I remember reading an interview with Gunpei Yokoi years ago where he stated that with Metroid, he really strove for the feeling of isolation and loneliness that mirrored the original Alien movie. This re-instrumentation would have fit with the movie perfectly, which tells you something about the brilliance of Yokoi's vision (and this musical remake).
I think this probably exactly the sort of vibe Metroid's music was supposed to have. I prefer recreations of game music that still capture the same atmosphere. I don't want metal covers and dubstep remixes. Boring as fuck, not every piece of music works in every genre. I just want to hear the music as it was intended to sound, beyond the limitations of the hardware it was written for.

This does a really good job of conveying a sense of absolutely haunting isolation. It's just you and the monsters. There's only one other game I can think of besides Metroid that has a similar, albeit far more terrifying, atmosphere and that is the original Dead Space. I think this is how Metroid was always meant to feel.
Thank you for not breaking into some brain-melting dubstep shit. Not that I hate dubstep, but this is a really creepy, well done cover of the song that's truly original. A few notes of the melody are slightly flat which adds to the creepiness factor. Keep up the good work.

@@RosemaryTheFloran It's in Brinstar in the top right. It's been a while so I could be slightly wrong, but in this green/yellow-ish corrider, you can shoot a tile up in the ceiling and with the High Jump Boots, you can jump up. Should lead to the Varia suit, but correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The proper way to do it is to go look for the high jump boots in Norfair, before you go after it; But there is also a zip you can do where you clip yourself in between the door. It is very hard to do, however, and if you mess up, you get stuck and freeze the game.

This is fucking perfect. Along with the faulty-CRT filtered Metroid gameplay it gives me such a strong feel of nostalgia that I haven't felt in a long time (hell, it actually gives me more nostalgia than actually playing the game). I wish I had VR headset, so I could just put it on loop, and watch it for half an hour now and then, completely isolated from outside world. Great job!
