who are willing to trade their lives for scraps. What did you think would happen?

    KLB and Sons pays $1.70 + fuel surcharge

    You need to get a hazmat and look into doing multi stop loads that require you to use a pallet jack to bring it to the tail of the trailer. Yeah you'll have to touch the freight for like 25 minutes but those loads pay a lot more than what youre getting with no additional maintenance on your truck

      Also, you could just do the georgia to California to Florida then deadhead to Savannah Ga like a lot of people do.

    Thanks for the video. Numbers are looking a lot better. The fricking maintenance is costly in money and especially driving time. Have you noticed a decrease in fuel expense since you have a APU now? What is your average mpg?

    • @truckingthesevenseas
      @truckingthesevenseas  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Ya its looks like it increased my MPG by about .4 or .5 MPG. Was at 7.2 now its at 7.7. This could also be partly a function of me taking longer loads than when I was at Knight though.

    • @raykrv6a
      @raykrv6a 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@truckingthesevenseas 7.7 is pretty decent. Plus running the APU is going to save clogging up the emissions system.

    Was landstars cut accurate this week? I felt it was a little high

    • @truckingthesevenseas
      @truckingthesevenseas  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes its accurate. It was a long load that paid well and had limited accessorial so their cut was a little higher than were use to seeing.

    Any prospect of securing a direct shipper load for you to take on a regular basis? Some of their loads never even make it to the load board

    • @JBe77
      @JBe77 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's the biggest problem with LS. All the good loads are given to the seasoned drivers while the new bcos have to play with the scraps.

      @@HTX-pinetrailsI was at landatar for 5 yrs. Left in Dec 2023 because of lowsy rates and the amount of ghost loads .

      Most loads either don’t hit the board or they only hit for a minute. Been here since October and I’m killing it. All depends on your area and personality of how you run the business.

    Do you include landstars 35% into your $1.04 cost per mile?

    • @ThatOneGuy-hp2pb
      @ThatOneGuy-hp2pb 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep dude

    • @truckingthesevenseas
      @truckingthesevenseas  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's not included. I debated whether to count it but decided against it. I never really see the land star cut so I decided to not count it. Although counting it in the cost per mile is certainly reasonable as well.

    • @brianschwarz33
      @brianschwarz33 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@truckingthesevenseas I add the companies percentage as a cost and I've compared my cost per mile to others costs and seem it's higher than most people's. Perhaps because of the percentage taken from the company. I try for a 50/50 if I can bring home 50% I'm doing good but it's hard with the percentage as a cost. It's great to watch your videos it makes my realize things about my own business.

    Your booking too cheap and if your gonna book that cheap do short load. To get you back to the money. You gotta figure if it’s posted for $3.00 that about $2.00 to the truck after landstar’s cut. Would never book a load for less than 2.50 and that’s to get out of a bad area. Which rarely ever happens that I have to book that low. I’ve been with landstar less than a year and don’t have many contacts and it’s not hard to gross 6-7k easy weekly.

    Are you nuts an owner operator driving for under a dollar a mile. Walmart drivers make 88 cents a mile company drivers😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤
