He wasn't pretending to be "stupid"...He was pretending to be uneducated... There's a difference...

A slavemaster is NOT a landlord. Patsy DID NOT have a job. . .she was enslaved.

This movie deserves so much more than a robot with no emotions and incorrect inflections. There were also many incorrect terms and language used. Solomon didn't drink too much, he was drugged. Solomon did not change his name to Platt, he had that name forced upon him by the people who enslaved him. Eliza's crying did not make Solomon "uncomfortable", it was so much more than that. Tibeats is pronounced "Tibets" not "Tie-beats"... The guys who were hanging Solomon wouldn't have to pay with their lives, the problem the overseer was having with them was that Solomon's life wasn't theirs to take. Epps's is not grammatically correct. When introducing Patsey, why is she listed as "Patsey's"? Mrs. Epps threw a crystal decanter at Patsey, not TO her. THE MEN HANGING THE SLAVES IN THE WOODS AND ALL THE MASTERS AND MISTRESSES WERE SLAVE OWNERS, NOT LANDLORDS... (wtf?). OMG AND ARMSBY WAS NOT A SLAVE, HE WAS HIRED AND PAID TO WORK. This video is really pissing me off! Solomon did not visit Armsby in his room. Did you not see all the other slaves in the same cabin? OMG why do they keep referring to Armsby as a slave, even saying he chose to become a slave? No one chooses to become a slave. AGAIN, HE WAS HIRED HELP! Brad Pitt's character was named Bass, not Base. And they were building a gazebo, not a house. Solomon wasn't an "independent" man from NY, he was a free man. And while it doesn't say exactly how long it took for Mr. Parker to come rescue Solomon, I'm sure it wasn't several years. No one said the law had been changed, they were allowed to take Solomon because he had free papers. Again, Solomon never changed his name, so he didn't change it back either. Solomon was ALWAYS his name.

Slaves were mostly born into those horrific and unfortunate circumstances. If you say "he pretended to be stupid", it seems as if you are implying that slaves were actually stupid.

Why describe the movie like this? He dod not chose to 'pretend' to be a slave, he was double crossed and knowingly sold as a free nan. TOLD to act stupid not say could read bc the slave drivers did not like this.

I like how he says "Soloman.. who then changed his name to Platt..." instead of saying had his name changed ...& he goes from saying "Tibeats" to saying "Tye-beats"

It wasn’t about them believing him. They knew he was free they just wanted him to be their slave so they could sell him without any trouble!

I just wonder how many black people that happened to and they never got to speak or were free this hurts me so much to know that these were my ancestors tortured for life and had no justice.

There actually used to be slave wranglers who used to target freed slaves in remote or rural areas to bring them to a plantation in the South. Not that far of a stretch from reality, this movie.

"I felt like anything rather than rejoicing at the downfall of a foe who had fought so long and valiantly, and had suffered so much for a cause, though that cause was, I believe, one of the worst for which a people ever fought, and one for which there was the least excuse." - Ulysses S. Grant about General Robert E. Lee's Surrender.
