Cupcakes are probably the perfect way to end a heavy tour like Robben Island. I'm listening to Nelson Mandela's autobiography now. Such a powerful book and history. Thanks for sharing the experience and the history!
Thanks guys. Thats amazing that you are listening to his documentary. He was such a hero here in South Africa. We are so happy that finally got to visit Robben Island.
The tour of Robben Island would definitely be on my list of must do's if I visit South Africa. So much history...and it must be an even more powerful experience to hear it from people that were actually imprisoned there. So crazy to see where the prisoners slept and what they ate. Glad you were able to end the day with cupcakes to give you a boost of energy...they are so adorable, especially the poo emoji one!
OMG only 2 blankets per person! I don't think I'd be able to survive that! Oh WOw! Nelson Mandela's actual cell. That is quite the site to experience. There is so much history there and it is definitely on our list of places to go visit. I think the bakery is by far our favorite! The cupcakes are so cute! POOP CUPCAKE for the WIN! You are right too! We haven't seen much history tours, but this was quite special!!
Can't believe your your guide was a prisoner there for 7 years, I imagine it must be difficult at times but also important for him to share first hand experience. Send like a week organized excursion to the island. Also way to proactively know you were going to jump back a day in your edit. Such a good transition :)
So much history on that beauty island, wow. Interesting to see Nelson Mandela's cell. Like how you mentioned a lot about history in this video. Also good tip on the bakery, will try their cupcakes when we get there one day!
The Robbin Island tour was full of history! It was very interesting to learn about the town now too. I am glad you were able to change your plans to see the castle when the tour was cancelled. I was also excited for you to try those cupcakes, they looked delicious. I would have a hard time choosing one!
Thanks guys😁. We were so glad that they provided us an easy change of date for our trip. It was such an awesome two days to see the castle and Robben Island 😁. Those cup cakes were amazing!
Guys you captured so much of the beauty/heartache of Robben Island. So great to see the rest of the Island on camera, well done guys. You really captured the heart and soul. The Castle looked amazing and so intriguing. What did you find better? Watching you guys at Charlies bakery, Kelby wants to go back.....HEHEHE. Great stuff guys. ONE LOVE
Thanks guys. Robben Island was our favorite. The weather on the day was perfect! Charlie's was sooooo good. So much sugar 😅. I'm sure you guys can agree that Robben Island is a definite must if you are ever in Cape Town!
It seems like such an incredible history tour. I'd love to see it if I ever get to South Africa. Interesting too that they had former prisoners do the tours. Love the wine tram!! And my hubby would love that poop emoji cupcake 🤣
Did this tour back in 2006 - can’t believe it’s 15yrs ago! Great video and great reminder of some profound moments. Never been much into organised tours but hearing from the former prisoners was really impacting. Love your channel guys 👍
Thanks so much Stuart! We also don’t often do organised tours, but so glad to have been able to walk around with a former prisoner and hearing all about his experience. Thanks for watching 😊
It’s so strange when places make you sit separately when you arrived as a couple🙃 we’ve seen ferries that do the same in Greece. Robben Island looks so fascinating, prison tours are always so harrowing and interesting! The castle looked cool too, the weather looked so beautiful both days. The sign ‘Mucking Afazing Cakes’ made me laugh 😂
WOW! Such a historical place in South Africa. It's really cool that you guys got to do this. We tried to do this tour once but unfortunately it was closed at that time. It definitely looks like a tour worth taking! And your guide was imprisoned there for 7 years himself 😱 Really cool to see your experience of Robben Island. Great video guys! 😄
I honestly think it's so silly to make you sit separate with a seat in the middle when you live together! Looks like a good tour! Crazy that the tour guide was a prisoner! I love castles!!! Can't beat cupcakes at the end of the day! The poop cupcake 😂😂 Great vlog guys!!
It was ridiculous that we couldn't sit next to each other😅. However we didn't complain. The whole experience was amazing and it was really cool having an ex prisoner as a tour guide.
The tour guide was a prisoner...OMG. That has to be so personally powerful for him. So many questions now about how well people understood & understand the change that was needed, and what residue still remains of apartheid in people’s hearts and in life there. So many questions that come from outsiders like us, 14,000 km away.
Thanks Jay. It was very interesting to hear what is was like on the inside from our tour guide. He was really good and it was so hard to hear how so many political prisoners were arrested based on their beliefs and trying to create a free country. Nelson Mandela was a hero to South Africa!
We're a bit similar, didn't do too many historical tours as we travelled, but the more we travel and learn the more we want to know, so definitely keen to see more this style coming from you guys 😁
Wow I can't believe your tour guide was actually a prisoner on Robben Island! Incredible that he would want to come back and be a tour guide there. I can't wait to do this tour someday. We actually just watched Invictus last night, so it's cool to now see you guys do the Robben Island tour! It looks like such a powerful experience to be able to walk through the place where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years. Seeing the little mats they were given to sleep on is just so incredibly sad
Thanks for the tour! I saw that another prisoner was doing the tour for Kelby and Adam when they went to Robben Island.. Do you know if all of the tours done by former inmates? What a unique perspective for a tour!
Oh hahaha I guess you just answered that haha - cool that they live there too. But yeah, such a shame that such a beautiful place has such a dark past. At least the place has been preserved so that people remember and learn from the past.
Nice video, but what's with the Arabic/ Sahelian music? I think having South African music from one of the South African groups (Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana,Ndebele etc) would have been more appropriate. The music was seriously off-putting. Great job otherwise and learned quite a few things. And I am Cameroonian by the way...
Such history wow
It really is the most amazing history! And to see the prison in person was really cool!

We have been dreaming about South Africa for long! After this vlog we are dreaming even more :-D
We hope you can make it one day..maybe after you’ve traveled to every country in Europe 😁

Love from India North-east Tripura
We need educated guides not guides that never grew up nd lived in Capetown. The Original people that knows the history are Coloureds from Capetown.
I’d like to live in that island like those ex-prisoners,a peaceful life with old buddies. No crime we all living

Sorry you didn’t like the music. Unfortunately there aren’t any copyright free South African music 😭
