The true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a struggling salesman from Illinois, met Mac (John Carroll Lynch) and Dick McDonald (Nick Offerman), who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. Kroc soon maneuvers himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a multi-billion dollar empire.

Ray Kroc, a salesman in 1954, struggles to market multimixers milkshake machines to local drive-in restaurants nationwide. But, no matter how hard Ray tries, he can't seem to win over these locations meanwhile experiencing their awful services.
After leaving a restaurant disappointed, Ray calls June from his sales company and learns there is a drive-in out in California, Mcdonald's, who wants to buy six mixers. Ray phones the restaurant, thinking there must be a mistake, and is told that the order of six machines was incorrect and that they want to purchase eight!
Ray is intrigued by the call and heads his way to San Bernardino, California, where he discovers a little McDonald's. Ray joins a long queue and is taken aback by how quickly his order is delivered and how cleverly they use throwaway food packaging. As he is eating, Ray is accompanied by Mac McDonald, who then offers him a tour of his small stand. Ray is amazed to witness the stringent standards they apply to prepare the food and the specially built serving utensils that enable them to attain speedy service. To hear the story behind this remarkable restaurant, Ray offers them to join him at the dinner.
