  • Fontana, California Werner Enterprises Terminal. Outside tour as we drop off damaged empty trailer and try to find a new one. We have returned to the place where Kevin tested out of his training and became an official driver for Werner Trucking. More importantly, it's where he first met Kenny Riggs. It was love at first sight!! Now they have 19,000 miles together. Definitely a long-term relationship.
    We arrive with a damaged trailer. What is the procedure? We are hoping to exchange it, but two other Werner drivers also just got here looking for empty trailers. Let's see what happens. Life of a Werner Trucking Solo OTR Rookie and his wife.

    ask kevin kenworth or freightliner

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol! I can tell you. DEFINITELY Kenworth!!! He held out for it when they tried giving him an International. Lol. Someone told us International and Freightliners have a bit of a tighter turning radius. But Kevin thinks the Kenworths have a better ride and are better all around. Plus we got a bigger table inside, which is practical. :-))

      @@TheJoyofTrucking how long do you HAVE to stay out ?

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hectorv.trucking A minimum of two weeks before home time. But, now Kevin arranges his driving so that he usually gets a 34 hour reset once a week. So that’s not at home, but at least it’s downtime with opportunity to relax, do laundry, cook, etc.

      There’s also a national ORT that have to stay out for 5 weeks and home for 5 days which pays more for miles obviously..
      It’s true?
      A recruiter told me that.

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hectorv.trucking We haven’t heard of that one. Interesting. We did five weeks out the first time we went out together. Usually just two or three. We met a couple drivers who stay out for months. Everyone needs to see what works best for them and remember that there’s options. Good luck deciding and let us know what you choose.

    Reading some of these comments leads me to a question as well. One can "hold out" for a KW? That's my dream truck at this point, and a big reason I have Werner so heavily on my mind as a starter company. I'm praying to Pandora for a KW!! As always, travel safely...

      Lol!
      They had told Kevin that he could pick his truck. When he finished his testing they handed him keys and said, “Here’s your truck.” He said, “What is it?” They said, “An International.” He said, “I was told I could pick my truck and I want a Kenworth.” They said they didn’t have any. He said he would wait. They weren’t happy with him and did try a few shenanigans but he held his ground. Later that day they found him one. :-))) It was important to him.
