    This episode means a lot to me. My Nan loved OFAH so we played the audio of 'Cwying' at her funeral. I've never seen so many people at once trying not to laugh including the vicar! Brilliant piece of television.

    As Stephen Fry said in a conversation about the difference in UK vs US comedy; America's comedy heroes are all wise guys who get the girl and improve their life etc while Britain embraces the undignified characters whom life endlessly craps on. Delboy is a perfect example of that.

    • @e-122psi3
      @e-122psi3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean Delboy is still a wiseguy who gets the girl and improves his life, just there's a LOT of self inflicted obstacles along the way. :P

    I can remember sitting on the floor near the telly when this was first on,, as I was the remote control, and being sprayed with tea from my dad laughing so much at cwying, oh happy days, he's been gone nearly 20 years now, and I miss him everyday.

    As someone with dyspraxia who has been to speech therapy the thing I love about this is episode is that Tony is not the butt of the Joke. and his voice isn't the Joke it's the fact that Del promised a gangster a great show and ended up with Tony.

    Something is bugging me though about a line that I remember as something different. When Del Boy is talking about Rodney's absence in government records, he said "But where's Rodney gonna say he's been for the last 10 Years? In the toilet?"
    Except, that was NOT the line! " In the toilet" is supposed to be "on safari... (in Kenya?)"!
    Wierd change!

    I always thought "Tony" might have been partly based on John Otway - another singing dustman with more enthusiasm than talent, who went bald fairly early, and who sometimes impersonates Tom Jones (badly) - but his only speech impediment is a slight lisp, no rhotacism. Anyway Phil Pope's talent as a singing impressionist is well-documented - he was one of the musical parodists behind Spitting Image, and he was one of the HeeBeeGeeBees.
