    It's a conundrum, red dot or variable power. As you pointed out for being fast under 100 yards a red dot rules but if you need to be spot on beyond 100 yards a good 1-4 , 1.25-6 or 1.5-8 cant be beat. Thanks for this much needed video.

    Great explanation! Is there a guide on the magnification to distance, to help determine which magnification is best?

      1 x per 100 yards is what I have seen the most, as far as recommendations go.

    Great video. Subscribed. Question? I own a Ruger 10/22 rifle & have been wanting to improve my sights. I have debated on either installing a red dot or an actual rifle scope on my 10/22. I have been told both choices are great. I am planning on using my rifle to hunt small game & coyotes. Any recommendations or suggestions on which would be better suited to install on my 10/22?? Thanks

    Hi, Great video with a plethora of information! My question centers around my AR 15-22. I currently have a 3-9x40 Prostaff Rimfire ll. My gun ranges are from 25yds. To 100yds. I haven’t had the luxury of anything further than that yet. I’d like to have the target closer without affecting the accuracy. When I zoom in I get all of the minutiae unstableness. My goal (or should I say challenge) is to hit within a dime size from 100yds. & 25yds. Would be just automatic. Is that too much to ask for a AR 15-22? I’m shooting premium ammo. My budget is less than $300. Thanks!

      Point of aim point of impact on a magnified optic is only at the magnification you chose to zero the rifle, you will need to make adjustments at the other magnification settings

    • @saltyark7564
      @saltyark7564 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ll need to do use a mil-dots if it’s a 22lr, bullet speed vs drop you won’t get a zero at 25 yards that’s the same at 100 yards. However… you can go to google and get a calculated to find your best zero setting that will keep your bullet going straight for the longest amount of time and use the Mil dots for shorter and longer distances… I think typically for 22lr it’s probably around 35 - 45 yards? But don’t quote me on that.

    What would you recommend for a bullpup 5.56 setup that would be used for a camping gun? Thick woods and open fields during hikes.

    My DPMS Oracle has a good red/green dot sight and is sighted in at 50 yards. I keep it loaded with Hornaday Critical Defense for home defense, so this setup makes the most sense for me.

    How about a Trijicon ACOG with a mounted RMR? Best of all worlds except longest range. Only down side is the price.

  • @shookme6727
    @shookme6727 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stupid question: with a red dot or scope for slower, calculated shots, does one focus on the dot or reticle (like the front sight focus with irons)?

    • @ClinttheGreat
      @ClinttheGreat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      shookme You focus on the dot which essentially is the reticle. If the scope or red dot has a bullet drop compensator, then you would not focus on the dot, but on the appropriate line or mark for the distance. Some scopes put a dot in the middle of the plus reticle for easier use.

    LPVO for life there is no competition!🤯🔫💣

  • @hawkgeoff
    @hawkgeoff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are more likely to be shooting from an awkward position, ie. under or around a car, walls, doorways get a red dot or halo... if you are more likely to need to shoot past 200 yards, than from a compromised position, get an LPVO. They seem relatively even on a flat range, but when you start adding the variables of movement and awkward... or less than ideal shooting positions, the LPVO starts to stumble... ymmv.

    Nice review on scope vs red dots. I have to admit that I see the Ruger 556 pistol as a good firearm, but I believe that by spending a little more you can get an exceptional rifle built by Aero Precision. Without a doubt the AP rifles are second to none in regards to accuracy, reliability, and over all quality. The only rifle that beats it in accuracy is the HK MR556 rifle that sells for 2 1/2 times the cost of an Aero Precision rifle. Would love to see you introduce the Aero Precision rifles to your viewers. It’s the best kept secret in the firearms industry.

    • @ClinttheGreat
      @ClinttheGreat 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quality Guru Almost sounds as if you work for Aero. A lot of the gun reviewers receive guns unsolicited , so perhaps Aero should start sending out guns to be reviewed.

      @@ClinttheGreat - Hi Clint, I don't work for Aero Precision; if I did I would be the owner! I cut my teeth with Statistical Process Control and Kaizen principles within the electronics business back in the early 90s. Based on my training, experience, and opinion I recognize a quality company. At the end of the day, it's only my opinion.
