I’ve started collecting vinyl during lockdown after losing the passion for music in recent years. Actually paying for a record leads me to play the hell out of it unlike when I was downloading 30 albums in one day on Apple Music and never listening to them. I’ve been falling in love with record collecting again and would recommend it to anyone.
You value the tangible more. Digital, as a format, is disposable.
Toaster Boy it used to take a fire to destroy a record collection. All it’ll take now is a digital crash.
@@RickyMacHatton True. It's all easily replaced though. I love my vinyl. Treat it like gold, and have paid through the nose for the soundtrack of my youth. But I do appreciate the convenience of having everything on my watch/phone/laptop etc too...
Toaster Boy there’s something beautiful about a physical copy, I enjoy the artwork, holding something tangible. I’ll buy a single now on digital, but if I’m gonna buy a classic album it can only be a physical record.
I think that’s the worst thing about digital. It’s hard to listen to a whole album for me so imagine what it’s like for a kid who has never done it? Why will people bother with albums when you can just release songs anytime

Record stores are still alive and well in Canada. Vinyl is a big part of their business, but they've also diversified into carrying movies, good quality licensed merchandise, and board games. In fact, the Canadian chain that bought HMV, Sunrise Records, has done exactly that and built an e-commerce presence.
Hopefully the resurgence of vinyl will be a continuous trend. I'm 20 and have been brought up on physical copies. A digital copy maybe convenient but it won't last forever. A real record is something you can admire and appreciate
Summed it right up for me. Spent about 1 hour in this amazing record shop in Dundee yesterday...heaven!!! You can't beat the feeling of having your purchases in that special carrier bag with the record shops logo on it. Wqlking back to the car I was stopped by this guy who asked me where the shop was....you can't get that response and feeling from ITunes and you never will!!!! Well said Noel 👏👌👍🙌😌🙂👏👌👍
100% Right Noel, and Refreshing. I'm glad of living in a Generation growing up in the 80s and 90s living the experience of Cassettes, Records and CD's. Saturday's were about visiting Music Stores in Town. We need to revive the High Street. Boomboxes were something Special.
All Noels vinyls must be in my shelves in my rock n roll collection along with books and films.

Last time that happened to me, I still remember to this day. Hmv in Carlisle one day, just looking around for inspiration and this song comes on. I go to the counter and ask what's playing. 'that's the Libertines mate'. What a day that was!!! 😊😊😊

I loved listening to an entire album start to finish as kinda a whole piece of music how they would fuss over the order of the songs and how they ran into each other. You can anticipate the next song that's coming after listening to it so many times and find lots of hidden gems that way. Better listening experience that way for me.
When Oasis came out in the 90's... CD's were the preferred method of listening to music... but they were on this retro kick and were big proponents of Vinyl even back then before it became the popular thing to have again outside of hipsters.

I still prefer cds but buy vinyl too.... I like the book style cd formats the most

I've never quite understood the record thing until it was described by many TH-camrs, that people don't tend to listen to whole albums together unless they're in that format.
Because I've always been one to download artwork in full quality and listen to albums straight through in order, with the b-sides, haha...

I remember getting and listening to bands whole catalogues was an aim and now I’ve just got it all on my phone! And I definitely don’t listen to music the way I used to. I never sit down and listen now, it’s only when I’m on the go so I listen and I’m constantly skipping and rarely get into anything new so god knows what it’s like for teens!

I'm 21 and any music I have is a physical copy, just the way I was raised, when you wanted a new album that was out you'd go fetch it with yah Mom n Dad, seems like it's more of a cool thing lately which is mint.
I don't own a single digital album unless it's a digital copy from the physical copy.

I tottally agree Noel. Artwork of any kind should not be chopped ,reduced or miniturized or minimized at any level because thats someones idea and thought. when you reduce thier artwork your reducinging their vision ,their Ideas ect.
Fucking preach it 🙌 if we are gonna be in the streaming age for the long run, then to keep music and musicians going there needs to be ways to keep record shops alive cuz they're very much a niche thing right now. I'm a musician looking for people to meet and talk to about music and record shops are a great way to do that and need to be recognised more
Best album I have in my collection is Blonde on Blonde by Bob Dylan. I must have been 17 or so when I bought it, 4 years ago. The best part about that physical album is that it’s older and wiser than I was back then, and it’s still like that today. When you open the album, there’s a picture of someone’s cat blue tact’ed onto the first page and on the cover is a worn out sticker that says ‘I stole Bob Dylan’s comb’. I never got the opportunity to steal Dylan’s comb, but I regret it now cause I certainly need one. You don’t get a feeling like that through iTunes or Spotify. You gotta wear your heart on your sleeve with physical records, it’s shows people who are and what you’re all about.

I'm 25 and enjoy buying and listening to vinyl. I think the main reason why people nowadays don't get into it is the price. Most are ridiculously overpriced. I went to a market at the tail end of the second lockdown and regular 2nd hand records were being sold for 25 euro each, mostly well known music that isn't really that interesting. I love collecting but it's a niche now and I can see why a regular consumer of music would be happy enough with with Spotify account for a 10er a month.

Was in my local Independent record store today had a chat with a guy in a band they are having some of Noels numbered records in and due to it being a small store they are sold out of tickets to go in on that day but I can collect a record next week.

I spent many a happy stoned hour trying to dissect what the artwork on an album meant. Long live the LP
I was having a conversation with my wife the other day about how the digital medium has made music more accessible and provided more opportunities for musicians to gain exposure, but unfortunately at the same time it has made it more disposable.
To be a recording artist in the past, record companies had to scout and make damn sure you were good before they would bother pulling bands into the recording studio. A lot of time and money to cut tracks and if you messed up on an analog recording, not as simple as “delete and try again.”
Same thing with going to digital photography....i used to be way more calculated when shooting film, but with digital I’m shooting photos to no avail when I go out. No recourse to messing up, just shoot more...
I fee like we are missing out on finding true big talents these days and watering down the whole experience.
