CGCentral HD i think the problems that GOT has after season 4 may have more to do with them running out of source material. With that being said, I still really like GOT. But that could be it for walking dead, because you’re right, 4,5 and even most of 6 range from decent to good.
Angela Kang definitely saved TWD. and The Whisperers story arch is awesome.
Exactly even tho some would call this "filler episode" because we didnt really progress that far in the main story it was well written and had me in the episode the whole time

dude those flashbacks brought me back to why I love this show.
Remember, this was during the early days of the zombie apocalypse. They didn't know that everyone was infected with the walker virus and that people(the dead ones) would come back to life regardless if they got bit or not.

Another great episode from last night's episode of The Walking Dead, this season just keeps getting better and better with each episode!
It was really refreshing to see a flashback of Alpha and Lydia getting to know who these characters are and what they're capable of by what they've been through in the past. I also like the parallels between Alpha and Carol because they are very similar in tone with their stories.
With Tara being the leader of Hilltop, she is making the right decisions so far and is holding her own as a leader.
I'm continuing to love the interactions between Daryl, Henry, and Lydia. Daryl is really shaping up to be a father figure to both characters, especially towards Lydia because her and Daryl are very similar by having an abusive past.
My only complaint about the episode is I really hated Magna and her group disobeyed Tara's orders by going out on a ridiculous rescue mission that lead nowhere, it was really irritating seeing those characters do that.
I was hoping Alpha would arrive to Hilltop in the middle of the episode instead of leaving it at a cliffhanger, but I'm okay waiting until next week to see Alpha and the Hilltop's confrontation.
This season is actually pretty damn great. More invested than I've been in almost 5 seasons.
This season is one of the best of the show, imo.
Lydia has been brainwashed since a child.. imagine believing in an idea your whole life and living for that and being faced with that same belief that proves to be wrong, it's disbelief and shock, challenging everything you've ever believed in. I understand Lydia's perspective on the situation.
5:11, that's Kal. He's been part of Hilltop since we first got there. Kal looks just like Glenn in the comics too.
I'm concerned that Eric thinks the first 8 seasons all took place in 1 year...
Billy THE KID Lawrence I get that you’re stating cold hard facts but the official timeline takes me out of the show so bad. My head canon is that in universe time has been as long as our time with lil time jumps here and there (a week skipped here, a day there, a month etc) whenever it’s quiet. Just doesn’t make sense for all of them to age & change mentally like they have in such a short amount of time.
Season 1 to 8 takes place in just two years which kinda sucks
Even though basically everything Henry does is stupid I actually really like Lydia and have been routing for her from the beginning. I hope she becomes a main character and I REALLY hope she switches sides and becomes part of 1 of are groups. More likely Hilltop or The Kingdom.

The A and B thing is still a mystery. Has nothing to do with Alpha and Beta. I hate that they chose A and B for that Jadis and Rick thing because it creates so much confusion. Anyway, it's no longer a spoiler to say they really don't use names anymore. Lydia told the truth about that. Alpha is more of a title than actual name technically.
And yeah, Lydia was kind of gaslighted by her abusive mother.
Calling it now beta is going to be this crews favorite character...

I get what you guys are saying about the new group doing what they did and after surviving 6yrs they should be smarter but it’s hard to give up on a loved one. Ive heard stories of first responders or family members getting killed when searching for people lost in blizzards. The whispers are worse than a natural disaster but people nowadays are still willingly go into a dire situations for people they love

Eric, I love the Whisperers' theme, too. It gave me the creeps from the moment I heard that sing-songy nursery rhyme song while Alpha was prepping and sewing her mask for that one teaser. I love that their theme is a play on that song.

@Blind wave I hope ya know that Henry letting Lydia out was Daryls idea. Remember only Daryl had the keys and he was using Henry the entire time. It's why when Henry and Lydia were out you can see that Daryl was watching from behind the scene. So it was planned to see how Lydia will react👍

@@wisewolftony I feel that for the sake of continuity and not to insult our intelligence they would in the best-case change Carl's decisions to be a little more intentional and practical if they had him still in the show.
He might make the same mistake following the comics but maybe he would know what he was doing since he's older in the show and more experienced.
at the very least give us a scene with Carl and Daryl setting up this test for Lydia.
Even though that's exactly what got him killed with Sayed

The thing with Lydia changing her world view so quickly is that, not only was she now seeing a world, a community, her mother indoctrinated her for years into believing was impossible, yet here it was, right before her eyes, but also, she had been brainwashed to believe something all her life, then suddenly remembered & realized all that was a lie, & knew what had really happened. She had believed the lie for so long, that she began mixing it with the truth, til those flashbacks, the ones triggered by the baby crying, suddenly showed her what had really happened, & her entire foundation of beliefs was suddenly shaken to the core.

I had the same reaction guys, but she hid because 1. She hadn't been seen by the Whisperers yet because she was on the other side of the crops and 2. If she started running to the gate, Alpha or one of the other Whisperers could have shot her or thrown a knife or something. Nobody knew what they were about to do so she had to make a split second decision.

Ken the asian guy has been around since season 6 and he also is a comic book character, he is not a Glenn clone and he never was similar to Glenn in the comics either, he is just the town cryer/look out. In the comics negan killed him during all out war since he refused to let negan speak to any of the leaders. Only similarities are the fact that he is asian and the actor looks like him in some way.
Man I miss Carl too LOL. Ignoring the idiocy of S8, and even after losing Rick if he were still around? I imagine he'd be totally on board with Daryl here.
"Did she suffocate him?" No, she snapped his neck. There's a snap sound that you can hear just a little bit in that scene.
With Magna's group, what I took from that was that they just needed to at least /try/. That if it went wrong, fine, but at least they made the attempt, because yeah, I'd think if it was our main group from before, we'd feel the same as viewers. We'd want our group to go out to look for someone. They did exactly find for Beth, and while I know that turned out badly and was a case of poor writing, it's the same idea. The whole group went looking for a single person simply because that person was one of them. They just had to try. It didn't work out for Magna's group here, and it didn't work out completely for Rick's group then.
I actually strongly disagree with the "this is Carl's storyline" for the show. Like, I know it's putting the comic storyline into perspective, but if Carl was alive, I'd feel pretty gross with him getting this storyline. It would be terrible treatment to his character. Carl, at this point in the story, would be ~24 years old. Lydia's like sixteen iirc. Not only am I minding the age gap, but I also need to consider Carl would be much more mature than we left him, and even back THEN he wouldn't have done the things Henry did. Comic Carl did, but the show and comic versions are very far removed from each other in terms of characterization. Carl appropriately acted like a thirteen year old in the comics. In the show, he was already older than that when we lost him - forget seven and a half years or more later. If he got this storyline it would be a MASSIVE disservice to his character and undermine all the development he'd had until that point. Not only would I be very uncomfortable with a romance between Carl and Lydia in the show for multiple reasons, but I would feel like it just got thrown in with zero respect for Carl as a character. Also, Carl and Daryl were tight knit, so I can't imagine Carl truly going against Daryl here in the way Henry did. Carl was good at telling people if he agreed or disagreed with someone (and that was as far back as S3 when he told Rick he should stop being the leader, saying to leave things to /Daryl/ and Hershel). I know it's a V E R Y common thing that people say they wish Carl got this storyline, but I'd be so disappointed and disgusted with it I don't even know if I'd want to keep watching the show. I love Carl too much for him to be a now adult character (even if young adult) and get a storyline acting like a child.

Probably one of the best episodes focused around Daryl. I'm glad they revisited his origins because of Lydia, it was good that Alpha and Lydia had some backstory and development, imo Daryl interacting with Lydia and Alpha is an improvement compared to the comics because he knows where Lydia is coming from. We all knew that Lydia was brainwashed in the comics but seeing it on screen was rough, Reedus, Samantha Morton and Lydia's actress killed it this episode. I think they chosed to have the flashbacks from the beginning to get rid of the grey area (the one Negan had), also the twist of the story being in Lydia heard because she was brainwashed was pretty good.
I think henry let her out after talking to Daryl about it offscreen. Daryl and Henri "work together". That's why Daryl was lurking in the shadows, watching them in case something goes wrong (granted he would never be on time if she decided to bash his brains in (Maybe had his xbow on hand))
Also, try using your logics and a bit of imagination in certain situations to fill in the holes the show doesn't have to show. (like Judith suddenly appearing before Negan when he returned). Commen question: "Why is she there by her own?" Well, Negan went back, and he was probably right around the corner of Alexandria. Judith probably heard him miles away (in a zombie apocalypse, there no sound, nothing. You'll hear a bike coming from miles away) and whent to see what was up (probably knowing it's Negan, since she let him out)
Love the contrast of Samanatha Morton's characters she plays. She killed the roll of Alpha!! Lol but everytime I watch the children's show Max and Ruby's with my daughter I hear/think of Alpha ever since 🤣. (She voices Ruby)

Dried bugs just seems kinda normal. I don't view these as "slow episodes" but more like character episodes. Like action vs exposition, each is needed to create a balance story and the discussion less me digest the episode better. It's all appreciated.

I wholeheartedly believe that Daryl and Henry planned to take her out so she could gain Henry's trust and the rest of the group. I refuse to believe that Angela Kang would write Henry to be THAT Naive with Carol & Ezekiel as his parents after doing such a great job writing this season.
Or maybe the the point is that growing up in this world you learn to read people very well, more of an insight into Henry being a good judge of character like Daryl has proven to be in the past like when meeting aaron

Great reaction. My only issue is that a lot of reactors are starting to forget they're using audience knowledge to evaluate a character's actions instead of basing it off of what's actually in character or "in Universe". You have a wide shot where you can see a legion of whisperers but that woman doesn't, so she runs for cover. You're expecting fireforged friends to all just wait and be strategic about a missing person (who canonically went out of his way to rescue a lost survivor), but you forget that in this kind of situation, those people become your new family and its not easy (nor in character) for everyone to forget that because the audience can be removed from the actual scenario. Again, this is a good reaction, its just something that is starting to bug me.
I feel the same way, but I don't blame the reactors totally. Their subscribers/audience is more at fault, imo. They forget that they've already seen the episode before, and are watching ppl who are watching it for the first time. Their audience already had a chance to form an opinion, search out other ppl's opinions, and read/watch reviews on the episodes. And this unfair advantage that their audience have, is shown to be even more ridiculous when it's a finished season, or series, because the end is known to all watching these reactors, so bias on characters are fully formed. And, ppl aren't allowed anymore to fully immerse themselves into a favorite show, because you are supposed to watch EVERYTHING with a HYPER-critical eye. Sorry, but I still like to watch TV for entertainment from the real world tragedies, and not to show how smart I am. I prove my intelligence where & when it counts. Sorry for the rant, but I think it needed to be said. :-)

They did a brilliant job with Alpha. In the comics she felt reasonable and rather polite. I imagined her more classy and intelligent but honestly everytime she shows up she's just terrifyingly creepy in a way no other Walking dead villain has been. The Governor was just psychotic, Negan was just a sociopath with a Messiah complex but they both felt like humans who were just pushed to the edge. The governor more so than Negan. But something about Alpha just screams monster. Like there was never any humanity inside her. She says later on she abused her daughter before the apocalypse so its not like the apocalypse brought on her behavior. You might say she cares for her daughter and in some twisted way that's probably true but she is truly fucked up.
No eye socket licking or banging in a field. 0/10.

If the flashbacks are from the early days of the apocalypse and Lydia is about the same age that Carl was when the series started, shouldn't she look older? she looks about the same age as Henry, but Henry was like 10 when Carl died. Am I missing something?

How did that guy freaking out die? The mom had her hand over his mouth and there is a random crunch noise. It's like in she was trying to suffocate him but her hand wasn't covering his nose. Could have been an error and she was meant to suffocate him but after it had all been shot the editing team noticed she wasn't covering his nose and added a random crunch noise to seem like his neck broke or something

I’ve been waiting for that too. In the comic during this they were still making bullets and were well stocked.
