    Wow what a season premiere!!! This series is very intriguing and also mysterious! The mystery surrounding Laurent is a little strange but so far it's look good! The Nuns seeing Laurent as a Messiah from a prophecy to lead or be a savior for humanity is a very interesting take, we'll see how it all plays out! Let us know your thoughts on Episode 1!

      I was very impressed with this premiere. It was a great start. Loved Isabelle! I thought Norman did a phenomenal job acting and loved how much more open he was and his dialogue. I also thought Cadron was a very believable Villain.

      We're off to a good start! Gotta say I didn't care for the "Messiah" angle, but I guess they had to do something different to avoid being called a last of us clone.

      It's like the old joke:
      Two elderly people, man and wife, are talking. "Sarah, do you remember when we got married? How it rained on our wedding day? You were with me." "Yes, Abe." "And do you remember our first business? It failed, and the bank repossessed our home... and you were by my side every step of the way?" "Yes, Abe, I was. " "And you were there when our son was killed." "Yes, Abe... what is your point?" "Sarah..." Yes, Abe?" "Sarah... you're a JINX!"
      In this case, it's daryl that's the jinx! :D

    99.9% sure they were CRM at the end.
    That snarky cow had the clichéd black uniform and they were receiving specimens.
    Would be great if Daryl had a lead on Rick. But got stuck on their boat instead.
    At least it would show signs of life, and a purpose for his mission. Think he said he was about 20 minutes from Maine, obviously before he ended up on that bigger boat.

    What most people did not see, was the spray painted message on the door of that storehouse: "attention! les affamés ici!" meaning "Caution! The Hungry Ones (are) here!" meaning that les brûleurs (the Burners) are inside. French, like English, has a lot of root words from Latin. You can see this in the word affamés which shares the same root as our words 'famished' and 'famine'. The word for 'burners' brûleurs, shares the same root as our word 'broil' and can also be seen in the popular dessert .crème brûlée or burnt cream.
    As for the acid secreted by the burners, it looks to be about the same strength as our own stomach acid, which is composed of enzymes and hydrochloric acid. The reason WE aren't "eaten" by our own stomachs is due to a thick layer of mucus between the liquid contents of the stomach and the tissues comprising its walls. Acid of that strength will cause significant skin burns, but not be strong enough to eat through concrete. Still, it's etching the surface of the concrete, for sure.
    What the man was shouting, before he attacked the woman was "Arrêt!" 'Halt!' or 'Stop!' Shares the same root as our word 'arrest'.
    Yeah, medically, cauterizing the wound makes NO sense... except to destroy infection...
    Laurent = Eugene 2.0.
    Medieval nuns! I still think they should've used ... nunchuks! :D

  • @nightcited1600
    @nightcited1600 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Laurent seems to have ESP (extra sensory perception) and precognition, which makes sense that, along with his evident high intelligence, would make the nuns think he is some kind of savior of mankind. It also challenges what Daryl believes or doesn't. They've set up lots of directions for this story to go. I am fascinated. Also of note is that the budget for this show is way more than TWD ever dreamed. Norman Reedus is given a chance to shine and does. He's always been my favorite character so I'm all in on this one.

  • @marshatolbert154
    @marshatolbert154 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Messiah means "anointed one." The word "Christos" or "Christ" is the Greek version. Hence, Jesus Christ. Remember that when Jesus's disciples called Him the Messiah, they thought he would be a political leader who would free them from Roman domination. After His crucifixion and (their visions of His) resurrection, they began to conceptualize Him as a spiritual savior. It's possible that the nuns and the leader of their order see Laurent as a spiritual leader who will lead France, and the world, in a spiritual/quasi-political union. I don't think they look at him as a means toward the "cure." They see the entire ZA as a test for humanity.
    I love the cinematography of this episode. The visuals of this episode do more world building than the entire Commonwealth Arc did in 6 months.
    I find it so interesting that the Abbey has clearly existed since before the ZA, perhaps for centuries. The Mother Superior speaks to one of Codron's goons and makes it clear that she has known him since childhood. He seemed so conflicted about killing the zombified Father Jean. The peacefulness of the Abbey is a welcome change to so much of the violence of the series. It reminds me of the convent in which Jean Valjean and Cosette take refuge in "Les Miserables."
    The writers are definitely leaning into the trope that our guys roll up on a new, peaceful location, and promptly wreck it.😂
    Codron and his squad (what is the name of their group? I can't find the spelling), seem to be a local extortion group, a la the Saviors. What's up with that? How long have they been around?
    Isabelle is so interesting. Can't wait to find out more about her. Clemence Poesy is a fantastic actress full of subtle power.
    The Mother Superior gives her blessing to Daryl before she dies. Her death is a powerful symbol of the destruction of the Abbey, and the need to take Laurent and move on to help him fulfill his destiny.
    I know that Daryl is the titular character, but Norman Reedus sometimes does his best work as a supporting actor. Which leads me to wonder, is this Daryl's heroic journey, or Laurent's? Or both?

    Did nobody else notice that sound the last Walker made after Daryl killed it in that room at the beginning?
    It was in the Trailer too.
    Instead of just being killed and dying like normal Walkers, it let out an extra groan when it hit the ground, like a human would.
    It expelled a groan when first hit, then let out an extra groan when it hit the ground. It should've just died instantly, but instead it died like a human taking its final breath.
    Then Daryl started examining its face, maybe to see if it was a Mask or something.
    That's a bit weird.....

    • @olivertaylor-morte8026
      @olivertaylor-morte8026 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @pjnolan7989
      @pjnolan7989 ปีที่แล้ว

      @olivertaylor-morte8026
      But was there not an extra groan when the walker hit the ground?
      Usually the spike to the head would kill them, and that would be it.
      But it looked liked the spike killed him, and then he let out another groan when he hit the floor.
      It's been annoying me since the Trailer because it looks like Daryl heard it too and takes more interest in it.
      I could be reading too much into it but it's been annoying me since the Trailer.
      Suppose we always read a lot into the trailers when we're clutching at straws for any new information.
      Also almost positive that little snarky cow was CRM. With the clichéd black clothes and unloading specimens.

I felt the same with you guys that there are some minor weird nitpick things but the episode was so good I was able to look past it. Also, production value was great! High budget and good writing lately (well, except for Fear, lmao) and it makes it feel like a big event/movie. I'm just glad that Laurent isn't actually immune, cause we've had enough immunity plots in TWDU that turned out to be fake or whatever. Obviously Daryl doesn't believe in what the nuns tell him, but I feel he's already started to care for Isabelle and Laurent, so he'll help them because it benefits both him and them. Most of the guns the bad guys are using are old black powder weapons, which you would find in abundance in European Museums. It’ll mainly be melee weapons found in Europe, museum pieces that saw real combat in the past, that European Survivors could use. But if Daryl makes his way to Eastern Europe, he will find more modern firearms. If I were Daryl, I would piece together a light suit of armor, which would be easy to find in Europe, to counter the Burner Walker Variant.

    I like the messiah angle wit Laurent, I might feel different if he has some sort of actually ability but the religious belief in a younger generation lifting you from the sins of your own isn’t 2 far off. His drawing of “Daryl” coming from the sea can easily be chalked up to him drawing Jesus and Daryl jus has long hair and a beard lmao.

    This is the most excited i have been for a series after seeing the 1st episode. I think he is empathic...not in a mystical way, but being sensitive to the emotions and moods of others (it is a trait some people have), plus he is very observant and intelligent. also sheltered and protected. So, not the messiah but messiah like. Either way i am in.👍AMC

    Loves this, it felt like TWD like I haven't felt in a while. I'm trying to figure out this kid. I got goosebumps when he told Daryll, you deserve a happy ending too. The ending was a little strange and still trying to figure that all out. It would seem Daryll was taken to be experimented on to France. I wondered if they are trying to understand the variety in France more by bringing living, and maybe walkers to France but I'm not sure. The burners are crazy, I wonder what other varieties they have and how they got that way. Could it have something to do with the scene in WB

    • @sylvisterling8782
      @sylvisterling8782 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it had to do with the scene in Tales of the Walking dead, set in Maine. Evidently Daryl went up the coast to Maine for some reason, was captured and put on a ship. The part I REALLY do not understand is this: The ship he escaped from was bound for LeHavre in the NORTH of France. Daryl washed ashore at Marseilles in the SOUTH of France. Which means that somehow he floated THROUGH the straits of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean Sea and then to Marseilles! I am NOT buying that! A human being can only last UP TO five days without water! Unless Daryl had some with him... he would be dead by the time that lifeboat hit shore.

Maybe this is actually the PPP group and may or may not have a connection with the CRM. As far as him floating that far without water idk, maybe he captured rain water somehow or it's just a plot hole that will never be explained, I mean how did Rick survive before he woke up unless it was the nurse from the webisode😂. • @cindyspangler3982
      @cindyspangler3982 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @HIPsteHeero
      @HIPsteHeero ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cindyspangler3982 If they built the ship from scratch, maybe it would be fair, but repairing it like they clearly talked about? For a huge organization like the CRM?
      It's doubtful from waht we've seen. it would take more time to get helicopters working reliably and properly in the amounts they have.
      Besides, not EVERYTHING has to be CRM. I still don't think that the post-credits scene that they showed in World Beyond had anything to do with the CRM either. That Primrose team seemed more like it's own thing, and not the CRM.
      On top of that, the CRM has been more focused on establishing itself across the US and establishing its full plans there, why the hell would they go to France?
      I could be wrong, but I sstill think there's more signs pointing to it NOT being the CRM, than there is that they are.
      And I would prefer a show called Daryl Dixon, to have a story around Daryl Dixon, and set in France be about France, not for the show to basically be another The Ricking Rick: Rick Grimes, oh and there's Daryl too a little bit. lol

    I always like the first seasons of shows when there is a small tight knit cast of characters. as shows, whether TWD, Fear, or even Buffy or the X-Files progress they add more and more characters and the story itself loses intensity because the story gets spread too thin amongst the ever increasing cast. It’s sad that so many of the nuns died for no reason, but it’s good that there is only a 4 person party heading to Paris. In my opinion this was the best pilot episode of any show in TWD universe.
