  • I had a true fanboy moment when I got to spend a few minutes chatting with Brent Spiner at Eternal Con on Long Island. We spoke for a while off-camera as well, and he is surprisingly funny and irreverent. In any case, this was one of those times when I was truly grateful that I get to do some of the things that I do. Many thanks to Eternal Con for having me, and to my buddy Mark Boutros for running camera and tech.

Sadly, the only thing truthful Spiner said was, “there is no comedy”. It’s pretty well known that he generally loathes TNG fans and hates answering TNG related questions. Check out other interviewers, including a young man who wasn’t old enough (or maybe didn’t follow TNG), he put this kid through the wringer. Never get to know your hero’s I guess.
It was a good interview, and I’m shocked that he actually answered some questions without a sarcastic response.

That's not true at all lmao, his sense of humor is very dry and sarcastic but that doesn't mean he hates TNG questions. He's answered many questions in thoughtful honest ways but I'm sure it gets old having to answer the same questions over and over again the same way so I understand if he would rather joke about it. If he truly hated any questions to do with Star Trek he wouldn't go to so many conventions, because that's clearly what he's best known for.

He also has said multiple times that 99% of his interactions with fans has been positive. So you're just wrong all around lol

@@HelenAdara- Heh, wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. But yea, IIRC, he gets paid to be at those cons, he's not doing them for free. I also speak from personal experience that he just wasn't personable at the ones that I've been to. (Maybe he was having some off days, happens to all of us) Take it with a grain of salt though, all of this is subjective. To some, his sarcasm is funny and to others it's off putting.

@@Knight21030 I am aware he gets paid to be at these cons, but there are other ways to make money and if he were absolutely miserable interacting with star trek fans and answering questions about it he wouldn't do them. He has stated so many times how lucky he feels to have gotten to play such a good character and be in star trek. He said it at a q&a I was personally at. Just because you don't like his sense of humor doesn't mean you should be trying to spread unfounded rumors about how he feels about his fans and star trek in general.
