Tip for CCS drivers using these. PLEASE use the CCS only chargers if available, leave the ones with CCS and Chademo for us Leaf drivers, Last time I was at Rugby I had to queue when there were free CCS only chargers.
Well done Gridserve, contactless is the way to go. I normally head to Instavolt, but will now also use Gridserve especially as I am lucky enough to own an EV6.

A great video as usual, Ginny we are still using power from the grid. We are not all green. Solar panels will be a cover, completely green that will help with the British weather.
I have used Rugby services a lot recently. Very nice and convenient chargers. The only thing I would say is, they actually need to install more of both Tesla and grid serve units there. As they are always busy. Twice, I have seen ques build up for both Tesla and Grid Serve units. That being said, most of the EV drivers there don't hog the chargers and on both occasions the ques moved very quickly.
Would liked to have seen the charging screen in more detail and why you pressed that particular button to stop charging. Overall though, very reassuring.

What's to stop anyone stealing petrol while you fill up? You stay with your car while you fill with petrol. So perhaps you ought to stay with your EV while charging too?
This should be the standard for all motorway services!!! Gloucester services is quite new, and only has 3 50kw chargers. One of which is currently out of order.

Great video but I still can’t use them as a independent wheelchair user a car would block access to the charger . A lot of us wheelchair users are being left out of the EV revaluation it’s assumed we don’t travel far or we always have an able bodied person with us.
I don't imagine we'll see any changes for a while David, but I do believe Gridserve are aware of the need to facilitate disabled use. It might only be a matter of time before legislation forces them to do so anyway...... You could perhaps email Gridserve, just to verify their awareness?
As others have pointed out, just missing some sort of weather protection for when you are starting / ending the charge, which you would think in the UK a necessity.

Bit of a skewed reality being presented here. Yes this location looks good but travelling back from dorset to manchester every place we stopped all the chargers were occupied and by massive battery cars like merc eqcs which would be there for longer. So until sites like the one shown here are common place the charging will be adding hours to journeys whilst waiting for others to charge.
I had to charge at Clacket Lane services on my way home from Gatwick after a holiday. Only three dual chargers and only one chademo for my Leaf. A Polestar was using the CCS side so I couldn't charge until it finished. Until there are more rapid chargers people won't buy EVs. I love mine but long journeys currently are a nightmare.

There is an absolute dearth of chargers in and around Bristol. We need to see this sort of infrastructure moving into streets otherwise adopting ev cars is going to continue to be impacted.
How likely are you to actually get those rates of charge though, even if you have a car that can handle it? On another channel a car reviewer testing the Ionic5 pulled in to Gridserve to demonstrate the cars rapid charging ability. All it was managing was 50kw. Bad as that was, there was only one other car charging. Imagine if there was a full line it would be snails pace charging. Until the electricity grid is capable of delivering power when it's needed the speed of the chargers is irrelevant.
Both the Ioniq 5 and EV6 have a software issue that limits the speed of charging when the core battery temperature drops below 20°C - something that will happen in cold weather. Until Hyundai/Kia do a software fix, you can overcome this by turning the vehicle off when charging i.e you need to turn off the vehicle's air conditioning - this allows the battery to heat up and you'll get faster charging speeds as a result!
I charged my ioniq 5 in Gretna's Green Ionity (claiming to be 4x 350kw chargers). With 2 ID3s and 1 Kona plugged in at the same time. Only managed to get just over 130kw. The guys waiting were already impressed with the speed. We need more fast charging across the whole country.

I agree but I'm not sure you could stop it with your phone. I started one with a phone on a BP Pulse but it wouldn't stop with the phone as apparently it uses a different 'code' each time you use it and the charger recognises it as a different payment card.
@@simonlsibriene8jf8rje9g99 You using Apple Pay? It uses a different code each time and people have reported issues of it not being able to shut a charger down when re-presented. Google Pay uses the same code when re-presented so doesnt have this problem
A good video… but personally I’m extremely disappointed by this new hub that’s close to me. I’ve been driving an EV for the last six years now, I’m also disabled, a wheelchair user. This new hub is yet another missed opportunity to install proper disabled accessible charging infrastructure! When will charge companies stop ignoring the needs of disabled EV users? It’s really not good enough to be continually discriminated against by the charging infrastructure companies :(

Not working this morning at two chargers I tried. One would not accept contactless payments and said on the screen one needed to use the app or a card from gridserve. The other one I connected the charger and the charger said fault on the screen. Could not be rectified over the phone. It's no good expecting to charge an ev car away from home. At Donnington Park a couple of weeks ago the charger only gave 2Kw hour charge. That is 5 miles range for one hours charge. The ev car I bought goes faulty once a week with its software. The ev car story in my experience sadly is absolute rubbish both from a car and charger network point of view. Even my home charger stopped working after five weeks of being installed. The technology in my opinion again sadly is crap! And also very, very unreliable!
Not really. It was Government legislation which meant most, if not all motorway service stations *had* to provide EV charging from 2014. And the upcoming requirement for contactless payment on *all* new EV charger installations was as a result of Government legislation. As is the new requirement for new build developments to incorporate EV charging. Many UK electric car owners tend to charge overnight on cheap rate electricity, so there is no particular need for faster charging there. Everyone has to sleep, so it's the best time to charge.
You're having a giggle right? Running low, bringing a customers return back to the depot. I went to 4 different charger stations, all full up. I am talking about these charge "stations" have on average four charge ports, 4 ports = four cars. I gave up and had to sit around for 45 mins until some **** came out and drove off freeing a space up. I then i had to spend an hour to charge the car. Seriously, 2+ hours of fart arsing around, which could've been done in 10mins at a fuel pump. What a joke!

They were bought out by Gridserve who are updating all the old rubbish units . The Electric Highway is now a joy to use and the large Gridserve Hubs a great place to visit

I have used this location three times now. They all still work even when pretty much all slots are occupied. Unlike a certain Ionity site near Leeds.

Price displays and adjustments will probably be carried out electronically at some point. They probably hadn't got round to it yet.

If the ionic 5 was charging at 50kw. It was almost certainly because it's battery was already pretty full.

And you somehow think that the cost of electricity will rise and rise, and petrol and diesel won't? Er, you do know oil refineries run on electricity, don't you? If electricity rises in cost, then so does petrol and diesel.... Speaking purely personally as an electric car owner, I'd like to see the end of the huge taxpayer funded subsidies, handed to the oil industry each year. Then you'll be paying £20+ for your gallon of petrol. Still laughing now are you? I estimate I get around 25% of my electricity for my car from my solar panels. The cost of sunshine hasn't risen in decades.....

Is this Electric Highway the same as god awful Ecotricity that never worked? Is it just rehashed and this is an advertisement for them?
They were bought out by Gridserve who are updating all the old rubbish units . The Electric Highway is now a joy to use and the large Gridserve Hubs a great place to visit

it'll depend on the company as it does with petrol pricing but it was displayed on the pump at 30p per kw
