    I always feel like Ned pushes so hard because he also has a Targaryen child under his wing and if Robert can do this to a little girl and her unborn baby, what's to stop him from doing it to his "bastard". I think that Ned is more not testing Robert, but pushing him so hard on this because he wants so desperately, if Jon is ever found out, that Robert will not decide to kill Jon. Possibly, him too for harboring a Targaryen, with the most legitiment claim to the throne, all this time. Robert is not the same Robert from the rebellion. And I think Ned is really worried about that.

    • @Athenia
      @Athenia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Piper Wright yeah, in some ways, Ned's way doesn't make any sense cuz that's how power works in their world--it's hereditary so obviously Dany is a threat. But I think he knows too that if Robert knew he was harboring a Targaryn kid, his whole family would probably be killed.

    • @cbabygags2553

    just wanted to say I love sophie turner's subtle acting in the last two episodes. especially the shot of her eyes when she surprisingly taunts joffrey when he makes her look at ned's head. I think she was pretty good for a 13/14 year old actress. thanks for the revisiting videos! really liking them.

    RE: Why were Ned and Robert ever friends question... these are two men who haven't seen each other in more than a decade. They also have a lot more responsibility than they did when they were kids. They likely have changed a lot. If I had to hang out with my old high school friends esp in the context of making weighty decisions I'm not sure we'd get along like we used to either.

    This episode re-positioned the major characters, centered them. The story had started as the opposition of the good Starks and the bad Lannisters, now we got to see the other side of the argument. Robert might hate the Targaryens but his reasoning about the danger of a Dothraki invasion is sound. He is a former rebel and cannot afford being put in competition with a legitimate looking alternative. The danger is much greater than Ned sees it and Robert is not just a hateful drunk.
    Then we learn that the Lannister's support is actually what kept him on the throne and the realm at peace. They are objectively the good guys, the family who came up for half the Crown's expenses in the past 17 years. Robert's and Cersei's marriage is a political success at least.
    Then we see Varys telling Ned half the truth on one side and conspiring to support Viserys on the other. No matter what Varys will tell anyone in the future, we know he cannot be trusted.
    Tyrion was captured on a likely false suspicion and Jaime's reaction at the end is all too legitimate.
    Past this episode, there is no more a good and a bad side in the story. It is time for viewers to question their sympathies and reassess their positions.

    14:27 Yeah, Tyrion and Cersei did it a lot of times, Cersei and Sansa too, just before the Battle of Blackwater... or when Cersei was telling Sansa that only her kids were a motivation to stay alive...
    At that moment, each time, it was touching, emotional. Like a confession between a priest and a sinner. No judgment, only listening and understanding. Even compassion, from two people who hate or despise each others, but happen to cross the same life miseries...

    The writing suffers later b/c GRRM stops helping the staff in order to finish TWoW. Early in the video, the two of you remarked that Sofie Turner's acting isn't good. I have to disagree. She's especially good when realizing they're going to kill Lady -- her freak out is nothing less than perfect! And the way she eyeballs Joffrey on the bridge as he's forcing her to look at her father's head is both contemplative and murderous !! She's good in this season and better as they progress. Having said that, I love these reviews as well as the revisits -- they've inspired me to do a rewatch of my own. :)

    Dodgeball is a good movie and it was overshadowed by Anchorman that year. I was in Iraq in 2004 and Mr. Vince Vaughn was doing the rounds for the USO meeting the troops and promoting the Dodgeball movie. The whole time he was at our FOB, people kept asking him about working with Will Farrell and why his role in Anchorman wasn't bigger and if he would do a sequel and all that. He was so pissed, no one wanted to talk about Dodgeball. Then a bunch of officers kept him awake the rest of the night and he just wanted to sleep.

    • @soulemful
      @soulemful 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      She is supposed to be annoying, however I found this as a constant for Sansa's character throughout the books. Show Sansa does have a season where she matures more, but that maturity came with her loosing her innocence, something book Sansa still has. Book Sansa's innocence is her only saving grace in my opinion, but show Sansa, from season 5 and on, is by far a better character. Still, I hate what happened to her in season 5.
      Sophie Turner has done a great job portraying Sansa Stark, it just sucks that Sansa isn't a great character.

    These reviews are entertaining and I do appreciate the effort and the insight."BUT"sometimes I wonder how much you guys paid attention to the "small details"? Robert and Ned were both fostered by John Arryn of the Eyrie and grew up together. That's where Ned was when his father and older brother died in King's landing. The one BIG issue in GOT is the lack of feeling how much time has passed between each "trouble/problem" and answering help. Rhaegar took Lyanna and then she got pregnant--about 10 months by the time John was born. Winterfell to King's Landing is about 1,500 miles--on horseback or foot that's weeks of travelling. Messages had to go one way and then back. 1,500 miles as the crow flies is still 1,500 miles. It's about 650 miles from Winterfell to Castle Black. Bravos and King's landing are, maybe, 700+ miles--they stood on the deck of the ship the whole way? AND Lannisport and the Iron Islands are on the other side of the Westeros CONTINENT. Ships go around, overland is shorter, but still across the continent. All the distances are guessing calculations done by GOT fans and biggest question is:what is the distance of a league? Thank you for letting me vent on this pet peeve of mine. Valar Morghulis

    I’m beginning to believe that bran put the idea of wildfire underneath kings landing for the final meeting we will see, because it accomplishes two important things; 1. Gives Danny closure on her father, that he went mad for the greater good, not from an evil place. 2. It really adds full depth to Jamie’s action killing the mad king...not only did he save the millions that day, but he saved all of humanity’s future because it preserved the wildfire for when it was intended to be used, against the night king, this gives an easier path for Danny to forgive Jamie for what he did to her father. Also, it could be said that not only did Jamie save everyone that way, but by pushing bran out of the window, he created the situation that allowed bran to accomplish setting the wildfire up...ALSO...this opens the door to jamie killing Cersei when he blows the wildfire with her inside the red keep, and it will become clear that unbeknownst to himself, Jamie was accidentally the light bringer and hero who literally single handedly (pun intended) was the hero of all humanity, setting the stage for ending all the conflicts that threatened the realm in one fail swoop. And if you say that Jon and Danny give Jamie the order to go light the fuse, you then have azor ahai bringing light bringer into the final battle and suddenly that scene where jojin (sp?) told bran he’d know light bringer when he saw him while holding up one hand that looked ablaze will suddenly make full sense! And we’ll get our three sides colliding battle at the end in epic fashion as the final battle is against Cersei and the night king simultaneously in kings landing!
    This is my final theory, I like what I’ve put together here and I’m sticking to this as my personal prediction...make a note in case I’m right! Sorry for the convolution and awful grammar, this was all a stream of thought I was just having because the dots get easy to connect if you assume bran gives Aryes the wildfire idea that drives him mad, and I typed as I had the stream of thought. I’m 90% sure I’m around the ballpark of what’s going to happen...arrogant I know...anyhow, I’m stopping my stream of thought now. Anyone on board with me and want to discuss?
    His hand was cut off the first “tempered” attempt
    His soul broke in the second attempt
    He becomes light bringer when the third time he kills the woman he loved. And his King’s guard page gets filled
    Jesus, the more I think about this with the evidence, more hanging pieces fall into place.

    10:21 Young Griff isn’t introduced until book 5, and book 5 came out after Season 1 aired. That said, GRRM was heavily involved during production of Season 1 - as evidenced by GRRM’s insistence that Rickon be included in season 1 (he was originally going to be written out) - so it’s possible that he told the showrunners about Young Griff ahead of Book 5’s release

    I read somewhere (tho I don't have the source or something to backing it up) but that scene you guys liked with Robert talking alone with Cersei was added 'cause D&D needed to fill more time and those actores were available at the time (plus the decoration for that was very basic, basically just a room)
