Shirley Chisholm gave the commencement address at my graduation from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington in 1987 - she was unforgettable! ❤❤❤
How in the world is it that no one knew about Shirley Chisholm? She was larger than life. But then I’m 74. She was a person of another era. Regina King was brilliant. Shirley Chisholm had an accent and a lisp. Her voice was unique . But it was her courage, heart, and intellect that made her larger than life. I saw the movie and will watch it again. Thank you Regina King. ❤you too!
As a DC youth during Rep. Chisholm's rise, can't wait to see this in general release. Growing up without voting representation was a big turnoff, but fueled work later on and in recent years. Regina King has all the right ideas; we vote for youth's future. Motivating youth to vote today - right now - brings them and their clarity onboard for caring out space to inhabit that future. Rockthevote.
Regina, you have grown into a beautiful Black Queen, just gorgeous 😍 ❤🎉 So proud of you! 👏🏾 I loved "Watchmen" and looking forward to seeing "Sherly". Keep up the great work. 👍🏾❤
I learned about Shirley Chisholm when I was doing my activism work on living wages…her faith help me internalize ( make personal) the goal ! This film is right on time…❤! Thank you #ReginaKing
Greetings from Atlanta 🎉 Grateful to Regina and her sister ❤️. Kudos 👏 I had the pleasure to meet Shirley Chisholm and she was dynamic. A true trailblazer and feminist 👏 She taught a class on Women's Studies and Feminism when I was working on my Masters degree. Wishing the film much success 🙌
I well remember Shirley Chisolm. I'm glad that someone made a film about her. Girls and women have always needed to see women role models, who could demonstrate what we could be. She was a good role model for all women, including white women like me. When I was growing up in the 1950's, women had few role models, so we could dream of being a teacher or a nurse. So many doors were closed to us back then. Thanks for covering this film.
❤❤❤this break my heart ❤️ that I never had heard of her this is crazy she part of history I am 45 years old grow up in Los Angeles California with black teacher. And I love history period that shows you never to old to learn. I bet now my son that’s 11 knows about her now thank you Regina King you just brought her back to life since the Netflix movie that’s all I see on TH-cam be being shocked but feel honor to know she is a strong Black Woman that love all race of humans . And Regina King she was phenomenal in that movie.
*Those movies about Black historical icons always give you the politically watered-down, white-liberal acceptable, Kumbaya feel-good, 'Lifetime' TV channel, Oprah Winfrey approved version of those African American historical icons. And then if that's not bad enough, these movies either totally make-up people who never existed in the lives if those icons, or omit critically important people who did!... I wonder if the actual "hero" of this movie will be white, like so many movies about POC* ?
She was also a Quaker, a member of Delta Sigma Theta and endorsed by the Black Panther Party - hence Food Stamp legislation. Shirley was a watershed in American politics.

Regina King even still pronounces certain words in the way Shirley Chisholm used to say them. Influencing, even from the grave!
Thank you Ms. Amanpour for publishing this interview, I look forward to the film. 🖤
Regina, I'm so grateful to see you up and still creating and following your passion. Still pray for your heart daily. ❤

Contributions like this to cinema are imperative to the disemination of information and I'm so proud of Queen King!

She wasn't Black American. She was of West Indian descent.
