Albert's speech about his childhood always chokes me up a bit... My grandad grew up in Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria, near the shipyards. He was evacuated during the war because of the bombing. After the war he did some time working in the shipyard, and then joined the Merchant Navy as an apprentice engineer. On the Palm Line carrying goods up and down West Africa, stopping in Cape Town, the Canary Islands and Naples. He was on a steam ship called the Ashanti Palm... I looked it up and found out it was lost in a storm just a year or two after he left. No-one was hurt, but the wreck is still in Naples harbour apparently. Just like Albert he had loads of stories about it... I really miss him, and I wish I could talk to him about it now.
Yeah that speech was one of the best parts of Only fools. Very true too. Rich people dont care about childhood memories and the young people who died in the war.
Your OFAH reactions are up there with your inbetweeners and peep show ones, love it. This show really was and still is so special and definitely the most iconic british comedy going
The song is called ‘Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey’ by Paul McCartney. Forever I couldn’t help but think the middle spoken word bit was John Cleese. Sounds exactly like him. But apparently that was done by Paul McCartney too.
Just to clarify based on what a few people have commented, the song Uncle Albert wasn't a Wings song, it's credited to Paul & Linda McCartney, and pre dates the formation of Wings by several months 🙂👍
@@AndrewDixonMusic I would assume he was probably forming or thinking about the Wings project at the time and perhaps had guest musicians and stuff in the pipeline. Although it is technically a solo record. Definitely one of his best!
This is probably the only episode i never saw which is crazy considering i saw every episode a hundred times, but for some reason this episode never aired in my country..
The 2 lines that has me in stitches every time are
"Whose there?" "Knock knock"
And
"Knock knock knocked him out"
🤣🤣🤣
The 'who's there' gag is genius. Gets me every time. 🤣🤣
@@dalewalford2630 it's the look on Del's face that gets me 🤣
LOL =]
Buster merryfield (Uncle Albert) was actually a child boxing star in the 1930's.
I never knew that , cool
And a P/T in the forces
And the Peckham rye astronaut school 🏫😁❤️🇮🇪
Buster was a boxer, bank manager and actor. What a life.
Not a child boxing star, the army champion

05:23 They used to be a subculture of teenagers in the '50s, they typically dressed up like Edwardian dandies and played music such as Elvis Presley.
