Flysky FS ST8 Transmitter Compared with Spektrum NX6

  • A low cost alternative for a highly functioning RC plane transmitter is evaluated, showing what the settings are and comparing it with the Spektrum NX6 transmitter. The Flysky FS-ST8 is shown to be a good low cost alternative, even though it is lacking some of the features provided by Spektrum NX radios. Note that this is a review of the "standard" version. There is now an upgraded version that has a "shoulder wheel" control and provision for two keys on the back. Also, the firmware in this review is old. The current version apparently has provision for a reduced power range check. We will try that out and update our review soon. We also have some three position switches on order, and will try installing those and show you what's involved. Finally, we have made enquiries about "Hall Effect" gimbals. Firmware is available for them. So, subscribe and keep checking to see what new things we have to help you.

    range test is the most important thing in my opinion!
    Yes, of course including that it performs the servo commands!

      I understand what you are saying about the trees. We have them all around our flying field. A couple of times we have even had someone crash into the tree over the pit area!

    I separate my ailerons on separate channels on all of my planes. That way, you can have differential ailerons if needed, meaning. You can have your air on, go up further than it goes down, some planes need that.

      @RCJim  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it is a good way to go as long as you have enough channels on your radio!

    Hi Jim, after checking out you're very helpful ,,,,,How to Design your Motor + ESC + Battery Combination for Electric Flight,
    my I ask how would I work out, everything that I need to make a plane , that has to carry and drop a 10 kilo pay load , and need s to have a 100 kilometres flight range, sorry even after following you're example I still can't work out what I need to do so that I may start putting a to buy parts list together , thanks for all your excellent uploads

    You are kind of complaining about the stick height on those radios. All radio sticks are adjustable. You can make them longer or shorter. There's a lock net on top where the sharp part is. You hold it underneath tight and turn the sharp heart to the left. That unlocks it, and then you just spin it out to make it longer. You spin it in to make it shorter. I thought everyone knew that.

      @RCJim  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks - I'm heading out the the garage to check that on this radio right now!

    • @RCJim
      @RCJim  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As expected, you are right! On the Flysky, the stick is 25 mm as shipped. Lengthing it as much as what seemed practical, I got it to 30 mm. The Spektrum as shipped is 32 mm. And, as you describe I'm sure that can be made longer - I just wasn't able to do it with my fingers.

    Hello, How do you connect the receiver...only CH1, CH2, CH3 with the power from de ESC and CH4? Do you use 3S battery?

    • @RCJim
      @RCJim  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Starting with channel 1, the order is: aileron, elevator, throttle, and rudder. Power is provided through the throttle connection, which comes from the ESC. Given that you have power from there, you do not use another battery to power the receiver. If power was not being provided by a BEC (battery elimination cirucuit) in the ESC, then it could be provided by a 2S battery plugged into any of the connectors on the receiver.

    • @RCJim
      @RCJim  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that’s right. You need to use the Flysky receiver.

    • @RCJim

      That’s to say, the eight channel receiver that goes with it.

    4 AA Batts is only 6 volts are you certain this radio will handle a 2s lipo that is 8.4 volts when fully charged? I blew up a Futaba T-8FG Super doing this very thing because I thought it would take it. The damn thing started smoking. Now it's a parts radio.

      It's hard to know, but one would hope that the manufacturer is not telling us a furphy. (Aussie slang, for something told as being factual, widely believed - at least for a while, but totally wrong!)

    For the money i think flysky is awesome..... Ive only used the fs-i6x and it's a lot more than a 6 channel TX...... I truly don't understand why pay almost 9 times more for a dx6 or more for the nx6 and then the over priced RX etc etc ...... Such a great alternative if you're frugal and don't need the T-shirt or neckstrap 😉🙃😎 NZ

      Yes, I've been using mine for a good while now. I've only had one possible glitch, and that could have been a burst of wind as I was over trees rather low on a windy day. Unfortunately, mine doesn't have a range check. I would really like to have that.

    with the greatest respect who's better

    • @RCJim
      @RCJim  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi David, I think I pointed out that apart from lacking the two extra channels, the Spektrum is better. So, I'm certainly not advocating trashing a Spektrum to go out and by a Flysky. But the main point is that there is a lower pricing point for someone coming into the hobby who is still serious about his or her flying. Of course, I'm still testing to see if any issues arise. I'm about to re-maiden my VQ SBD, and I'll be using the Flysky radio & the V-Good 100A ESC. Given that I paid something on the order of $200 for the second hand, but never flown plane, put a little over $100 into the motor, adding in the $130 for transmitter and receiver and another $30 for the ESC, that would get someone in the air with a serious model for close to $500 (allowing a bit extra for some generic LiPo's}. And, I could have saved more by getting a generic brand motor.

      thanks all. If my choice I ll still go for spektrum. Something I learned from the hobby is to wait a bit and get the suitable item. I spent a lot on getting basic then upgrading ending up in paying twice. To make it easier I see Spektrum like iphones, Radiomaster / flysky are like Samsung mobiles. Of course there are other high end like, spektrum ix20, jeti and multiplex but this is another story. NXs series are amazing systems.

      @@user-rx8qq8sk9ydv1ce5ib You may be right. I put the Flysky into the SBD that I just restored, and crashed it after one circuit. Unknown whether it was a radio failure or pilot brain fade. I’ll put up a video about it.

    • @RCJim
      @RCJim  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Richard, No, it doesn't bind to the Spektrum receivers that I have tried with it. But, you can get an 8 channel Flysky receiver for under AU$30 - significantly less in US$.
