I think ur lucky to get outta the first robbery story unharmed. Ppl usually say when u put up resistance, it gives a reason for the robbers to hurt/shoot u, especially if they see that u have an expensive phone, money, chain etc. and they really want it to feed their families or whatever.
One guy kept a gun pointed at me the whole time while the prove away I thought I was going to catch at least one shot LOL

Hey bro Pereira, Bucaramanga, Ibague. All safe beautiful, foreigners have better reputation, but quite small. Bogota if you don't mind colder weather. And Cali if you don't mind some danger. Medellin foreigners have a really bad reputation atm but is still the best for networking with other expats

Very interesting story, and fundamentally different approach to mine. Honestly if somebody would rob me using a knife or a gun, I would just give him the stuff and move on. No point risking my life for a few hundred or even thousand bucks. Money and stuff is extremely easily replaceable, my health or life isn't.. so it's a no-brainer for me.
And to be honest, for you it's probably the best thing you've ever done, leaving south america. Because to me it sounds like it was only a matter of time until you basically die there, because your reactions to these situation are a bit crazy and certainly not the optimal strategy for survival in my opinion.

Back in 2011 I owned a precious metals recycling business in Cali, along with a Russian and 2 Colombians and we all had Jericho's 941 on us. Russian lived right by the Policia Nacional in barrio Granada. I lived in a House in La Flora. All it takes is plata homie. I have Residency through an Investors Visa . You do provide a lot of truthful info tho.

There is a line between living safely and living epicly. I don't want to get punked but I'm not going to nominate myself for a Darwin Award either, lol. Much to be said for living to fight another day, but I understand not all of us have that mentality.
I figured you didn't intentionally choose bad ppl, but when you're in a country full of struggling folks even the nicest ppl are going to be acquainted with evil mofos. And the nicest ppl can turn evil if the opportunity is strong enough.
I've been in Medellin for about 1 week now. I really like it so far. Sabaneta & Envigado both felt VERY safe compared to, say, Parque Lleras, which I have been avoiding. I've also been arriving home before midnight every day so far.
As I type this I'm in Laureles, close to La 70. Lots of activity here, but too many homeless and random piles of garbage. Fortunately, the homeless ppl are harmless but I still don't want to see them.

Interesting topic I could dive very deep into but a quick summary:
- Started because naturally my most trusted contacts ended up being from there
- I've always had problems with authority and control and much prefer to survive by own means even though that means taking on massive insecurity so that meant "lawless" places where you have increased freedom but must fend for yourself attract me very much
- Big into personal development particularly the "Hard times create strong men" concept so I've constantly put myself in the most difficult situations possible and achieved massive growth from it
- I'm very into exploring unknown dangerous places my fantasy has always been to live back in the days when the world was unknown
- I want to accumulate as many unique experiences as possible and create a life story movie worthy
Just a little overview, but that long era has ended now I'm more into just keeping a disciplined routine and going through it on repeat day in an day out, getting old I guess lol
