Mid 1990's. I was pulling up a shrimp trap in my kayak near Squally reach of Finlayson Arm. A Basking shark passed three boat lengths starboard. Leisurely is the only description for its locomotion. So glad you had that experience.
Had one follow me a couple metres behind when kayaking as a biology student. Had no idea it was so rare!
