    For those of you wondering about why McDonald's ice cream machines are always broken there's actually a reason for this. There's a video on TH-cam that describes how they have to buy their machines from s particular company and that company purposely makes it hard to fix the machines when they go down so that vendors are forced to call them to come repair it snd which makes the ice cream machine company more money. Instead of continuously spending money on it, most McDonald's just choose to not have it fixed very often.

      I worked at McDonald’s when I was a teen and my coworkers would always tell me that if someone asked for an ice cream in the drive thru to tell them that it was broken bcuz they didn’t want to make it. So yes this is true but I always wonder if they just say that bcuz they don’t wanna make one 🤣

      You're both right. The only reason I know is because I'd given up on life in a deep period of depression feeling that I wasn't worthy for a job in my line of work (machinist) and didn't have a car at the time. I had to get a job, any job and McDonald's was a block away and they hired me the same day as maintenance personnel (classy title but it's basically a janitor/cleaning services). Most drive through employees refuse to make the shakes due to the machine automatically shutting off for a cleaning cycle (both an automatic self clean as well as an employee cleaning it) about twice a day (every 12 hrs) and they're/employees are expected to do it while running the drive-thru/counter at the same time for minimum wage. The company that they're forced to operate with (same company that sells them that you mentioned) use "planned obsolescence" (sh*tty parts) to force repairs from time to time and just like a Tesla or an iPhone, if anyone aside from their employees open the insides or disassembles it, the warranty is void and it can't be fixed because the only place that makes replacement parts is the same people that sell them. It's shady af and somehow McDonald's is stuck with the contract.

      the codes are hard to understand, the manuals are thick, and any of many little mistakes and the machine goes through lengthy processes out of the operator's control.
      The display/input/etc. looks many decades old, it's not 'user friendly'...like you said, people are making money off of the machines being hard to use and so the store calling technicians (prescribed, they can't get 3rd party) in.

    • @doddsino
      @doddsino 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The brothers STARTED McDonald's on the basis of becoming millionaires before they turned 50. That didn't happen. When Ray Kroc started to work for them and expanded the business to 200 restaurants, he offered to buy their company, which the brothers agreed to for 1.3 million each. Despite not having the gross receipts to pay them that, Kroc took out a loan from 4 companies to pay the brothers. This loan would would be concurrent with the revenue McDonald's would generate until it was paid off, meaning the sooner the better for Kroc. This happened in 1961. The loan wasn't paid off until 1972.
      So no...Kroc wasn't greedy. In fact, he made more millionaires than anyone else before him. Kroc also donated all his money to charity when he died. I can't say the same for Dick and Mac.

    Perhaps you should read the book "Behind the Arches" before casting judgment on Ray solely based on a Hollywood movie. Yes he was visionary. Yes he was a cunning businessman. But he is the reason the franchise model became what it is today. He was relentless to make every store conform to the high standards he set. To gain control of the franchise he cut two checks for one million dollars each to the McDonald brothers per their request by the way. An unheard of sum at the time. He hated writing those checks but It was the only way to ensure he had the final say.

      Ummm...Dick didn't do very much at all. The Speedy System predated McDonald's by 20 years through White Castle. Neither brother trademarked the name, didn't draw up contracts very well, nor did they care about franchise quality (unlike what the movie shows).
      This is why the quality was all over the place in each restaurant.
      Dick and Mac also refused to be hands on with their business, only preferring to run their restaurant. They didn't mind most of the changes that Kroc asked about, but he needed both of them to sign off on anything that he did, making expansion incredibly tedious.
      Under Kroc;
      1. Quality at all restaurants was consistent. Everyone abided by the same menu, prices and bought from the same vendor.
      2. Trademarked the name. Made sure that no one could steal the property of McDonald's.
      3. Made most of his franchisees millionaires, was hands on with every restaurant he opened, saw the value with inside seating, menu expansion, the drive thru and especially marketing.
      With Ray Kroc, McDonald's would have been DEAD by the end of the 1960's.
